The Givenchy Files - The Definitive Archive Of Women, Men And Haute Couture Innovations And Graphic M/M 2012 ISBN 9782918392040 Acqn 21773 Hb 23x35cm 64pp 54ills 36col 51 The Givenchy Files reproduces graphic works inspired by the collections of Italian fashion designer Riccardo Tisci. Presented by M/M (Paris), the art and design partnership of Mathias Augustyniak and Michal Amzalag, the pieces were created by invitation of Tisci for Givenchy shows and advertising campaigns. In his foreword, Olivier Zahm asserts that these artworks, dark, tortured, mysterious, erotic, surrealistic, are a sort of thumbing of the nose at current fashion images. Through a deconstruction and subordination of the omnipresent and impotent creative direction in the world of high fashion, M/M (Paris) succeeds in bringing a fresh, illuminative character to its work.

Francisca Matteoli - Escales Autour Du Monde Editions Xavier Barral 2012 ISBN 9782365110129 Acqn 21834 Hb 17x24cm 512pp 500ills 350col 46.50 Text in French Legendary trunkmaker and lifelong traveller, grandson of Louis Vuitton, Gaston-Louis Vuitton amassed a unique collection of 3,000 hotel labels. Affixed to guests luggage for promotional purposes, the labels evoked far-off destinations and bore witness to the wonderful journeys undertaken by the trunks owners. The graphic design of these labels is typical of an era, while also reflecting a certain lifestyle at a time when travel still constituted an adventure. The iconic representation of the hotel, typography and chromatic range all attest to a style and an era and recount the story of tourism in the first half of the 20th century. Over 800 hotel labels from GastonLouis Vuittons collection, now conserved in the House of Vuitton archives, combined with a rich iconography of period photographs depict the golden age of tourism when travelling was truly an art of living.

They Shoot Typo, Don't They Sint-Lucas Beeldende Kunst 2012 ISBN 9789076101149 Acqn 21962 Pb 21x30cm 272pp 200ills 22.50 Between 2002 and 2012, a number of graphic design students realised posters as a result of the series of films shown at the Sint-Lucas art school in Ghent. Taking on the challenge of breaking through the stereotypical trends found in film poster design, the students were given free reign to explore and experiment, reinterpret and transform, and subvert the marketing logic common to the film industry. This book chronologically presents and reproduces these posters, as most of the graphic artists involved have since graduated and matured into successful professional careers. The posters, therefore, are a visual reflection on their search for graphic identity.
