General Description: The port has 4 passages: Nishi, Chuo, Shinko and Higashi-Kobe Passage. The width of Nishi Passage will be spread 200 m around Aug. 2002. Maritime Traffic: Many passenger vessels and car ferries in regular service call the port. Passenger vessels enter or leave through Nishi passage and car ferries, through a fairway on East Rokko Island. Traffic Control: Vessel traffic is regulated at Chuo passage. Vessels of 15,000 GT (1,000 GT in case oil tankers) or more intending to enter Chuo passage, are to notify by noon on the previous day the Captain of the Port, of the passage name, time of entry and of starting time of operation on departure. Any alteration of the scheduled time should be informed immediately to the Captain of the Port. Traffic control signals can be checked through Kobe Port Radio by VHP; and Osaka Harbor Radio also offers such information. Prohibited Area: The reclamation work of South of the Rokko Island and Kobe airport are now under progress, where two areas have been prohibited to entry. Typhoon: Recommendations concerning typhoons will be issued by the Captain of the Port. Pilotage Compulsory for vessels over 10,000 GT. Harbor pilots (Hanshin Pilot) will board vessels at the following boarding station. (1) Intending to enter Section 1 of KOBE harbor: The area of <190> degree and 2.0miles from KOBE Light House. Also this area is "Pilot taking over Point" from Osaka Bay Pilot to Hanshin Pilot. (2) Intending to enter other than Section 1: The area of SE 1.3 miles from KOBE

Oki No.2 Light Buoy. Also this area is "Pilot taking over Point" from to Osaka Bay Pilot to Hanshin Pilot. Possibilities of Entry or Sailing After sunset: Entering must arrive out-harbor by 20:00 hrs, except full container ships. Sailing is any time. Quarantine: Radio pratique and Sanitary Inspection - Available pratique - Formalities will be carried out at Quarantine Anchorage near Kobe Light House. Anchorage: The anchorage is located outside breakwaters as the under mentioned anchorage chart. Vessels shall drop their anchor in the precise location. Their anchoring position will be designated from the Captain of the Port (Kobe Hoan). After anchoring, vessels shall report anchor position to the Captain of the Port (Kobe Hoan). Restrictions: Vessels are prohibited from entering waters within 30 m from vessels with inflammable dangerous cargo in bulk lying in the port. Vessels may enter the port on certain condition depending on permission by the Captain of the Port (Kobe Hoan). Vessels may leave the port at any time.
