FeatiniaN PACUCOA: FEATI is going fourth phase

By Mary Jane Yonzon Four of FEATI Universitys Academic Programs are Candidates for PACUCOA: Geodetic Engineering, Marine Engineering, Marine Transportation, and Aeronautical Engineering. The Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA) is a private accrediting agency which gives formal recognition to an educational institution by certifying its academic program to have maintained excellent standards in its educational operations. The Accreditation consists of eight phases. FEATI University is done with the third phase and is now preparing for the fourth phase which is the Level 1 of the accreditation process. Benefits starts on this level in which the University will attain the following: (a) full administrative deregulation, (b) financial deregulation in terms of setting of tuition and other fees and charges, (c) authority to revise the curriculum without CHED approval (d) priority in the awards of grants/subsidies or funding assistance from CHED/DEP ED. FEATI University aims to achieve full accreditation of its academic programs. because it promotes excellence and competence among its students. The accreditation will ensure that quality education is offered by the school.

FEATI Universitys ode to Wikang Filipino, Lakas ng Pagka-Pilipino
The month of August was a busy month for the university. There was the opening season of a major sporting event, the InterScholastic Athletic Association (ISAA), which saw the FEATI Seahawks basketball team winning the first game of the season. We held a Recognition Day especially reserved for FEATI scholars, artists, scientists, and board-passers. With a full calendar, more than enough room was made to ensure that Buwan ng Wika was observed, albeit simply; yet, with meaningful and relevant activities. Thus on August 16, 2012, the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE) marked the event with the theme, Wikang Pilipino, Lakas ng PagkaPilipino. Hosted by Mark Joseph E. Mendoza and Marilou C. Bernarte, the one day program graced by the University President, Dr. - Ing Adolfo Jesus R. Gopez, became a celebration of music, play production, and competition. Medals and cash prizes were given away in contests that have been lined up such as: Slogan and Poster Making, Essay Writing, Biglaang Talumpati, and Deklamasyon. FEATInians flocked to the Mass Communications Laboratory Room to watch the play New Yorker in Tondo produced by Mass Communication students. The relevance of celebrating Buwan ng Wika according to Prof. Salve Tan Sacaguing, Arts and Communications Department Head, can be found by quoting our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, Ang taong di magmahal sa sariling wika ay higit pa sa hayop at malansang isda. For me our national language is the soul of our country. It gives us our identity and unites us all. It is the reason why we are called the Filipino People or the Filipino Nation. Thus, we need to celebrate the Buwan ng Wika to give importance to our native tongue as well as to value Manuel Luis Quezon who is our Ama ng Wikang pambansa. In celebrating the Buwan Ng Wika, we give thanks for our national language. We also recognize and salute the Filipino Race. It is but proper that we celebrate it. She articulately quipped. The CASE team, Dr. Milagros P. Navarro, Prof. Salve T. Sacaguing, Prof. Glaiza Rose Blanca, Dr. Dorisday Revilleza, Dr. Emerenciana T. Angeles, Dr. Divine Reyes, Ms. Saxs Gabrielle P. Santos, Ms. Genalyn Rubio, Mr. Vincent Ronquillo, Ms. Beth Chua, and Ms. Nancy Cabuhat thank everyone for their active participation and support of the event. (AMD)Events and Promotions

Excellence: A Key to Success

We now live in a world wherein everything is instant. Everyone is rushing things out. As the world turns on its axis, people and things change swiftly too. Even our environment is not normal for the climate has already changed. On the whole, the world gives us all the problems we can ever think of. Things really go fast and we do not notice what has happened until it is done. If this is our ambiance, can we still achieve success? Can we still have our coveted dreams? As students, we need to meet all the requirements for us to graduate. Requirements that are not easy to accomplish. Blood and sweat must be harnessed to get the evidence. For instance, we have to study hard to pass the exams. Sometimes they are quite easy. Other times they are so difficult that we really have to sweat it out to pass these tests. And then a number of our mentors will let us sleep with a lullaby while several of them will give

dont have to imitate this world wherein everything is done in a rush, because we are already living in it - in this instant world. On the contrary, what we have to do is to observe the happenings in our surroundings patiently and practically. To cherish the moments with people we love. To be positive in everything we do. To learn from the great. For Lives of great men, all remind us that we can make our lives sublime. (H.W. Longfellow). And to have the commonsense to do good things tirelessly so that we harvest and taste sweet success. It is not the lines on our palms that we must follow, but it is our brave decision to excel we must pursue. Finally, we have to conquer ourselves and remain humble as we work in the direction of excellence and in our vision of success.

Air Conditioning Units As we can see our university is improving especially in terms of facilities. We now have an effective flood control system. Likewise, the building construction as well as the ground floor landscaping is in progress. Furthermore, our classrooms at the 3rd floor have air conditioning units. However, there are rooms where in the air-con units are not functional. There are also rooms which air-con units cannot efficiently cool. Thus, we would still open the four wall fans to provide us comfort. Isnt this a waste of money? Again, there are rooms without chairs and tables. These have been reported months ago. Unfortunately, these problems have not been fixed. Meanwhile, every time we attend our classes in the morning, we wonder who will switch on the air-con units because our teachers dont have the remote control. Our professors find it hard to teach in this uncomfortable atmosphere due to the noise of the electric fans inside the room. We actually become out of focus with our studies because of this problem with aircon units. We call on our school officials to please act on this matter as soon as possible. Your good intentions are useless until such time you take an appropriate action. The Newly Added Accessories Every educational institution has its own identity; this is usually seen through the students uniform. It is nice to see a student wearing presentable outfit. Here at FEATI University, we are known for wearing the all blue outfit, blue polo and blouse with scarf. Our uniform is indeed elegant. Recently, the school administration decided to add some accessories and modification to our uniforms. So now, all the girls in school are required to wear high heeled shoes while the boys should wear the garrison belt with universitys logo. An aero student must wear his nameplate within the campus while the marines are required to have six pocket pants embroidered with the FEATI logo placed on the right part at the back of their pants. These added accessories are not for free, we are all obliged to buy these items. In effect, many of us complained because of the sudden implementation of these regulations. We are all surprised that these additional expenses were implemented in the middle of the semester like what happened on the No permit No exam policy last year. We, the students in quandary, show the school officials could be so insensitive to impose these new rules without even meeting us for consultation. We are

DIALOGUE BOX

the ones affected because we have to wear the stuff. Girls are complaining because they have to buy new shoes and suffer walking uncomfortably with them around the campus. Marine students feel so conscious because of the logo placed on their right butt. As a result many Featinians are disgusted with these rules. They then suffer community service for not complying with these newly imposed regulations. We would like to point out that we are not mannequins which can be garbed with whatever apparel or attire that people want it/them to wear. We are humans reacting vehemently to these policies because we are already suffering a lot. We do believe that there is no sense in complaining without even trying. We have obeyed despite our misgivings on the matter. We now have the right to complain. We understand the objective but we do not concur to the manner by which these rules have been imposed on us. Invisible professors Professors are important to the students. Their role is to guide and to teach the students in school. They help students by molding their character and by enhancing their knowledge. They are the ones that students admire and follow. They are the mentors that must encourage and keep students achieve excellence. Its almost close to Preliminary Examinations and Christmas Vacation but until now some of the professors/ instructors of the different departments are not yet seen/meet by their respective students either in classrooms or in the university. We all know that it has almost been a month since the second semester 2012-2013 started. This matter is now being questioned by our studentry. It is reported to us so they get to know where those invisible professors are. Students who go to their respective classrooms would wait patiently for 2 to 3 hours for their class but in the end no instructor or professor would come. This happened not just once. We may understand if there is a notice upon the absence of the professor but since theres none then we are puzzled by it. This pushes students to give poor statements against the university in terms of hiring instructors who cannot meet the students needs and expectations. As Featinians, we need qualified professors. Professors who have time for us students. We need them to help us learn and attain excellence. We go to school early because we are eager to learn. Yet, it is a big disappointment on our part to know that our professors/instructors are nowhere to be found. The Featinian Publication did not fashion this segment to make any form of disparagement nor denunciation. It only seeks integrity, accountability, and equality from all the members of the FEATI Family who form part the ideals of FEATI as a highly-esteemed educational institution. Heads up, FEATINIANS, because things are looking up.

The End of the World

by Penelope Anne Torres Everybody knows Nostradamus as a prophet who is widely known for his accurate predictions. His prophecies were interpreted by some experts and they arrived at this conclusion: The End is going to be this December 21, 2012. Its not a nice thought that the end is just a few sleeps away but there are so many predictions about the end times that were just false alarms. Like last year, Harold Camping predicted that May 21, 2011 would be The first day of judgment and October 21, 2011 would be the end of the world. Whether the world is going to end this time, nobody can tell. Even the Bible says that the end of the world is unpredictable and that man must always be prepared. In addition to keeping watch, one might also want to make a list of how he/she is going to spend his/her last days. Here are some suggestions: First, eat whatever you like and try new food. Its good to know the taste of a peanut butter sandwich with ketchup before you die. Second, overcome your fears. This one is always included in my list of resolutions every new year. However, everyone knows that new years resolutions are always a major failure. Third, dive in the Pasig River, and you might discover why some children enjoy swimming there so much. So youre starting to think that Im weird, but I hope you do understand what I am getting at. Its about trying new and exciting things, right? The list can go infinite and whatever is included on your list, never forget the most important of all, your Salvation. Establish and maintain your relationship with Christ, because when everything is gone, only Him and His faithful servants shall live forever. So enough of parties or partying. Do more soul-searching instead.

what the best technique in a game is? Players, sometimes even coaches themselves, when faced with this dilemma ask: What is the best technique to deliver the winning blow? What moves should be done or executed? Given a certain situation, what is the best technique? Is asking the best technique important at all? The answer depends on the situation, on the team, on the fighter, on the enemy. More importantly, the decision making on which technique to use that can yield the best result should be based on the actual competition In winning a game, the most effective technique is the one that works for the player. The choosing and using of technique is similar to the analogy on how we approach the most basic of things in life in doing something. We use spoon for rice not knife, a toothbrush for our teeth and not a ball pen. A player should have a good offensive game and a good inside game. The technique should be executed well and must be appropriate for the body structure to give comfort to the player in motion. A very young player could discern his skills when training is applied. Eventually, the players style comes out and vis--vis with this is the ability to determine the best technique which is to perfect a style that fits the player in a given situation.
Christmas is not about celebrating a day eating lots of food, getting drunk in parties, having reconciliation with your enemies, wearing costly apparel or helping needy people in so short a time. It is not just about remembering the birth of Jesus Christ on earth. It is something much deeper than these. Jesus Christ signifies PEACE, HOPE and LOVE. When we have Christ in our hearts, we will have PEACE of mind. We will never commit suicide because HOPE exists. We would then learn how to LOVE. We do not have to wait for Christmas Time before we strive again to do good things to our fellowmen. We should have an open

Another grading period another payment, These are the thoughts of a problematic student who has to pay an expensive tuition fee. It is usual for students to opt for an installment basis because they cannot afford to pay instantly the huge tuition and miscellaneous fees. Oftentimes, students choose their schools using these criteria: Tuition fee, availability of the course that they will pursue, quality education, experienced teachers, great facilities, location of the school and its fame. In our university the tuition fee as well as its miscellaneous is a big burden for average families. A student here actually pays 30,000 to 48,000 pesos per semester. Hence, students try to find ways to lessen the burden by joining organizations, and doing extra effort to become a scholar (Deans lister, Presidential, Board of trustees, etc.| Meanwhile, there are also students who just waste their money by not attending their classes regularly. As a result, they fail their quizzes and tests, and they ultimately drop their subjects. These students do not think nor care about the sacrifices and hardships of their parents in sending them to school. They never thought that someone out there wishes to see them achieve their goals in life. by Mary Jane Yonzon Christmas is the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ in Jerusalem. The entire Christendom celebrates it every 25th of December. However, the designated day is not factual but merely became a customary practice. Anyhow, Christmas for me is not the date of his birth in the flesh, but for our Lord Jesus Christ to be born in our hearts.

Blessed Child of Bethlehem, our source of Life and Love
Rev. Fr. Ferdinand S. Tomo, SSS
We Filipinos have the earliest and longest celebration of Christmas compared to other Christian nations. Part of the traditional preparation that we have is the misa aguinaldo or dawn masses usually celebrated starting from 16th of December until the 24th of December. As early as October, malls and commercial establishments decorated their spaces with the festive mood of the Yuletide season already, gift packs from different types of groceries and other food items, personal effects, wine and spirit, etc. are displayed already in their shelves. In the new millennium, in the era of modern technology, computers and internet our disposition and way of celebrating Christmas somewhat has shifted into something superficial and impersonal. Instead of sending your personalize Christmas card for example, you can send it through email or by using the social media. The modern world has influenced us in the way we perceive things and manipulate our whole being especially in our decision making. Now, its Christmas time again, what is there awaiting for us? What do we hope for? Personally when I think of Christmas, I think of the many gifts that we take and receive the gifts that we give in return. There is an exchange of gift, an exchange of goodness and love and the Spirit of the season. But as we mature in our

own understanding of the true Spirit of Christmas, in the grand exchange, we are the recipient and Jesus, the Emmanuel is our greatest gift, a gift for humanity. Following this line of thought, if every Christmas is an active remembering also of the sharing in the divinity of Christ, who humbled himself to share in our own humanity ( Lit. Of the Eucharist, preparation of the altar and gifts) then we need a beautiful and pure vessel to welcome the Messiah in our midst. The preparation must not only a superficial preparation but a preparation which include the conversion of mind and heart of people, with personal conviction but a communal effort and endeavour. Thats the role of the four weeks of Advent, a hopeful and joyful expectation of the divine gratuitousness. The true happiness brought by the season of Christmas would always lead us to the experience of the reality that directs us to the eternity. When we give peace, love and joy it is already the foretaste of the life we hope to share and live with the Divine Trinity. Hope this holy season we may welcome Christ in our home, just like the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, we may draw our inspiration from the Blesssed child in Bethlelem, to become our source of life and love. A Blessed Christmas to everyone!

Born on December 8, 1992 to Rodrigo and Wenee Sarasua, Joshua grew up with firm principles and dreams for his future. He finished his secondary education at the City of Mandaluyong Science High School and is currently a 4th year Aeronautical Engineering student at FEATI. I usually see him with friends at the canteen, at the library, on hallways or in his classroom. He likes to play chess, solve puzzles, and play musical instruments. He is an avid user of the Internet. Joshua is a consistent Don Salvador Scholar. He routinely gets perfect scores on exams, especially in mathematics and other sciences. He is affiliated to the following organizations: Aviation Society for Research and Development (ASRAD) and Society for Aerospace Engineers of the Philippines - Student Chapter (SAEP-SCF). He states that: I believe in God and I believe in science. I dont see the contradiction between them unlike what others do. This may raise some eyebrows, but this is what I adhere to. Excellence for him is something that is beyond the norm. He dreams about the revolution in science. Even with everything going for him, Josh remains humble but grateful. He believes that all the things in his life are just challenges to be solved and conquered. Featinians, he is Joshua Sarasua, the epitome of excellence.

CHOCOFull
by: Ms. Raquel Rufon Its the time of year when good friends are dearand chocolate is one of the most popular holiday gifts! Go ahead, indulge. It may not be addictive and wou ld not make a giver guilty. Even though chocolate is usually eaten for pleasure, it has potentially many health effects. Dark chocolate may positively affect the circulatory system. According to research, limited amounts of dark chocolate appear to help prevent heart disease. A report indicated that melting chocolate in ones mouth produced an increase in brain activity and heart rate that was more intense than that associated with passionate kissing, and also lasted four times as long after the activity had ended. Studies have shown dark chocolate as part of a low-fat diet can lower cholesterol levels in adults. Because its rich in fiber, dark chocolate can actually help keep you full, so youll eat less, and may even reduce cravings for sweet, salty and fatty foods. (http://en.wikipedia.org) A small Italian study found out that regularly eating chocolate increases insulin sensitivity, thereby reducing risk for diabetes. A type of antioxidants called flavonoids found in chocolates offer some protection from UV (ultraviolet) damage, therefore, its good for your skin. Another ingredient in chocolate called theobromine seems to reduce activity of the vagus nerve, the part of the brain that triggers cough. Cocoa has anti-clotting and blood-thinning properties, thereby improving blood flow and help lower blood pressure, increase blood flow to the retina giving vision a boost, smooth blood flow to the brain making people more awake and alert and may suppress symptoms of migraines. (http://www.huffingtonpost.com) Milk chocolate health benefits include better brain reaction and impulse control. Studies also showed that the nutrients in the cocoa and milk content of milk chocolate aid in glucose release, increase blood flow and augment cognitive performance. In addition, milk chocolate also contains high levels of potassium and magnesium that provide several vitamins such as B1, B2, D and E. Meanwhile, the health benefits of eating white chocolate or the pretend chocolate (called chocolate only because of its cocoa butter content) may not be similar to those from dark or milk chocolates but there are other positive effects. These are primarily the vitamins

lihiyon. Kaya hindi sapat ang pagiging relihiyoso lamang. Sabi nga sa kanta ni Bruno Mars (Na labis kong sinasangayunan) na It will rain; Theres no religion that can save me.

Her father would certainly beat her; besides, it was almost as cold at home as here, for they had only the roof to cover them. Her little hands were almost frozen with the cold. Ah! Perhaps a burning match might be some good, if she could draw it from the bundle and strike it against the wall, just to warm her fingers. She drew one out- scratch! how it sputtered as it burnt. It gave a warm, bright light, like a little candle, as she held her hand over it. It was really a wonderful light. It burst into a flame, and where its light fell upon the wall it became as transparent as a veil, and she could see into the room. The table was covered with a snowy white table cloth on which stood a splendid dinner service and a steaming roast goose stuffed with apples and dried plums. And what was still more wonderful, the goose jumped down from the dish and waddled across the floor, with a knife and fork in its to the little girl. Then the match went out, and there remained nothing but the thick, damp, cold wall before her.

Grandmother, cried the little one, O take me with you; I know you will go away when the match burns out; you will vanish like the warm stove, the roast goose, and the large glorious Christmas-tree. And she made haste to light the whole bundle of matches, for she wished to keep her grandmother there. And the matches glowed with a light that was brighter than the noon-day. And her grandmother had never appeared so large or so beautiful. Priest Receives Birthday Gifts! It was Fr. Jess birthday and was receiving gifts from the parishioners. The florists daughter gave her a box, she put it over her head and shook it. Are they flowers? asked the priest. The surprised girl replied, How did you know, Father? The priest knew the profession of the kids parents, so he could guess easily. Then another boy came with a box, Father Jess shook it and said, Is it a pair of shoes? The student asked, Howd you know! The priest knew because the kids family had a shoe store. Then Johnny, the son of a liquor store owner, came forward and the priest saw the box. It was leaking. ah, I know just what it is, the priest mused. He put his finger on the wet part and sucked the liquid. Is it wine? he said. Johnny shook his head, No. Then he scraped the leaking box again with his finger, tasted it,

The FEATI SEAHAWKS mens volleyball team struck down St. Dominic on their home court with a 3 set marathon 25-15, 25-17, 25-15 victory to seal their 6 win, 2 loss record last August. Emerson Supan started the Seahawks rally with a cut shot spike to dominate the first inning. Going into the 2nd and 3rd inning with the momentum, the Seahawks continued to roll all throughout the game and force St. Dominic to give up the remaining sets. At the conclusion of the tourney, the FEATI mens volleyball team finished 3rd while PWU placed 2nd and PMMS took home the 1st place trophy in the said event. Meanwhile, the Seahawk Womens Volleyball placed 1st runner up after losing against the Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP), and finishing with 8 wins and 2 losses. Even if we didnt make it to the finals, placing 3rd, we are glad we reached this far. Doing our best is all that matters Emerson Supan said.
