General installation information Delta system IQ8 detector range

General Information:
You are now holding a handy installers booklet from Honeywell life safety AS. This booklet will provide helpful information in order to assist you during most of Eltek Fire & Safety's fire alarm. You will also find useful hints regarding cable routing and selection. Read the booklet before commencing the installation. It will not only simplify your work, but also reduce your daily workload; "Efficient methods will improve your money savings". You can find more information by downloading other user documentation from TechZone, at www.eltek-fs.no .

Installation Hints, fire Alarm

For most installation sites you can employ generally available, off-the-shelf fire alarm cables, even without earth wire (screen). But we recommend you to use twisted pair detector loop cables, such as 2 PFLP 2x1mm , in areas where equipment or cables may generate magnetic fields or electric noise. MPRXCX 2x1.5, El.no:10 423 20 can also be used. Also, to avoid loop communication interference, keep detector loop cable-runs at least 0.15m from 3-phase power cables and from areas containing fluorescent lights, transformers, heavy power machinery, etc. The detector loop cable-runs are to be led over such areas, and not around walls, etc. The earth wire, if any, of detector loop cables (screen) is to be interconnected through the loop and terminated in just one shared earth point in the control panel or module, thus improving the installation's resistance against electric noise.

Sounder Circuits:
For sounder circuits we recommend the use of 2x1mm for cable-runs up to 100m, and a section of 2 2 2x1.5mm for max. 200m cable-runs. For longer cable-runs than 200m use a 2x2.5mm cable section, to avoid significant voltage drops. Examples of cable that can be used: BFOU 2x1.5 El.no: 10 438 60/ BFOU 2x2.5 EL no: 10 411 21. Notice that an end-of-line resistor is to be connected to the last alarm bell of every sounder circuit, see connection drawing on page 6.
2

Control Outputs:
Control panels and modules are equipped with voltage-free control output terminals rated max. 30V, 1A. Always use a contactor relay for controlling loads requiring higher voltage or current. You must always connect a diode e.g. 1A, 400V across all inductive loads (door magnets, flashlights, sirens, relays, etc.) which are controlled from fire alarm panels or modules. Ten diodes (Art. No. 243210) are delivered with each Delta DA module.

Communication
Communication cable for eBus. Honeywell life safety as recommend a flat bus topology without any branches. Fire retardant cable 2x1,3mm should be used. When using a flat bus topology maximum length is 2,7 km. Maximum distance between each unit when using a flat topology is 500m When using a star topology the total length is maximum 500m.

Addressing of IQ8 detectors, manual call points and transponders:

All adressing of these units are done by using a hand held detector programmer, art. nr. 251454. The detector is connected to the detector programmer and the address given. The manual call point and the transponders have to be connected by cable to UL- and UL+.

Installers booklet Marine, art. no. 011

Installation guidelines
Manual call points shall be installed throughout the accommodation spaces. One manual call point shall be located near each exit. No parts of the corridor shall be more than 20m from a manual call point. Smoke detectors are to be installed in all stairways, corridors and escape routes within accommodation. In closed stairways, detectors can be installed in the top deck and then at every second deck. Detectors shall be positioned for optimum performance. Detectors should be positioned with a minimum distance from the bulkhead of 0,5m. The maximum spacing of detectors shall be in accordance with the table below: Type of Maximum floor area per Maximum distance Maximum distance detector detector apart between centres away from bulkheads Heat 37m2 9m 4,5m Smoke 74m2 11m 5,5m Electrical wirings shall be arranged so as to avoid galleys, machinery spaces of category A, and other enclosed spaces of high fire risk where this is possible. The general emergency alarm system shall be arranged either as one (or more) closed loop(s), or with fuses/breakers provided at each deck such that failure/short circuit in any deck does not affect other decks or the central unit. The sound level of alarm signals in the sleeping area and in the shower shall not be lower than 75dB Detectors in machine room category A are not allowed on the same loop as detectors in the accommodation. Emergency generator with effect over 375kW is categorized as machine room A. The detector loop shall only go in and out of the machine room once.

IQ8Quad calculation of loop capacity

Calculation of how many IQ8 Quad and how many IQ8 Alarm devices that can be connected on one loop, is done by the use of load factor. Each device has its own load factor. The maximum total load factor for a loop is determined by the length of the loop and the type of cable. In general, the shorter cable, the better. Please note that both turn and return must be measured. Table 1 lists the load factor of each device. Devices that have no alarm outputs (acoustical or optical) do not have a load factor. The total load factor of the connected devices is calculated by added the different load factors. The total load factor should never be higher than 120. The total length of the cable should never be more than the length in Table2.

Standard terminal block connections for DELTA OP, Main DELTA OP: According to European standard EN54 Part 4, the two +24V monitored power supply inputs CN1-3,4 og 5,6 must be fed from two separate circuits, so that a short circuit in one of the circuits does not affect the other. Other networked DELTA OP need only one power supply circuit. Jumpers must be connected to terminals CN1-3,5 and 6,4 for avoiding fault alarms. Connection of HDFA is not necessarily on these panels.

Alternative 1: Detector connected with isolator
For optimal safety, isolators can be used in each detector. For connection of isolators in each detector it is important to know which cable comes is in and which is out (direction of the loop). It is also very important to have control of what is positive(+) and what is negative(-).

Alternative 2: Detector connected without isolator

Sometimes it can be better to connect without isolators in some detectors. Commissioning of the system goes easier if you do not have isolators in each detector. When connecting without isolator you do not need to know which cable is in and which is out (direction of the loop). You still need to know which cable is positive (+) and which is negative (-).

Mounting of IQ8 detectors.

Before commissioning can begin, it is important to control that the loops are intact and all cables connected correctly. This can sometimes be difficult when the detectors are mounted in the base, due to the isolators. The isolators are closed by a message from the fire panel and the loop has to be intact for this to work. The isolator is located between connector 4 and 5. When no detector is mounted, a short circuit is positioned between connector 4 and 5. It is therefore recommended to mount the detectors after the loop has been measured. It is also recommended to mount the manual call points at the same time as the detectors. The cables in the manual call point must then be connected together for measuring the loop, alternatively connected without isolator.
