Scott, Inspector General Office of the Inspector General One North University Drive, Suite 111 Plantation, FL 33324 Broward State Attorney Office 201 Southeast 6th Street Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33301 Attention: Timothy Donnelly, Assistant State Attorney Public Corruption Unit RE: City Manager Jonathan Allen, City of Lauderdale Lakes, FL Dear Sirs: From a recent Palm Beach Post article,[1]
Mayor Shirley Mae Walker-Turner, Vice Mayor Linda Johnson and Commissioner John Wilson were charged with violating the states Sunshine Law. Prosecutors claim they in August secretly agreed to pay Alston $25,000 for 498 hours of unused vacation time an improper payment that was more than twice what he would have received had he left the city. Further, they said, it wasnt approved at a public meeting until three months after the check was cut.

And in a similar Sun-Sentinel piece, [2]

Each agreed to authorize the payment, according to the affidavits, and at a Nov. 20 meeting of the City Commission, the elected officials approved the payout of the vacation time. It would be for 498 hours, even though according to Alston's contract and the city handbook, he would only have been eligible for 200 hours.

Turning your attention to Lauderdale Lakes, I offer two attachments for your consideration. 1. Resolution 05-134, page 3, Executive Leave, payable only to department heads, not City Manager Jonathan Allen. 2. Allens payout of Executive Leave an unauthorized cash bonus of $7,700 he gave to himself. He did whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted. Our latest discovery, as you know, finds Allen receiving a 4% restoration, for the 10% reduction taken last year. Only problem is Allen did not take the original pay cut. Simply said, he got a bonus he wasnt entitled to. That is grand theft.

We opine Allen was helped in this illegal endeavor by Finance Director Marie Elianor, Human Resources drone DAndrea Gibbons, six Commissioners, Mayor Barrington Russell, City Attorney Jim Brady, and numerous others. Sirs, if you think the corruption in South Bay is widespread, then youll have to agree when I say, That shit doesnt compare to whats going on in Lauderdale Lakes. And even worse, its quite obvious that city will never be able to get out of their own way. Someones gonna have to put a boot up their collective asses. In the end, Allens theft of $7,700 is just tip of the iceberg. I opine if you start checking into the contracts he has been involved with (sports leagues, etc.), youll find hes rotten to the core. And when that happens, well be sure to say, See, we told you so. Happy hunting;
