Traces of Grace
Dear Fellow Parishioners; Grace comes packaged in many different forms, sometimes in ceremony and fanfare, sometimes in the quiet hours of the morning. This past week on Monday, the church of Orange gathered in the Bren Center at UC Irvine and welcomed our new bishop, Bishop Kevin Vann, as our fourth bishop of Orange. It was quite the event! Lots of visiting bishops and priests, dignitaries of all sorts, as well as a packed house of parishioners from all over the Diocese prayed for our retiring bishop, Bishop Tod Brown and affirmed the installation of our new bishop, Kevin Vann. It was a grace filled liturgy with prayers in several languages, expressing the Churchs practice of how leadership is acknowledged, affirmed and passed on to the next generation. A few days later, our communities of St. Edward and San Felipe came together to celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patroness of the Americas. Praise songs began at 5am on Wednesday at the packed San Felipe chapel in the brisk morning hour. Songs led into Mass at 6am and then the image of the Virgin travelled to St. Edwards to be enshrined for the day. Mass with the school children welcomed her and then in the evening another time of celebration and liturgy welcomed the protecting mother of Guadalupe. It was a great day of engagement on so many levels. Praise and worship in different languages, gathering afterwards for chocolate and sweet breads, and acknowledging our common faith together expressed the grace for me of the largeness of our church. I am so thankful for all those who prepared this day together. It is events like these that call us to a wider understanding of who we are as church. We belong to each other in faith, but we are also part of a much larger and diverse church. This is part of why it is important to understand and support the Diocesan Capital Campaign. As we prepare for the first Diocesan wide Capital Campaign, I want you to be aware of some of the elements of the Campaign. Our diocesan goal is 100,000,000 through pledges over 4 years. Wow! Isnt that a lot of money? Yes, it is, but it is quite possible with good effort for our Diocese to raise this amount. What will the contributions be used for? They will be significantly used to renovate the facilities at our new Christ Cathedral Campus, being that the church needs to be renovated for Catholic worship as well as needed repairs to the other buildings on the campus. Some of the monies will go to pay down the loan debt from the purchase, some will go to establish an endowment to assist Catholic schools in our diocese and some will go to help cover the costs of retired priests. Marywood Center is also on the market to be sold and soon the Diocesan staff will be moving to the Christ Cathedral site. Those monies also will be used to pay down the debt. Next week I want to share with you our commitment in this upcoming Campaign. In the meantime, you may wish to go to www.ForChristForever.org and take a tour of the incredible campus and the possibilities that we might have as a Diocese with this new center of our faith.
Together in Christ;

Christ Caring for People through People. CONFIDENTIAL! Thats what Stephen Ministry is. Everything a person tells his or her Stephen Minister is kept in strict confidence. People are often afraid that if they tell someone what is troubling them, word will get around and others will look down on them. But a Stephen Minister keeps everything a care receiver shares confidential, and through the sharing God works miracles of healing and peace. To learn more about the Stephens Ministry at St. Edwards, call 949-496-1307 x 2503 or email us at stephenministry@stedward.com.

THE GIVING TREE
We are once again approaching the glorious celebration of Christmas. We are happy to announce our twentieth annual Giving Tree which is in the Church. The envelopes on the Tree to the left as you enter church are for needy families with children, the number on the envelope indicates the number in the family. Gift cards such as Visa, Wal-Mart, Target or department stores are always much appreciated. More helpful information is inside the envelope. Please drop your envelopes off in the Church Office Donation box. The tree on the right with the lovely decorated envelopes is for donations of cash or check which will be used to provide food and necessities to needy families throughout the entire year. You may also drop these envelopes off in the Church office donation box. There will also be a Toy Bin in the Church throughout the Advent Season. All toys should be new or hand crafted and left unwrapped. The Giving Tree can be one way this Christmas for you and your family to glorify the Lord and if helping a family this year will enrich your Christmas, this is the perfect opportunity. May God Bless and Keep you, Christian Service and St. Vincent de Paul
