Chief Designer, Advanced Technologies & Projects, Motorola Mobility (Silicon Valley | 7/2012 - present) Working with Regina Dugan (former Director of DARPA) and a small, advanced team of multi-disciplinary experts across Google and Motorola Mobility on future innovation. Global Head of Design Research, Motorola (Silicon Valley | 11/2010 - 7/2012) Led Motorolas Consumer Experience Design Research group globally, advising the CEO and senior leadership on how to deeply connect with consumers across hardware, software and services. Developed a deep competency in co-creation, launched three Living Labs across our international studios, bringing everyday people into our design process on a weekly basis. Informed and shaped the design of recently-launched RAZR and MotoACTV products, as well as several breakthrough projects in the pipeline. UX Director, Microsoft (Redmond & Beijing | 8/2003 - 11/2010) Creative Director, Beijing Advanced Technology Center - managed a multi-disciplinary studio (design, research, prototyping, and strategy) across both global and China-focused innovation projects for Microsoft in Beijing. Interaction Design Manager, Surface - led the twelve-person design team who created the end-to-end interaction vision, design language, platform and example applications for Microsoft Surface. UX Director, Microsoft Research Asia - took on a special five-month assignment as acting UX Director for the Beijing Lab, building a UX team and managing user research and design for incubation projects. Lead Designer, Hardware Innovation Group - responsible for interaction design on the Dell Studio Hybid Vista launch Dream PC; and led multiple hardware, software and service experiences targeted at global emerging markets. User Experience/Interaction Architect, MSN - directed design strategy and prototyping efforts that shaped the Windows Live vision, initiated an end-to-end MSN interaction redesign, and directed MSN Mobile design. Director of Experience Design, texture|media (Denver | 3/2002 - 8/2003) Transformed a small web design shop into an award-winning, experience design boutique (speaker at both AIGA/CHI Forum and DUX). Responsible for all design and research, working with clients such as GE, Marmot, and MapQuest. UX Manager, Studio Archetype/Sapient (Manhattan & Denver | 5/1999 - 2/2002) Directed design and research teams on engagements for clients such as United Airlines, Verizon, AT&T and Janus; seeded and mentored the UX group in the Denver office. Became a subject matter expert on experience modeling techniques. Director of Interactive Media, Hawley/Sandler (Boston | 3/1998 - 4/1999) Built a successful interactive services capability from the ground up to serve crossover needs for the agency's traditional advertising clients. Responsibilities included business development, hiring/mentoring, and account/team management.
