Dixie Highway #300 Boca Raton, FL 33432 RE: Lauderdale Lakes Employee Gary Rogers Dear Sirs: This past week, the Sun-Sentinel reported Mayor Shirley Mae Walker-Turner, Vice Mayor Linda F. Johnson and City Commissioner John E. Wilson face charges they violated Sunshine Laws by holding private meetings with the city manager to discuss an illegal payout of unused vacation time, and City Manager Corey L. Alston will be charged with grand theft for orchestrating the payment. The City of Lauderdale Lakes authorized by Resolution (05-134) the payment of 40 hours per year of Executive Leave to Department Heads.

A Resolution providing for the repeal of Resolution No. 99-204; providing for specific employment benefits for Department Heads; providing for directions

to the City Manager; providing for the adoption of representations; providing an effective date. II. EXECUTIVE LEAVE: Department Head staff shall enjoy one week (5 days) paid leave, also known as "executive leave," each year as recognition for devoted hours spent working for the City during special events, Commission meetings, special projects requiring extraordinary hours, and other business related measures in which said employees are required to attend.
I find it puzzling Gary Rogers (CRA staff employee), though not a department head nor director, receives 120 hours of executive leave. And worse, in apparent violation of City Charter, it seems he cashes it in at will.

Executive leave is subject to pay out at the end of the fiscal year if leave rights have not been utilized at any time during the year in which the leave was earned. At no time shall executive leave carry over into the next fiscal year. Upon separation of employment, if said leave has not been utilized or paid out, the executive employee shall enjoy the benefits of pay out.
Ive thoroughly reviewed the Lauderdale Lakes Charter and the CRA is not defined as a department. If this sounds all too familiar, it should, as his boss, Jon Allen, pulls the same stunt. And well, as pointed out, Alston just got arrested for the same thing. Given this, I respectfully request the Broward County State Attorneys Office and the Broward Office of Inspector General thoroughly investigates this allegation and to the extent permitted by State or local law or regulations, any and all penalties, sanctions, or other disciplinary actions for violations of such standards be applied forthwith. Happy hunting;
