Program Announcement 2009

The Brackett Foundation announces a program of scholarship awards for full time
college students and study grant awards for students at the high school level,
vocational students, or for part-time adult students for study in Thailand or nearby
countries. The Foundation does not support graduate study. Applications may be
obtained at http://brackett.colgate.edu/forms/App09.pdf, or by request from Tom
Brackett at tomb@twcny.rr.com. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.

Study grant awards, usually in the range of Bt 5,000 to Bt 15,000, are limited to
direct educational costs, e.g. tuition, uniforms, books, and travel expenses.
Scholarship awards, Bt 20,000 and above, can cover the items above as well as room
and board. Note these awards generally do not cover the full costs of attending
school and most students will need some support from family or other sources.

In order to apply for degree programs at accredited universities, students must have
a clear plan for their educational program and know the costs of that program. They
must have the credentials and language skills and meet the pre-requisites for their
intended program of study. Selection is made on the basis of academic ability,
demonstrated commitment of the candidate to help his or her people, and a personal
interview. Applications are reviewed and a selected group of applicants will be
contacted for an interview. Interviews will be held in January in Bangkok,
Kanchanaburi and Sangklaburi, in February in Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son, and Mae
Sot, and Phitsanulok and again in Bangkok in March. Candidates will be informed in
early April of their awards.

Candidates without a good command of English who plan to study in Thai should
have their application translated into English. They should also bring an interpreter
to their interview. The application must be completed in English.

Those who wish to be interviewed in Kanchanaburi, Sangklaburi or Bangkok should

submit their applications to the address on the left by January 19, 2008. Other
applications should be submitted to the address on the right by February 1, 2008.
