The Oklahoma County Sheriff's office is asking for the public's help in finding the person or persons who threw a German shepherd dog off a bridge onto an interstate highway in Oklahoma City, severely injuring him. The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible. The HSUS recently doubled its standard cruelty reward from $2,500 to $5,000 thanks to a generous donation from an HSUS board member. Animal cruelty is a felony in Oklahoma. Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel said, "Dogs are `man's best friend' and are de-

pendent upon humans for food, shelter and care. In return they provide unquestioned companionship and love. For someone to throw Rookie off of a bridge is unconscionable and the sign of an inherently evil person. We are doing everything possible to find the person responsible so that person can answer in a court of law. Whetsel continued, "Now Barry and Becky Switzer have added $1,000 to that reward. Also Max Fairchild and the AutoMax Dealership are committing at least $1,5oo to bring the reward total to at least $7,500. I would encourage anyone with any information on the person responsible to contact the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office at 405-8692501." homa Highway Patrol regarding an eyewitness report that a German shepherd was thrown from a bridge on S.E. 59 St. into traffic on I-4o. The female 911 caller who saw the crime has not been identified. The dog, identified through a tag on his collar as Rookie, was in critical condition with several injuries, including an open fracture on his rear left leg. He was suffering from internal bleeding. OHP Trooper Jennifer Fisher was the first responder to the scene. "He was sitting up on the shoulder, but his leg was broken," said Fisher. "He got up and came right towards me." An OCSO Animal Welfare deputy transported Rookie to the Deer Creek Animal Hospital in Harrah. After seeing the extent of his injuries, he was transferred to the Oklahoma State University School of Veterinary Medicine. On Tuesday, Dec. II, a team from the OSU Veterinary Clinic, including Dr. Mark Rachot, performed surgery on Rookie. The HSUS is covering the cost of Rookie's veterinary expenses. "Rookie's injuries were more severe than we'd originally expected but he did very well through surgery and should be fine down the road," said Rachot. Fisher added, "They put plates and metal pins in his left leg where the bone is shattered. He has a permanent rod in his leg." Trooper Fisher has adopted 4-year-old Rookie. She and her husband are going to fund the rehab, physical therapy and medicine that Rookie will now need. "We have two other dogs and a cat at the house right now,"

Verizon Wireless celebrated the second anniversary of the initial nationwide launch of its 4G LTE network on December 5, 2010. Oklahoma City was among the first 38 cities nationwide where Verizon's 4G LTE network was unveiled on that date. Since then, the company has aggressively expanded its 4G LTE network across Oklahoma in major metropolitan areas as well as rural areas and currently offers coverage to more than 82% of the state's population. "Oklahomans quickly realized the benefits in speed and connectivity our 4G LTE network offers and we will complete the rollout of our 4G LTE network across the Sooner State, and the nation, in 2013," said Dean Taylor, president of the South Central Region of Verizon Wireless. "We want our customers from big cities to rural America to have that 4G LTE advantage, both in their personal lives and in business." Since launching its 4G LTE network two years ago, four out of five Americans are now covered with the blazingly fast speed and reliability of the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Network. In Oklahoma, Verizon covers more than 202 communities across the state including

Bartlesville, Altus, Ardmore, Durant, Chickasha, Lawton, Duncan, Ponca City, Stillwater, Cushing and many more. Coverage is also continuous along the 1-44 corridor from Randlett on the Texas state line, to Lawton and all the way to Claremore, north of Tulsa. 4G LTE Coverage and Speed In real-world, fully loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink. When customers travel outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, 4G LTE devices automatically connect to Verizon Wireless' 3G network, enabling customers to stay connected from coast to coast. Verizon's 3G network, the most reliable high-speed data network in the country, allows customers in 3G coverage areas who purchase 4G LTE devices today to take advantage of 4G LTE speeds when the faster network becomes available in their area or when they travel to areas already covered by 4G LTE. 4G LTE Devices Verizon Wireless provides its customers with the largest portfolio of 4G LTE compatible smartphones and tablets such as the new iPad and iPhone 5, Window's Nokia Lumia 822, Samsung Galaxy Tablet, Droid DNA and Samsung Galaxy Note, as well as 4G LTE mobile hot spots and USB modems. Prayers for Connecticut families

Staff Report

Across Oklahoma City last weekend, congregations prayed for the families of those killed in last week's mass murder at a school in Newton, Connecticut. Then, on Monday evening, St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral held a special evening prayer and Holy Eucharist service at the historic congregation, 127 N.W. 7 Street. Dean Justin Alan Lindstrom, who preached at Monday's service, in an email to members and supporters

of the church, said the events were "difficult to fathom or even try to understand." Monday's service was "a time for all to gather and pray

for those who have lost their lives and for those whose lives are forever changed." Bishop Ed Koniezny presided at the service.

A thorough inspection company will probably put in over 20 times the number of hours inspecting a property than the buyer's representative's initial assessments. When you are spending hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars, a professional set of eyes with objective cost estimates is extremely valuable. I inspect buildings for a living and have a degree in construction. Would I pay for an expensive inspection if I were purchasing a commercial building? Every

time. A thorough inspection should be an integral part of the decision-making process. Jack L. Werner, Ph.D., owns A to Z Inspections and teaches building inspections. Large commercial properties are looked over closely by the buyer's representatives. These people know a great deal about property values, rents, return on investment, good management, accounting, and maximizing return. In contrast, a good inspector's specialty is assessing problems and the estimated costs of repair. Over the past year, we have inspected banks, hotels, office building, warehouses, strip shopping centers, and apartment complexes. In every case, we found significant items that needed re-
