TODAY Welcome! This morning, Pastor Steve continues our advent sermon series called Come Thou Long Expected Jesus. 5:30 PM Evening Service THIS WEEK Wednesday No Midweek Ministries ANNOUNCEMENTS Kent County Jail Ministry On Sunday, December 30th, Cedar Church will host our 5th Sunday chapel service at the Kent County Jail from 12:45 PM - 2:15 PM. Please keep this ministry in your prayers. Sledding Party - Break out your snowsuits and your sleds for some fun in thesnow! Come join your friends at Cedar on January 5 for a sledding party at Charlie's Dump. The fun starts around 1pm and afterwards we will warm up with some hot drinks and a fire in Mrs. Kramer's backyard (Deb Grysen's mom). This is a great opportunity for the young and the youngat-heart to enjoy our winter weather! Contact Cathy Postmus with any questions. 2013 Congregational Meeting On Sunday, January 13th, at 1 PM, Cedar will hold its annual congregational meeting after a fellowship luncheon. The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss and vote upon the proposed 2013 church budget and elect church officers. The proposed church budget was sent out last Sunday. Church Directories A big thank you to Deb Grysen and Angie Dykema for their excellent work on our picture directories!! The Cedar Church directories are published and have been distributed. If you have not received yours yet you will find it in your mailbox in the hallway.

ANNOUNCEMENTS Church Officer Elections & Nominations It is again time to elect church officers for the new year and nominate prospective officers for 2014. Two men will stand for election at the January congregational meeting: Bill Grysen (elder), and Paul Sprik (deacon). Elder David VanDyke has completed 2 terms and is required to take a well-deserved one year sabbatical. Thank you, Dave, for your faithful years of loyal service! Elder Bill Grysen has completed a one year sabbatical, and has been certified by session to stand for re-election to the office of elder. Deacon Tim DeWent has requested a break from service as a deacon. Thank you, Tim, for your hard work! Paul Sprik has successfully completed officer training class and has been certified to stand for election. Each candidate who receives a majority vote of confidence at our Congregational Meeting will be installed shortly after the election to serve a 3 year term. Session will also receive nominations in January for prospective candidates to the office of Elder or Deacon to serve in 2014. Those who are communicant members in good standing may make nominations. Male communicant members in good standing are eligible to be nominated as follows:
1. Please make your nomination in writing and include your signature and the date. Hand the nomination to a member of session. These names will be kept confidential. 2. Each man who has been nominated will be asked to join the Officers' Training Course that will be offered in 2013. A small amount of reading and homework will be assigned. During the course of this year, the men will be asked to prayerfully examine themselves to discern whether they believe God is calling them to this ministry at this time. 3. After the course has been completed, nominees for the office of Elder and Deacon who have faithfully attended the classes will be examined by the Session. Then, the names of those who have been certified by the Session will be announced to the congregation for its prayerful consideration. Only at this point will we have official candidates. 4. Finally, the congregation will elect any Elders and Deacon candidates at the 2014 Congregational Meeting.

ANNOUNCEMENTS Reception of New Members Cedar session is pleased to announce we have received the Matt & Mindy Weiss family, and Marc & Ruthie Scaturro by letter of transfer from Redeemer OPC in Ada. We will also receive Terry & Tammy Holstege and family by reaffirmation of faith. Soli Deo Gloria! Winter Youth Retreat Mark your calendar! The 2013 OPC Winter Youth Retreat all-nighter will be held at the downtown YMCA in Grand Rapids on January 25-26 for 7th-12th grade students and interested parents. The speaker this year is Mika Edmonson from Harvest OPC. The YMCA facility includes many amenities, including two swimming pools, a water slide, two climbing walls, two full basketball courts, squash and racquetball courts and other exercise equipment. The cost of the retreat will be $30. The Presbytery Youth Committee will be sending out brochures soon. Hope to see you there! New Usher Ministry Please support our new ushers as they assist our gospel ministry each Sunday - guiding us into worship, distributing hymnals, filling in seating gaps, providing facility directions, and creating a warm & inviting atmosphere for worship. Cry Room For the benefit of those who would like to hear the service while caring for a little one, we have a cry room equipped with speakers located in the Teachers Lounge across the hall from the gym. Please feel free to use this as needed. Interested in Church Membership at Cedar? On Wednesday evening, January 2nd, Pastor Steve will hold a membership seminar from 7 9 PM at HCS for anyone interested in church membership. COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS You can make a difference! At least 30 volunteers are needed to mentor and guide individuals who are learning how to budget. With just a once a week commitment, you could help make a great difference in a familys financial life. If you are someone who enjoys working with numbers and people this is a fulfilling and enjoyable opportunity. Training and support always provided. Simply Give Program - Support the Love INC Food Pantry by making a $10 donation at the Jenison Meijer store Nov 4 - Jan 5 and Meijer will match your donation. Simply Give gifts cards are available at the Jenison Meijer checkout, Love INC, or Loves Treasures Knitters - Thank you so much for all your wonderful work. We were able to bless many adults and children with hats, mittens, and scarves this winter. We just received a special request for 300 mens winter hats by December 19. If you are able to help us fill this need please drop off your items at Love INC, 3300 Van Buren, Hudsonville, Attn: Karla. Loves Holiday Hours - Love INC will be closed Monday, December 24 and Tuesday, December 25 for Christmas. We will, however, be open on Monday, December 31. We will be open to accept your year-end product donations Wednesday, December 26 through Saturday, December 29 as well as Monday, December 31. Loves Treasures Resale Shoppe - More volunteers are needed in the Resale Shoppe prep area on Monday mornings and more cashiers are needed for Loves Treasures Resale Shoppe on Friday mornings and afternoons. COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS Ongoing Ministry for Depression - The Depression Support Group meets on the third Monday of each month from 7-8 PM in the educational wing at Fairway Christian Reformed Church, 1165 44th Street, Jenison. This group is open to anyone in our community who struggles with depression or has a loved one who is depressed. You are invited to attend this safe and confidential group experience. No registration is necessary. The group will meet on Monday, December 17. For more information contact the church office at 662-0368. Divorce Care - Fair Haven Ministries in Hudsonville will be offering DivorceCare (for adults), The Big D (for teens), and DC4K (DivorceCare for Kids ages 5-12). Classes start January 7, 2013. Find hope. Connect with others who understand what you're going through, and help put the pieces of your life back together. Go to www.fhmin.org/hopeharbor for more information. GriefShare - Fair Haven Ministries in Hudsonville will be offering GriefShare - a support group for people grieving the death of someone close to them. Discussions and teachings approach the subject of loss through a Biblical perspective. GriefShare meets from 6:30-8:30pm on Mondays and also from 3:00-5:00pm on Sundays starting in January. WINTER SMALL GROUP MINISTRIES On January 13th, our new adult Sunday School quarter will begin and on January 16th our Midweek ministries will begin. We will offer the following small groups for adults. For planning purposes, please register for the group you wish to attend on your connection card or at the sign up table in the gym.

Peacemaker Class Our Sunday morning class will be led by Craig Baker, using The Peacemaker by Ken Sande. This is a comprehensive and practical theology for conflict resolution designed to bring about not only a cease-fire but also unity and harmony. You will go beyond resolving conflicts to true, lifechanging reconciliation with family members, coworkers, and fellow believers. Adult Bible Study Our Sunday morning Bible study will continue to learn inductive Bible study methods by using NavPress guide to II Corinthians. Sam Mason will teach you how to use the Bible as the primary source of study to learn about God and what the Bible teaches. Financial Peace University Our Wednesday night group will study Dave Ramseys Financial Peace University, learning how to handle money Gods way. Over a nine week period you will learn how to take control of your money, invest for the future and give like never before. Womens Wednesday Night Study- Our ladies will learn wisdom from the book of Proverbs using Kathleen Nielsens study Proverbs, The Way of Wisdom. Ingrid Entingh will lead this study digging into Proverbs' poetic kaleidoscope of wisdomthemes: words, work, neighbors and friends, marriage and family, money, planning for the future.

Severe Weather Policy - In the event of a winter storm, the session will contact the congregation by phone if the service is cancelled. You can also check WoodTV8 for any church cancellations.
