BA equipment being lifted down or put down should be carried out using correct lifting and donning techniques as per training instructions. Persons who have donned BA on the appliance should leave the crew cab backward holding handgrips provided and ensuring that they have good footing on appliance steps.

Ensure a good visual check of cylinders & air hoses prior to opening the air valve. Never direct air under pressure at any person including oneself. Compressed air should not be used to clean equipment or work surfaces. All BA equipment and procedures are subject to Brigade operational procedures for testing and wearing procedures. All personnel trained in their use.

Proposed Actions/Controls (Long/medium/short term) Cylinders should be properly stored in racks. Cylinders should be tested at appropriate intervals Protective clothing and footwear to be used at all times when handling cylinders. Cylinders should be handled with care and not be allowed to drop or knock off each other. Cylinders should be covered with protective cover. All cylinders subject to 5-year hydraulic testing schedule. Records of cylinder tests maintained in the BA Department. Empty & full cylinders should be separately stored in suitable racks. The charging of breathing apparatus compressed cylinders is carried out in accordance with Brigade Procedures. All full & empty cylinders are safely stored in B.A. room.
