Pax Christi Pax Christi is Latin for Peace of Christ, as of 2007, it exists in more than 60 countries, and it was

founded in 1945 by the French after WWII. Pax Christi forms a non-governmental organization that strives to play a pioneer role in the research of solutions of armed conflicts; it is one of the most well-known Catholic peace movements. In 1983, it received the Prize for Peace Education. It is member of the International Coalition for the Decade of the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence. Pax Christi works mainly on the following issues, either by being directly involved or by means of support:

Human Security and Armed Conflict Economic Factors of Armed Conflict Human Rights, the Rule of Law and Armed Conflict Conflict Transformation Global Restoration/Care for Creation Peace Building Youth Work and Peace Education Spirituality and Praxis of Non-violence

From its foundation Pax Christi attracted every kind of member; men, women, young, old, lay people, priests, without social, racial or cultural distinction Peace for All, Peace by All. In 1958 a small group started meeting in London to discuss Church teaching on peace and to promote the international marches/pilgrimages across Europe, for peace. The objective was to further peace by nurturing international friendship. Pax Christi had strong links with London University and most members were under 30 years of age. The theme of religion and violent conflict has become a major debate in international relations and the world media. Situations in the Middle East have made us aware of the complex inter-relationship between religion and violence. Although the world's religions aspire to peace, it is a fact that in many instances religious persons, resources, and organisations are implicated in conflict and violence. Shouldnt religious communities and their leaders emphatically refuse to provide moral or ethical support for the use of violence in response to conflict, or in the pursuit of political, economic and cultural, let alone, religious ends? The non-violent perspectives of all religions in their Holy Scriptures should be promoted, and the faithful should be educated in this. According to Pax Christi International, true and lasting peace is made possible only through justice, reconciliation and forgiveness, and thats where religions have often something special to offer from deep inside their own traditions.

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
