FINDING GOD
The splendid magi, all sparkle and dash and solemnity, march right up o the pages of Ma hew's Gospel and into our churches today. Ma hew alone tells us this grand and seduc ve story so that we might see the light and know that the child these magi visited is the fulllment of prophecy, the king of the world that stretches to the magi's home country and beyond, right down the ages to us. We too see and understand anew. Like the magi, our patron saints for this day, we see in the newborn child the king of the universe and light of the world. Like the magi, we nd in ourselves a new faith and a new life. Like them, we return to our home by a new route. We are asked to come away from this fes ve season ourselves renewed and awake to the presence of God among us. We are asked to nd God where God is to be found, to be a en ve and surprised and ready to bow down in adora on and to oer our gi s.

Winter Edition
The Mission San Luis Rey Community is rooted in the values and spirituality of St. Francis of Assisi. The Year of Faith gives all of us a prac cal opportunity to be truly present to one another by listening without judgment, speaking in kindness and addressing dierences with care. Faith is a verb that can be demonstrated in our day-to-day ac ons. A quote a ributed to St. Francis sums it up: Preach the Gospel and if necessary use words. The Year of Faith is a call for a full Church year to examine, proclaim, and commit to a public witness of our faith. This call is the very mission of the Church. Pope Benedict, in his proclama on of the year states: All people have a right to know Jesus Christ and his Gospel: and Chris ans, all Chris ans priests, religious and lay faithful have a corresponding duty to proclaim the Good News. Pope Benedict, Synod on Evangeliza on closing 10/26/12
The Community of Mission San Luis Rey is formed from these six communi es: Franciscan Friars of Old Mission San Luis Rey Mission San Luis Rey Parish The Retreat Center of Old Mission San Luis Rey Old Mission Montessori School The Cemetery of Old Mission San Luis Rey Franciscan School of Theology (September 2013) Each of our communi es makes up the greater Catholic Faith Community of Mission San Luis Rey. Each of our communi es has a place in our process of understanding what the Year of Faith can mean for us. For each liturgical season, we will publish a calendar of the Year of Faith celebra ons and events that are going to be held in our communi es. Other events and celebra ons not part of the Year of Faith will be listed separately.
