The project was carried out at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Ramachandrapuram, Andhra Pradesh. It deals with the improvised techniques used for insulating a large capacity turbo generator. In large-scale industries manufacturing generators, insulation design plays a vital role. If insulation fails, generator fails which leads to the loss of cores of rupees. In order to minimize the overall cost of the machine and time cycle of the insulation system VPI (Vacuum Pressurized Impregnation) process is used. The latest technology for insulation in the world and adopted by BHEL unit is VPI process and is of resin poor thermosetting type.
