A powerful and reliable drill rig that is based on our experience of building and servicing more than 3500 core drills. The DIAMEC U6 is the first of a new generation of DIAMEC core drills. It incorporates the latest hydraulic and electronic technology into a modern compact design and includes many options that give you real flexibility. We pride ourselves in bringing you a machine that has everything you want. Operating the new DIAMEC U6 couldnt be easier. It is optionally available as a manually operated rig, but comes with a new third generation Automatic Performance Control as standard.

DIAMEC U6
The DIAMEC U6 is the result of combining the skills and experience of the Atlas Copco Craelius and JKS Boyles organizations. It represents the best of both worlds. A synthesis of the finest features of the DIAMEC and JKS Boyles product ranges that satisfies the requirements of both customer sets with enough new technology to make it probably the most robust, reliable and flexible drill rig on the market. The DIAMEC U6 is optimised for our latest diamond bit and core barrel technologies. It can be delivered skid or crawler mounted with an electric or diesel power unit.

5 1. Flexible, easy-to-use positioner The DIAMEC U6 has the most convenient, easy-to-use positioner system available on any diamond drill rig today. This flexible system enables a single operator, working alone, to set the feedframe in any position from +90 to 90 degrees without moving the wireline hoist. There is also a turntable option that enables the drill to be quickly positioned horizontally. Using these features, you can set the rig to drill a hole at a specific position or line it up on an existing drill hole much more easily. You can also set it up to drill its own feedframe anchor holes in the rock face. 2. Robust feedframe The push-equals-pull design of the feed cylinder gives maximum capacity for both uphole and downhole drilling. This, together with the rigid frame construction and a longer cradle, gives steady and secure drilling resulting in a straighter hole. Reliability of the feedframe is improved as a result of the direct feed cylinder and 50% fewer parts. The robust new design results in less wear, which means that fewer adjustments are needed and they are easier to perform. There are also convenient telescopic adjustments for the anchor channel and mast extension. 6

3. New rotation units There are two new rotation units one standard, the other optional. The standard version is an N size, 1800 rpm unit, the optional version an H size, 1400 rpm unit. For optimum performance, you can choose between two rotation motors on the standard unit one for drilling holes of size AB, and one for holes of size BN. Rpm can be set and adjusted by the operator from the control panel. The Atlas Copco patented hydraulic chuck has quick-change jaws. Oversize bearings and a new type of distributor seal give extra long life. And a sealed gearbox reduces maintenance and enables drilling in any position. 3 4. New rod holder with latest technology The new rod holder has a higher holding capacity and can handle A- to H-size rods. You can adjust the clamping force to suit different types of drill rod. The rod holder features the latest gas spring technology, which results in longer service life. The gas spring is in the form of a cartridge, which simplifies servicing because it is light and easily replaced. And the gas pressure can be monitored for absolute safety. 5. Modern hydraulic system Environmentally friendly hydraulic connections have O-ring face seals that give zero leakage. Pressure filters are fitted between hose separation points and valves on both APC and manual control versions of the rig. These prevent dirt from entering the valves after opening the hydraulic lines to move the drill modules, thus improving reliability. The valves are located on the drill modules, which means that the pressure filters are always protecting them from dirt and there are fewer hoses on the floor. 6. New wireline winch The new heavy-duty 1000-meter wireline hoist and levelwind assembly is fast and compact. It stays in position for all drilling angles from 90 to +90 degrees. Only the orientation of the levelwind assembly needs to be adjusted to suit the drilling angle, and this can be done quickly and easily without any tools. There is just one greasing point, which means low maintenance.

Third generation Automatic Performance Control


The Automatic Performance Control of the DIAMEC U6 marks the achievement of true oneman operation. Why? Because it is an ergonomic control system that meets the needs of the user. We visited customer sites and watched drillers using the earlier DIAMEC models, listened to their problems, incorporated their requirements into the new rig, and field-tested the results. The end product is a system that makes it much easier for the driller to enter all necessary drilling parameters and to monitor the drilling operation from a distance. And a joystick is provided for manual control of wireline, fast travel, and rotation. New functions. These include automatic wireline, powerful self-diagnostics, screen display of manuals and parts lists, and remote trouble shooting. State-of-the-art hardware and software. The APC features the latest generation Can bus control, which minimises the hydraulic plumbing and electrical wiring. The electronics are very rugged and cope extremely well with harsh environmental conditions.

Features that reflect user needs


The DIAMEC U6 APC operates in a Microsoft Windows environment and has a new interface that is easier to learn and use. Other advances over the earlier APC models include: Screen-based control single control knob arepanel. A touch screen and a provided for easy input and adjustment of control parameters. Drilling information is presented on the screen. Symbols are used instead of words. Numbers are displayed large enough to be read easily from a distance.

Manual control
Although the APC comes as standard, you may if you wish order a rig with an optional manual control system. This control panel is similar to the APC panel but there is of course no computer i.e. the driller must supervise the drilling operation. The manual control panel is lighter, has an ergonomic design and is therefore more user friendly. The pilot-type hydraulic system has additional features, such as improved hold-back, make-up torque and integrated flush water control.

With Automatic Performance Control, the drilling operation is supervised by a computer giving the driller time for emptying core barrels, preparing bits, etc. Once the driller has entered all necessary drilling parameters, the APC computer takes over control and maintains the penetration rate. The APC acts instantly on any change in rock formation that calls for adjustment in feed force, rotation speed or torque, or even a complete shutdown.
