Profile of Dr.

Muhammad Farooq Warsi,

I M. Farooq Warsi was born on 10-06-1979, in a small village of district Bahawalpur. My family has a modest rural background, whereby my father was a farmer. He had a small piece of land which he toiled to make living. I have three siblings, and all of us were fortunate enough to have access to education. I got SSC education from G.H.S Chak No 36/DNB, Bahawalpur by obtaining first position. After my high school education, I did my F.Sc (pre-medical) and B.Sc from Govt. S. A. College Ahmad Pur East (district Bahawalpur).

I did M.Sc in Chemistry from Islamia University Bahawalpur. At the end of my M.Sc, I was selected as charge man-chemical (BPS-12) in POFs Wah Cannt, where I served for four years and then moved for further education i.e. M.Phil in Physical Chemistry from the best university of Pakistan i.e. QAU-Islamabad. When I completed M.Phil in 2005, HEC had already launched a mega project to send Pakistani nationals in technologically advanced countries to get highly skilled manpower in all disciplines. I appeared in national as well as international GRE (general) exam and qualified for the award of scholarship in three different HEC schemes at the same time. I decided to stick with 10% overseas scholarship scheme, which is one of the prestigious fellowship offered by HEC for doctoral studies in advanced countries like USA, UK, Japan, Australia, Hong-Kong and South Korea. In order to avoid the language barrier, I selected UK, and the other important reason of selecting UK for doctoral studies was their universities quick response to get admission. The opportunity of studying in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environment in UK, broadened my horizon. I was introduced to new vistas of knowledge and recent advancements in field of my interest. My research group was quite international and our group leader (Dr. Victor Chechik) always encouraged us to present the research work in national nd (UK) and international conferences. I was also awarded a best poster award at 42 annual international ESR conference, held at The University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK (2009). During the course of my Ph.D (Chemistry-Nanomaterials) studies in U.K, I have published one paper in Chem. Comm., and one paper is under review in Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys. My core expertise is in the field of synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles for bio-medical applications. Pakistan being a developing country lacking highly skilled manpower in the field of nanotechnology, I will be a part of nanotechnology community in Pakistan to train the young generation in the field of nanotechnology.
