Learning outcomes: 1. Listen critically to various stimuli and respond appropriately. 2. Speak fluently, correctly and confidently for a variety of purposes. 3. Read critically for meaning and understanding, and give personal response. 4. Use correct and appropriate language structure in different types of writing and academic papers. 5. Write well reasoned and coherent paragraphs. 6. Assess own language progress through reflections/journals. This coursework addresses Learning Outcomes 3, 4, 5 and 6. Coursework Objectives: By the end of this short coursework, the students should be able to: i. search for materials on an issue in education related to their field of study and distinguish the main points from the supporting details (1.5; 6.1; 6.2). ii. use the main points identified in the reading materials to write a summary on the topic (6.3). iii. write an effective personal response of about 500 words on the issue related to the topic (6.4). The students are assessed on their ability to read critically and give personal response using appropriate language structure of an academic writing in a well reasoned and coherent paragaraphs. Project (100%) Task 1 (60%) Collect and compile at least three relevant articles on a topic related to your field of study. Each of the articles should be at least 500-600 words in length and contain relevant issues to be highlighted. Based on your reading of the articles you need to: write a summary on the topic.

Task 2 (40%)

You are required to write a personal response based on your reading of the three articles. Your personal response should be about 500 words (1 - 1 pp). Please bear in mind that your ability to develop an argument and relate it to real life situations will be given credit. You should also take into considerations the following aspects: Mechanics of writing Language Guidelines 1. This is an individual task. 2. Collect and compile at least three different texts from different sources on a topic related to your field of study (e.g. Music, Special Education, Science, English). 3. Every student should use a different text for this coursework. 4. Append the texts selected. A GOOD ASSIGNMENT SHOULD SHOW: 1. a good understanding of the task 2. originality in presentation 3. appropriate language use
