Preface
English on sky is an integrated English textbook for junior high school students. The textbook is carefully designed based on the Competency-Based Curriculum. It is designed to help their learners develop learners linguistic, actional, socio-cultural and strategic competence in an integrated way. How the book is designed and develops is reflected in the map of the book. The map presents the themes, the genres, the indicators of the basic competencies to be developed, grammatical items, and curriculum link and community club. The indicators may serve as the objective to be achieved in each lesson unit. The grammatical items are selected and graded to help learners perform the language function used in the dialogs and also in real communication. In exercises move from mechanical to meaningful and where possible to communication ones. They encourage the students to work individually, in pairs, in small and large groups. They also encourage the students to work on their own, to use the language in small project. English on sky is significantly different from the existing English textbook for junior high school student published in Indonesia in that in encourage the students to develop their overall competence starting with their speaking skill, as suggested by the curriculum. In the speaking skill is expected to be the spring board for the mastery on other language skills and the mastery of the English grammatical system. Failure to acquire English as a foreign language properly usually results from the lack of contextualized exposure to the language in terms of both quality and quantity. English on sky is designed just for that: to provide ample contextualized exposure to English and provide opportunities to use of English.
