High-performance, low-cost, production-ready database software Rapid database development and administration via an integrated tools environment High availability and minimal downtime to help meet service-level agreements Easy management of bi-temporal data with the Time Travel Query feature NoSQL support with a native XML data store and a graph triple store

IBM DB2 10 Express Edition is a comprehensive, highperformance, scalable database management system designed to meet the needs of small and medium businesses, academic institutions and IBM Business Partners. It can be up and running in minutes and delivers all of the core capabilities of DB2 for Linux, UNIX and Windows. With support for up to four processor cores and 8 GB of memory, DB2 10 Express Edition is used extensively in building robust, resilient, secure, cost-efficient applications. The database is designed to be easy to embed, and integrated self-management features help ensure that it is easy to use. It can be upgraded seamlessly to more scalable editions of DB2 without any changes to application code. IBM DB2 10 Express-C is a no-charge edition of DB2 10 Express Edition that supports a maximum of two processor cores and 4 GB of memory. It offers development and deployment capabilities at no charge for the developer and partner community, and can be distributed with third-party solutions without any royalties to IBM. DB2 10 Express Edition enhances database performance and offers the ability to handle the business demands that directly translate into enhanced revenue and customer satisfaction.

Integrated tools environment

DB2 10 Express Edition enables IT departments to leverage the integrated environment provided by IBM Data Studio, which includes advanced development, administration, management and monitoring capabilities. It offers an agile, integrated environment to help IT staff develop, manage and administer heterogeneous database environments more efficiently, helping to save maintenance time as well as reducing acquisition costs.

High Availability Disaster Recovery

DB2 10 Express Edition helps organizations minimize application downtime through the High Availability Disaster Recovery (HADR) feature, which is designed to provide ultra-fast hardware and software failover capabilities without impacting database performance. By decreasing data server downtime, organizations can meet strict service-level agreements (SLAs) with minimal loss of data during such failures. Reliable data recovery allows business continuity even through disasters.

NoSQL support
DB2 10 Express Edition includes IBM pureXML, which manages XML data in its native format to help improve performance, reduce data storage needs and simplify the integration of XML and relational datamaking it easier to work with data. DB2 10 Express Edition also offers the Graph Store feature, which allows IT organizations to efficiently store graph triples.

SQL compatibility
DB2 10 Express Edition offers a SQL compatibility feature that allows IT departments to run applications written for other relational databases seamlessly on DB2. This feature helps ensure that DB2 is compatible with other major relational database management systems.

World-class security
DB2 10 Express Edition is now fortified with greater access control, including Row and Column Access Control as well as Label-Based Access Control (an implementation of multilevel security). These security features are identical to those available in other editions of DB2 10.

SQL replication
DB2 10 Express Edition offers SQL replication to support data movement between relational databases. The feature helps maintain up-to-date data based on the replication intervals. SQL replication can also be used to replicate data between a primary data source and multiple replicas of the source, or vice versa.

Native temporal support

DB2 10 Express Edition provides bi-temporal data management via the Time Travel Query feature, which facilitates retrieval of data for any given point in timepast, present or future. Time Travel Query helps reduce the complexity, maintenance and storage requirements of an application by simplifying programmatic requirements with far fewer lines of code.

Backup compression
DB2 10 Express Edition helps optimize storage through backup compression, which reduces the size of all data in backup images (including catalog tables, index objects, large objects, auxiliary database files and metadata).
