On Track to
Meet Demand
2008 Statistics Book

20 0 8 W O R L D O F C O R N

U.S. corn growers continue their

track record of performance.

In the starting blocks a year ago, corn producers

in the United States were challenged to produce a
crop to meet not only record domestic demand, but also
growing demand around the world. There were concerns the
worlds leading supplier of corn couldnt rise to the challenge.
In the end, U.S. corn producers delivered crossing the finish line with a record crop.
Although proud of their accomplishment, corn producers in the United States know that
they cannot rely on past performances they are committed to delivering again. They
are determined to meet the demand for high-quality corn for the worlds citizens and
their livestock. They thrive on high expectations and will work tirelessly to deliver.
This World of Corn 2008 Statistics Book is designed as a resource for international corn
users or those interested in corn production and trade. It highlights dozens of facts and
figures surrounding corn production in the United States and around the world.
By examining these pages, you can gain a better understanding of the capabilities and
determination of those who commit to raising corn in the United States each year. It shows
the past and present with an eye toward the potential.
