INSTALLATION
This section will describe the details of how to install the RS-02 PLUS PABX system. It is suggested that you read this section thoroughly before beginning the installation. Also refer to PROGRAMMING for information about customizing the system for a particular installation site.
INSTALLATION
2.1
INSPECTION
Before beginning the installation of the RS-02 PLUS, open the cabinet by removing the front cover and inspect all cards to ensure that they are completely plugged in and did not come loose during shipping. Also inspect for any physical damage that might have occurred. Check all the cables to make sure that it is completely seated in its connectors. Check the Extension and Trunk Connector Terminals to make sure that all the screws are present and none fell out. Check the label beside the socket to ensure that it is of the proper voltage for your country. Check the fuse by removing it and see whether the properly rated fuse is installed. For systems operating on 220VAC, the fuse should be 1A fast acting. For systems operating from 110VAC, the fuse should be 2A fast acting. DO NOT use any other rated fuse in the system. If the cards are not plugged into the system, they may be installed at this time. Note that there are special DIP Switch settings required for different system configuration. Even if cards were installed in the system before shipped, it is important to inspect the DIP Switch settings to ensure that the system is correctly configured. You can refer to Section 3, DIP Switch Setting, for details.

INSTALLING BATTERY ON CPU CARD A battery is required to protect the system memory and clock during power failure. The battery is installed in the battery holder on the CPU card. Replace the battery every year by a new 3V lithium battery (CR2016). NOTE: Remove the insulation tube, if any, from battery holder. Forget to remove the insulation tube or bad contact between the battery and the holder will cause lost of system data and malfunction of the clock during power failure.
2.2.2
INSTALLING TRUNK CARDS One to four trunk cards may be installed in a RS-02 PLUS system. The number depends on the number of working Central Office (CO) lines. Each card serves one CO line. Be sure that the CPU DIP Switch settings [SW1] are correct for the cards you will install. The trunk cards are inserted on top of the CPU card through a 9-pin connector [CN5, CN8, CN9, or CN10] on the CPU card. After the card is inserted a yellow cable must be plugged in the 4-pin connector [CN1] on the trunk card. The other side of this cable is plugged in the corresponding 4-pin connector on the 1st Extension card. The 4-pin connectors CN1, CN3, CN5, and CN7 on the 1st Extension card are either plugged with the yellow cables or with jumpers. If Trunk 1 is inserted, CN1 is plugged with yellow cable connected to Trunk 1 otherwise with two jumpers. If Trunk 2 is inserted, CN3 is plugged with yellow cable connected to Trunk 2 otherwise with two jumpers. If Trunk 3 is inserted, CN5 is plugged with yellow cable connected to Trunk 3 otherwise with two jumpers. If Trunk 4 is inserted, CN7 is plugged with yellow cable connected to Trunk 4 otherwise with two jumpers.
INSTALLATION
2.2.3
INSTALLING SECOND EXTENSION CARD If more than 8 telephones are required, the second extension card must be installed. The first extension card serves extension 200~207 whereas the second extension card serves extension 208~215. The second extension card is inserted on top of the first extension card through 5 plastic supports. The following cables must be installed: 1. Blue cable [8-way] from power supply to CN14 of second extension card. 2. Flat cable [26-way] from CN7 of CPU card to CN13 of second extension card. All the 4-pin connectors CN1, CN3, CN5 & CN7 on the second extension card must be all plugged with jumpers. Be sure to set the DIP Switch SW2 position 6 of the CPU card to ON.
2.2.4
CONNECTING TELEPHONES Telephone sets are connected to screw terminals on the extension card. The markings in front of the connectors are extension numbers. The numbers for second extension card are shown in brackets.
2.2.5
CONNECTING CO LINES CO lines are connected to screw terminals on the trunk cards.
2.2.6
POWER UP TESTING After all the DIP switches have been properly set and all the cards installed, the power can be switched on. Do not install or remove cards or cables with the power applied. You may now run basic checks to see that the system is operating properly. Temporary connect telephone sets to each Extension connector and test all installed Extensions are active. If there is no problem, you will hear a continuous dial tone while you lift up the handset.
2.2.7
CHOOSING A PROPER INSTALLATION SITE Carefully choose the installed site for the equipment by keeping the following considerations in mind: Choose a site that is centrally located to most of the telephone sets to keep wiring requirements to a minimum. Choose a site that has adequate AC Power available. Do not install the RS-02 PLUS system on an outlet with other electrical equipment. Do not use extension cords or multi-tap outlet adapter. It is useful to have one or more additional AC outlets installed for service lights and paging system. Do not install the RS-02 PLUS system near photocopier equipment, blueprint equipment or in dusty areas. Do not install the system inside cupboard where ventilation is not enough. Do not install the equipment where it will be in direct sunlight, or in areas where the temperature will exceed 40C.
INSTALLATION
Do not choose a site where the equipment might become wet from flooding, sprinkler systems, or leaks. 2.2.8 MOUNTING THE RS-02 PLUS The equipment is designed to mount on wall as shown in the following diagram. Sides, top and bottom of the equipment must be at least 10cm from the walls, ceiling and floor. Do not block the ventilation holes on the sides, or bottom. As the equipment is very quiet during normal operation, it may be installed in an office environment like other pieces of computer equipment. Step 1: Hang the equipment on screws A. Step 2: Fix the equipment by screws B.
2.2.9
TRUNK CARD SURGE PROTECTOR GROUNDING The trunk card has built-in surge protector, which must be connected directly to earth in order to protect the system from lightning.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: Forget to connect the Surge Protector Grounding will cause the system damaged from lightning.
INSTALLATION

The RS-02 PLUS system allows for connection of an external paging system. Connection to the external page system is made through a RCA Jack on the CPU card marked "PAGE". Refers to Technical Specification, Section 8.11 for page port specification. 2.3.4 CONNECTING EXTERNAL MUSIC SOURCE The RS-02 PLUS system allows for connection of an external music source. User can select either internal or external source for Music on Hold purpose. Connection to the music source is made through a RCA Jack on the CPU card marked "MUSIC". Refers Technical Specification, Section 8.12 for external music port specification. 2.3.5 CONNECTING DOOR PHONE Door phone can be connected to any one of the extension lines from 200~215. 2.3.6 CONNECTING ELECTRIC DOOR LOCK The RS-02 PLUS CPU card provides two relay terminals for electric door lock connection. An electric door lock is essentially a solenoid controlled door-strike. When the lock is turned on/off, electromagnetic induction causes noise and transient voltage to generated which, can feedback into the RS-02 PLUS and cause damage. To eliminate this feedback, make either one of these connections: 1. If a DC power supply is used, connect a diode to the door lock in parallel (beware of polarities).
2.
If an AC power supply is used, connect a 30Vrms Varistor to the door lock in parallel. Beware that the AC power supply voltage cannot exceed the varistor voltage. If the door lock need an AC voltage higher than 30Vrms, use a varistor with a higher voltage.
