Review of Australian Standards. To keep abreast of progress in industry, Australian Standards are subject to periodic review and are kept up to date by the issue of amendments or new edit ions as necessary. It is important therefore that Standards users ensure that they are in possession of the latest edit ion, and any amendments thereto. Full detail s of all Australi an Standards and related publications wil l be found in the Standards Australia Catalogue of Publications; this information is supplemented each month by the magazine The Australian Standard, which subscribing members receive, and which gives detail s of new publi cati ons, new edit ions and amendments, and of withdrawn Standards. Suggesti ons for improvements to Australian Standards, addressed to the head offi ce of Standards Australia, are welcomed. Noti fi cati on of any inaccuracy or ambiguity found in an Australi an Standard should be made without delay in order that the matter may be investigated and appropriate action taken.

PREFACE
This Standard was prepared by the Standards Australia Committee on Welding Consumables to supersede AS 1167.11984, Welding and brazing Filler metals, Part 1: Filler metal for brazing and braze welding. The Standard specifies suitable compositions for brazing filler metal to be used under Australian conditions. It includes requirements for chemical composition and analysis, packing and marking. In addition, a standard form of colour coding designed to be mutually acceptable to manufacturers and users has been adopted for identification purposes. The methods of chemical analysis are in accordance with those in the ASTM Book of Standards. This Standard is limited to the brazing alloys currently in general use in Australia. Two additional alloys have been included in this edition but the tables do not include all the brazing alloys specified in BS 1845, Specification for filler metals for brazing, nor in ANSI/AWS A5.8, Specification for brazing filler metal, to which reference should be made for alloys that are not covered by the Australian Standard. Attention is drawn also to AS 1167.2, Welding and brazingFiller metals, Part 2: Filler metal for welding, which specifies alloys that, although intended for a different purpose, have similar compositions to certain alloys in this Standard.
Licensed to Saipem (SPCM) on 16 Oct 2002. Single user licence only. Storage, distribution or use on network prohibited.
Mechanical properties of brazed joints are not covered in this Standard but will generally be found in the relevant application Standards.
