lalamrcds: Hi Katie! Was wondering if any of your characters are inspired by people you know? Like
Emma, Aidan, Casey or Connor?

Katie Ashley: LALA: There's a lot of Emma in myself....the loss of her parents, the desire for a child. I
don't have an "Aidan" in my past so to speak. He represents a lot of guys.

amandacampbell: What was your inspiration for "The Proposition" and "The Proposal"?
Katie Ashley: amanda: being 33 and single and relating to Emma's desires kinda got the story started.
Michelle V and Kelli Maine and I all challenged each other to write a "naughty" scene last spring...the
first that I wrote of The Proposition was the office baby making scene, lol

amandacampbell: Would you ever consider taking the story to the big screen?

Katie Ashley: We have had film interest. A producer is reading the book to see what she thinks the
coproducer was afraid it might be too much like JLo's Back-Up Plan

lalamrcds: That would definitely be something I'd head to the theater for! Good luck!

amandacampbell: I think it's cool that you are all friends!

Katie Ashley: *waves to everyone* This is my first fanchat...so excited. Kelli, Michelle, and Emily and I
have been friends for 3 years. I got to meet them in the flesh this summer for the first time, lol

amandacampbell: Yeah, I agree! I'd buy a ticket :)

dracc: Yes, I would love to see it in the theater. It would be a great film

Katie Ashley: i would love to see it as a movie...so here's hoping!

lovermichelle: What sets your books apart is the perfect mix of humor, emotional scenes & steamy
scenes!

Katie Ashley: aw, thanks, Michelle! It is still shocking to me that the Proposition took off

amandacampbell: The range of emotions that Emma feels for Aidan is definitely complex!

Katie Ashley: I mean, Aidan isn't an alpha male or billionaire, and Dracc, we gotta pimp each other, lol!!

yesi_cavazos: As long as Jensen Ackles it the actor!!! ;)

Katie Ashley: haha, yes, YESI, and I get to be on set and drool!

yesi_cavazos: Oh yeah!

Katie Ashley: it's a quiet book to me that for some reason just resonated with readers...

yesi_cavazos: Then you'd have to get passes for ALL of us! LOL!

amandacampbell: He's just real. HOT, but real

Katie Ashley: hahah, real hot! YES. And yes, Emma does go through a lot of emotions. It's funny how
much flack she's getting in this book....Aidan is quickly forgiven

dracc: After you finished writing the Proposal did you find yourself missing the characters?

amandacampbell: I will be honest, my BFF Veronica stumbled upon this by accident and once we read it
we were hooked!!!

Katie Ashley: Dracc, yes, I did miss them. And I just finished a "deleted" scene, lol that will be a part of
the blog tour on Thursday.

yesi_cavazos: I love deleted scenes!!! Yay!

Katie Ashley: It's Noah's baby shower....and Aidan hates being there, lol. and he's appalled at the
thoughts of a breast pump

lalamrcds: Any chance of some kind of Fitzgerald family novella to catch up with everyone?

ashley_martin: I've not got to read the books yet, I bought them today lol So excited to read them

Katie Ashley: I'm so glad you're bestie stumbled on it amanda!!

Katie Ashley: LALA: You'll see a lot of the Fitzgeralds in The Pairing. Pesh is paired up with Megan,
Aidan's niece.

dracc: I can't wait to see that deleted scene. Any way I can get Emma and Aidan is great

dracc: What does Megan do for a living?

Katie Ashley: Megan an Pesh get paired up as the godparents for Noah..then Megan is finishing nursing
school and gets put under Pesh for her clinicals.

amandacampbell: I love Beau! Was he inspired by a pet of yours?

Katie Ashley: AUGH, Beau!! I love and adore my furbabies

dracc: Ohhh so now I see the connection. :-)

Katie Ashley: So I had to have a dog

dracc: I loved when Beau growled at Pesh.

lalamrcds: I didn't want to kill Pesh maybe just knock him down a flight of stairs and way from Emma!

Katie Ashley: My late grandmother had a black lab just like Beau...well, my cousin now has her. Her
name is Scout, so every time I see her, I'm like, "BEAU!"

amandacampbell: Yes I hate Pesh, but I would read a book that keeps him FAR away from Emma LOL

Katie Ashley: Katie Ashley: My dogs are very overprotective with me and men, so that one came
naturally

dracc: Can I just say that I really want some of Emma's grandma's barbeque. lol

Katie Ashley: aw, lol, on the BBQ. My late grandmother, who Emma's Grammy is modeled after, owned
her own restaurant back in the day so she was a fantastic cook.

Katie Ashley: Yes, she is...I called my grandmother Big Mama, rather than Gramm. Big Mama new about
The Proposition and that Em's Grammy’s name was Virginia, her name she passed away in May.

dracc: When do you expect Pesh and Megan's book to be out?

Katie Ashley: I''m thinking this summer....May/June

dracc: I still miss my grandma. Grandma's are special.

amandacampbell: So sorry. At least she lives on in the books

Katie Ashley: Yes, they are...and she was extra special. And she was a character, lol
amandacampbell: My Nannie is so special to me. Grammy reminds me of her

dracc: I love how you get your books out. Some people take forever.

wait for Music of the Heart.

Katie Ashley: haha, I had NO idea the cliffhanger would BITE ME IN THE ASS!

dracc: Do you sing Katie? I always wondered since Emma does/

Katie Ashley: Dracc...not as good as Emma, lol. I like to say I have a lot of "half ass" talents...singing is

but the cliffhanger is a 1.

dracc: What authors inspire you Katie?

Katie Ashley: hmm, that's a good question...Harper Lee for sure...Fannie Flagg. I love SC Stephens...I
always say Olivia Cunning helped me to write the naughty, lol

Katie Ashley: I mean, my mother loved historical romances so I grew up with all these books lying
around with bare chested dudes and women clinging to them.

dracc: Yes Olivia knows how to write a very naughty scenes. :-)

Katie Ashley: LOL, it was inevitable that I write romance. She makes me blush...and whenever I think
I've gone to far, I just think of her scene. I wouldn't be anywhere without Kelli, Michele, and Emily

dracc: IKR. lol I made the mistake out reading her at work and I couldn't function. lol

lalamrcds: Olivia always makes me blush too! She definitely knows how to make them hot!

Katie Ashley: hahhahaha, Olivia makes you go, "DAMN, did I just read that?"

lalamrcds: Were you listening to anything in particular that inspired where a scene went with Aidan and
Emma?

Katie Ashley: Music totally inspires me...I can listen to a song and a scene comes to me. It's funny bc I
dont' listen to music usually while I'm writing, especially with lyrics

dracc: I noticed that a lot of authors have song lists. Do you have a song list or song that make you think
of Aidan and Emma

Katie Ashley: I do have a Proposal Playlist that should be on the blog tour tomorrow...I'm terrible keep
up with these things.

Katie Ashley: and I'm blanking on songs at the moment...I feel like I"m on Jeopardy and blanking

dana_slonina: Phillip Phillips Home reminds me of Emma and Aiden for some reason.

dracc: Okay, I'll look for it. It's interesting seeing what songs u think of.

yesi_cavazos: Without giving too much away....what has been the response to Emma in The Proposal?

Katie Ashley: lol, Yesi....it's funny. I'm surprised by the venom towards her...I mean, I knew she was
making some choice that might not set well, but that was her journey...she's brokenhearted and
confused and pregnant...some people aren't giving her hormones enough credit.

yesi_cavazos: I am kinda feeling like I need to have her back! LOL!

Katie Ashley: I haven't been pregnant yet, but I know I’m volatile with hormones with PMSing, lo

lovermichelle: Is it hard for you to watch people "hatin" on Emma, if only for a short period of time?

yesi_cavazos: Pregnancy hormones suck!

dracc: Well my hormones were crazy and I didn’t a lot of crazy talk

lalamrcds: lol...the only problem I had with Emma was her letting Pesh into Aidan's home. I didn't

Katie Ashley: yes, it is...because I feel like by Aidan's first "OMG I'M MISERABLE" they're FORGIVEN

lalamrcds: really mind her testing out how she felt about Pesh but flaunting it seemed like a blow

Katie Ashley: yes....I struggled with that one lala

dracc: Does it bother you when people are critical of your work?
Katie Ashley: well, I've been in the biz for 3 years and had agents and pubs hating on me, so I have thick
skin, but at the same time, it's hard.

yesi_cavazos: Yeah, poor Aidan. I just kept picturing Jensen crying...LOL!

Katie Ashley: haha, JENSEN! FTW!! god, that beautiful man

chrissycuffs: i think Pesh pushed Aidan to tell Emma how he felt!!

dracc: Well I'm glad u have thick skin.

Katie Ashley: the worst was a review for The Proposition that totally obliterated Emma and her desire
for a child.

Katie Ashley: since Emma is a lot like me, it REALLY hurt me personally

Katie Ashley: hahaha, and we're talking like 10 paragraphs worth of venom on the book

dracc: You know they had in People mag that they Jensen is expecting his first child too.

Katie Ashley: YES,

lalamrcds: Emma has been one of my favorite heroines because of the way she went after what she
wanted!

Katie Ashley: Crissy, yes, Pesh was supposed to be a catalyst for Aidan and a way for Emma to see that
she could have perfection in front of her with Pesh BUT her heart would always belong to Aidan,
regardless of what he had done thick skin helps but some reviews hurt. And sequels are scary as hell to
write and put out there. Gah, the pressure, couple that with deciding not to take the publishing deal and
Katie was cray cray for a while.

dracc: Some people are just so petty.

dracc: And some folks aren't consistent at all.

Katie Ashley: I kinda want to laugh at the ones who say "Emma should seek therapy about having a
baby." And say, "Yeah, well, mine thought it was fine!" LOL

dana_slonina: Do you feel more secure about your writing yet?

Katie Ashley: hmm, that's a good question Dana...I wish I did. Even when early readers were loving P2.
It was hard to really believe it

dracc: Emma represents a lot of my friends. Some haven't found Mr. Right and they're thinking about
doing the same thing
Katie Ashley: and there's still things I'd like to redo....

mj: I have mentioned on FB how I love that so many of the indie authors support each other. Did you
know some before you all started writing?

Katie Ashley: MJ, thank you! Yes, I feel I have to pay it forward and pimp my friends and fellow writers
And no, I got to know them all through writing. Emily, Michelle, and Kelli all met 3 years ago on
Absolutewrite.com in their forums for YA writing and we bonded and started jokingly saying we were
the Golden Girls.

dracc: I just got my Proposal book in the mail today. :-)

Katie Ashley: I pinch myself hourly! LOL it’s been a long, hard road, 2 agents, 2 almost book deals(one
this summer that was especially painful). I had almost given up on writing

Katie Ashley: Kelli Maine talked me down from the ledge and I finished up The Proposition.

mj: Gotta love her!

Katie Ashley: yes!! My last agent said, "You should write what you know!" I was like, "Ugh, I write to
escape"

anasattic: Stay indie! That way we get books more often. Yay!

Katie Ashley: "I dont' want to write my pain and past" but I did Proposition and dammit if she wasn't
right. lol

yesi_cavazos: Yeah, totally understand. I am sure Katie has heard plenty from me already! LOL!

Katie Ashley: lol, Ana, yes, I'm staying INdie unless an obscene amount of money.

Katie Ashley: I owe huge props to Raine Miller too....she knew the busy savvy aspects to help me . I
could stay Indie and say screw you to the pub and their lousy offer.

Katie Ashley: to be a former teacher (she left at the half year like me) she is a shark lady of biz. lol

dracc: You just have to do what's best for you. And what makes you comfortable.

Katie Ashley: I didn't feel right about it the entire time...was pressured and then it was like I kept getting
these signs from out of nowhere....Raine saw my post on leaving teaching, messaged me, we talked.
And I realized I couldn’t' take the deal

lovermichelle: I love that there are some authors willing to share the knowledge and "mentor" the
newbies.

dracc: Yes that makes a difference.

Katie Ashley: ugh, yes, there are some cliques. And I don’t' get that YA writers are very cliquish...

mj: More than other genres?

dracc: And one thing about teaching you can always go back it you ever wanted too.

Katie Ashley: that's true. So far I haven't missed it yet, lol. I miss the kids and they miss me....I've gotten
messages.

Katie Ashley: yes, on YA writers...they also do not embrace Indie writers like the adult world does

Katie Ashley: HAHHAHAA, I can't believe I was teaching and promoting

dracc: I used to teach and I can my stress level went down after I stopped. lol

dana_slonina: Did you worry about how the school would feel about your books?

Katie Ashley: yes, Dana, that's why I did a pen name. lol

lovermichelle: Katie ~ have you ever thought about co-authoring a book?

Katie Ashley: Kelli and I joked about doing one...a YA one though. I’d love to do an anthology one day.
I've told the girls we should write a scenario where all of our characters show up.

Katie Ashley: And yes, you need to check out Ana's blog tomorrow for an interview with Emma

mj: What has been the absolute best thing about being a successful indie author?

Katie Ashley: I had Aidan joking that he was jamming out to Black Falcon the other day

Katie Ashley: And I made sure to include Patrick. I read a review where someone said, "I sure hate we
didn't see Patrick after the beginning.

dracc: I love Patrick and Becky and her boys.

Katie Ashley: The shower is at Becky's house..we get a bit of Georgie, but not the other boys

Katie Ashley: The funny thing is I have cousins who are Fitzgeralds---we're related on a different side

dracc: I love when Becky's boys try and cuss like Uncle Aidan. lol
Katie Ashley: And I wasn't thinking but I have a cousin Becky Fitzgerald...which would have been becky's
maiden name.

lovermichelle: Patrick and the rest of the gang show up much in the companion novel?

Katie Ashley: Yes, Michelle, they will. They'll be at the Baptism as well as

dracc: Fitzgerald is a good Irish name. :-)

Katie Ashley: yes, and I'm part Irish

dracc: That Baptism should be interesting too.

Katie Ashley: with Pesh as godfather, yes, lol. But since Em isn't Catholic, she wanted 1 non catholic

dracc: My maiden name is Collins and my grandfather was half Irish.

Katie Ashley: I'm Baptist, but I have a goddaughter. I saw her delivered.

Katie Ashley: It's before the epilogue actually....Noah's Baptism is when he's only about 4 months old…
The epilogue was when he was 8.

Katie Ashley: May or June. I worry everyone will be like, "Good lord, she's putting out another book?!!"
