BALI THE RIGHT WAY

Gday again folks and welcome to windy, rainy Bali for another week. I find it amazing that this time of year is the busy time in Bali with the season being the wettest and the windiest of the year. I was sat up at a local haunt the other day and listened as a group of young tourists compared storys about how deep the roadway was covered in water at the front of their hotel due to all the rain we have had and couldn't help but wonder if they even thought about the tropical destination before they headed over. One young traveller in particular mentioned the high aliasj@kutaweekly.com winds that the island has been having and lamented that a kite surfing business would be a good idea for the beach. I can see the headlines now Traveller breaks neck in Bali beach accident I can think of better things to do while on holidays like gargling straight bleach and throwing myself off a balcony. Why the hell would you undertake such a phsyically demanding task as kite surfing when there are so many comfy bar stools and pool li lo's to be used in unisen with a cold green bottle or two whilst on holiday. I remember when I was a tourist to the island, all those years ago and a big day was like white water rafting in the wet season while the rains where heavy. For those of you that havent worked it out, it's the best time to do it as the river has plenty of water flowing which helps make it an exciting day. At best you just sit in the raft and let the others paddle and simply enjoy the senery. Anyways back to the rain and the people that book for the Christmas break to Bali, what do you expect? It's a tropical climate and at this time of year it rains and rain it does. You will notice that many of the buildings have been specially made to cater for the incredible downpours we have and the drainage system is a direct result of the rain. I remember sitting in a bar on Legion street one night in the middle of the wet season and watching the rain completely fill the road in under twenty minutes. The rain came down so hard that one car which was parked under a downpipe spout aimed at the road from a second storey roof was literally water blasting the vehicle directly at the passengers door and when the vehicle owners turned up to jump in their car and head home the passenger got absolutely drenched when they tried to get in the car. It was funny to watch as they had clearly spent the evening doing their best to keep dry and looked like they had enjpoyed an evening together at dinner to end the night with a brutal watering before heading home. The water usually clears up and subsides as quickly as it comes. I witnessed this the same night I watched Legian street become a free flowing canal. I distinctly remember the plastic cups, cigarette butts, and almost anything that floated being washed out to the nearest drain and out to sea I guess. There was another funny thing I watched while sinking a few greenies and that was a crazy American who thought the torrent in front of the pub looked like a great place to try out some body surfing and without hesitation he launches himself into the filthy water and proceeds to yahoo, yippy and splash around like a body surfing pro, a funny site to say the least. There have been a few times in my life when I have watched someone do something stupid in Bali and that would have to be high up on the list. I don't know what happened to the fellow as is usual on the island he wasn't seen again. He probably contracted some disease from playing in the water. My advice is to try and not body surf in the roadway when they flood. I wouldn't even walk through it without tough footwear. I guess it all gets down to common sense and the execution of the same. Ok folks I think I've said my piece for the week and I hope the most of you have as greater time as you can whilst here remembering that holiday is the name of the game. I hope the most of you stay safe, happy, healthy and always try to remmember, Some cause happiness wherever they go, others whenever they go Enjoy your week, ALIASJ..

BALI, LOCATION TO SUIT EVERYONE

JIMBARAN
Jimbaran is just south of the airport and Kuta. This was formerly a real backwater of south Bali, just a tiny fishing village with a daily market. That all started to change in the 1980s and Jimbaran is now home to several world class 5 star beach resorts, plus a few more moderate mid-market hotels. There is however little in the way of budget accommodation and there are also many high-end villas in this area, particularly on the ridges of high ground above Jimbaran Bay. This has resulted in monikers such as the "Beverly Hills of Bali" or "Millionaire's Row". The bay itself has a pleasant white sand beach and is very safe for swimming. The three clusters of grilled seafood restaurants on the beach are a major tourist draw in the evenings, as is the truly stunning sunset. Jimbaran is also home to a Norwegian University, Gateway College, with around 500 students studying athletics, philosphy, culture, economics and journalism. The school is located in Kedonganan close to Sari Segara Resort and in Jl, Bantas Kau where it also has a small cafe. Jimbaran has an increasing number of rather chic shops but there is little or no nightlife here. It has the advantage of being a little closer to Kuta and Seminyak and the cultural highlights of Central Bali.

THE BUKIT
Much has been written about this dusty, arid and rugged area, which forms the southern most tip of the island. Limestone cliffs of up to 100 meters in height provide some of the best views in the world, along with some deserted white sandy beaches. Everyone wants a piece of this are, from international hotel chains such as Bvlgari, Versace and Banyan Tree, to established residential villa developers looking for that perfect plot. The area offers secluded beaches, and exclusivity to name but a few reasons why this is fast becoming the place to be. Prices have more than tripled in the area over last 2 years alone with still plenty of potential to be realized, so now is a plan. Only a short 15 minutes drive from the international airport, The Bukit is fast being referred to as the new Millionaires Row.

PROPERTY OWNERSHIP IN INDONESIA
As a foreigner, there is a number of ways that can lead to you owning your dream property in Bali.
The best option for you will depend on your personal situation, the type of property, risk factors and the type of investment model. Even though it states in Indonesian law that foreigners are not allowed to hold a 'freehold' land title, there are ways that have been in practice for a number of years that enable foreigners to control a freehold title indirectly or to hold a leasehold title in their own name. NOMINEE SYSTEM FOR HAK MILIK

This structure is a regularly practiced procedure in Indonesia, whereby the foreigner nominates and Indonesian representative to acquire the land and to hold the 'freehold' title (Hak Milik) on behalf of the foreigner. Ownership of the land is transferred from the previous owner to the Indonesian nominee. The foreigner and the Indonesian nominee then sign an agreement which recognizes the Indonesian nominee as the legal owner of the property whilst declaring the foreigner as the rightful owner of the property. This agreement denotes that the Indonesian nominee will carry out any directives from the foreigner regarding the land. This agreement must always be concluded in the presence of a public notary.

RIGHT OF USE (HAK PAKAI)

This is the right of use over state-owned (crown land) or property owned by public or private persons/entities for a specific purpose for (generally) a finite period and occasionally for an indefinite period. This land right may not be sold, exchanged or transferred unless explicitly state in an agreement. Hak pakai may be held by and Indonesian individual or entity.

Powerful Pluto complicates personal relationships this week, so don't feel slighted if family members ignore you [or come on too strong and are super demanding]. Just take it in your languid Libran stride! If you are attached Thursday is the night for plenty of passion and sexual sizzle. Singles look for lasting love with a smooth-talking Scorpio or an amorous Aquarian.

The body of a Chicago man who died of cyanide poisoning less than two months after winning $1 million in the Illinois Lottery will be exhumed for further examination in two to four weeks, according to the Cook County medical examiner.
An affidavit to exhume the body of Urooj Khan, 46, will be filed with the Cook County Circuit Court, Mary Paleologos, a spokeswoman for the county, said. Once a judge approves the request, which should take one to two weeks, it will probably take another one to two weeks to arrange the exhumation with the cemetery, Paleologos said. Khan's death on July 20 was at first determined to be caused by heart disease. No autopsy was performed, since there was no trauma present and the death appeared natural. Toxicology results indicated no drugs or carbon monoxide present. But several days after the

Khan had decided to take the lumpsum payment, which amounted to about $424,500 after taxes. A check was s e n t f r o m Springfield, Illinois to Khan July 19 or July 20 so it is unlikely Khan ever saw it, Lang said. The check was paid August 15, Lang said. He said it is common that when winners die before receiving their winnings, the money is paid to the estate. Khan's estate is in Cook County probate court. The next status date in the case is January 24. Steven Kozicki, an attorney for Khan's wife Shabana Ansari, was not immediately available for comment. Kozicki said that Ansari had been interviewed by Chicago police detectives and had nothing to hide.

HOROSCOPE PREDICTION 17 Jan - 23 Jan 2013

The professional spotlight is shining on you, and others are finally sitting up and taking notice. Balancing what you love to do with what you need to do is the secret to future success. For some lucky Rams, love and work are linked in wonderful ways. You'll feel like taking the initiative on the weekend, but avoid putting others offside by being too impulsive and gungho.

Taurus April 21 to May 21

Don't get stuck in a relentless rut! Make your aspirations as big and beautiful as possible. With plenty of passion and persistence, you can make your dreams come true! Venus hooks up with Pluto on Thursday, which increases your inclination towards jealous, possessive behavior. Loosen your tenacious Taurus grip on others otherwise you'll just drive them away.

Scorpio October 24 to November 22

Don't despair over the difficulties that serious Saturn is sending your way. Instead, be inspired to learn as much as you can from the present challenges. As birthday great Dolly Parton said If you want to see the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain. Venus links up with Pluto [your ruling planet] on Thursday, which increases your Scorpio charm and your controlling side.

Gemini May 22 to June 21

This week's stars encourage connecting with others [locally, nationally and internationally] as you mix and mingle; communicate and chat; text and tweet. Mercury [your ruling planet] joins Mars in your adventure zone, so plan an exciting trip away for some time soon. It's also the perfect time to delve into a subject that has always fascinated you, or enroll in a course for 2013.

Sagittarius November 23 to December 21

If you rush money matters this week Sagittarius, then you could end up with a financial fiasco on your hands. Strive to be extra careful with cash and credit and give online shopping a very wide berth. Lust and loot are a complicated mix on Thursday, so try to keep the two separate. On the weekend, aim to be generous and gregarious [rather than bossy and belligerent].

Cancer June 22 to July 23

The relationship dial is turned up a few notches, as Venus and Pluto pair up in your partnership zone On Thursday. Expect extremes from passionate embraces, to dramatic dummyspits. Love definitely won't be lukewarm this week! Singles if you meet someone special, prepare for an intense and powerful connection [that won't be easy to walk away from if things go wrong].

Capricorn December 22 to January 20

The Sun, Mercury, Venus and Pluto are all visiting your sign, so a combination of Capricorn creativity, intelligence and charm will take you far. But, with unpredictable Uranus in your domestic zone, don't be too complacent about your home life. Big changes are heading your way! As Ita Buttrose [born on January 17] reminds us Life has a habit of taking you by surprise.

Leo July 24 to August 23

Leos love to be the center of attention but this week, the focus shifts from you to the significant people in your life. Perhaps it's time for your partner to shine? Putting others first puts a spring in your step, and a smile on your dial. Be extra clear in the way you communicate on the weekend. If you are petulant or pretentious, then relations with relatives will be strained.

Aquarius January 21 to February 19

Are you feeling confused about your financial future? With nebulous Neptune in your cash zone, don't make any major money moves until you have all the facts. Mercury shifts into your sign [from January 19-February 6] when you'll be at your witty and wonderful best. With Mars also in Aquarius, aim to be as informed as possible. Your motto for the moment? Knowledge is power.

Virgo August 24 to September 23

Have you lost your Virgo vim and vigor? Mighty Mars is activating your wellbeing zone so it's time to get motivated, as you cook some healthy meals plus get physical! But don't work yourself into a lather being practical and super organized on the weekend. Mercury moves into avant-garde Aquarius [from January 19-February 6] so drop the strict schedule and be more spontaneous.

Pisces February 20 to March 20

Have you been procrastinating yet again Pisces? If you wait for the 'perfect' time to get things done, then you'll be dithering around forever. Your inspiration for the coming week is from birthday great Martin Luther King The time is always right to do what is right. You'll feel like escaping into a fantasy world on the weekend. Just make sure you don't stay there too long!

Snake hitches a ride with Qantas

You're flying at 25,000ft, enjoying a chilled glass of champagne, when you look to your left and see a 3m python hanging on to the wing for dear life.
It's enough to make you spit out your bubbly. That's what happened on a Qantas jet flying from Cairns to Port Moresby. The plane was around 20 minutes into the flight when a female passenger noticed the poor reptile, believed to be a scrub python, battling to survive in the sub zero temperatures. Passenger Robert Weber said that people at the rear of the plane were totally focused on the snake, and couldn't believe how it had got into its precarious position. ''I felt quite sad for it, really. "For the remainder of the flight, he was trying to pull himself back into the plane, even though he was fighting against 400km/h winds," he said. There was nothing anyone could do for the poor creature, which was being whipped against the engine from the strong winds, creating a blood trail on the plane. The python was dead on arrival when QF191 touched down at Port Moresby just before 8am. A Qantas spokesperson said the snake must have taken refuge on the outside of the aircraft at Cairns Airport overnight before take off.

Armstrong 'confesses' during Oprah interview

An unconfirmed US media report says Lance Armstrong has confessed to talk show host Oprah Winfrey that he used performanceenhancing drugs during his cycling career.
Armstrong recorded the extensive interview this morning, just hours after apologising to staff at his Livestrong Cancer Foundation over his fall from grace. It was Armstrong's first interview since being stripped of his seven Tour de France crowns. Winfrey tweeted: Just wrapped with @lancearmstrong More than 2 1/2 hours . He came READY! News outlet Associated Press reported that a "source familiar with the situation" says Armstrong confessed to doping. Winfrey's OWN network would not confirm or deny the report. " W e are not confirming any specific details regarding t h e interview at this time," a spokesman said. T h e interview will go to air on Friday morning. Armst rong has a l w a y s d e n i e d using drugs and has remained silent since allegations were levelled against him by the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) in October. Cycling commentator Phil Liggett believes the Winfrey interview will likely have yielded some kind of doping admission. "He must have given this an awful lot of thought and he must have felt the net was finally closing in on him, and how was he going to come out reasonably well," Liggett said. "I believe he knows Oprah. "He's appeared on the shows many times and he's recognised that as the medium in which to tell all. "That's what I feel is going to happen." A Livestrong spokeswoman says Armstrong earlier held private talks with staff in which he pledged to help restore the foundation's reputation. "Lance came to the Livestrong Foundation's headquarters today for a private conversation with our staff and

ALL ABOUT BALI

Singaraja, Bali - A Relaxing Slice of Paradise
Singaraja is the old colonial capital of Bali. It is the capital city of the regency of Buleleng.
It is quite simply - cool. Figuratively and literally. I always think of it as much cooler physically than other areas of Bali although I have absolutely no scientific data to back up that assertion. My house is definitely cooler when the wind is blowing in off the ocean but who says we can't be relative. This is the postmodern era, correct? Singaraja is a fairly good-sized city (which is a good way of saying that I'm not sure what the population actually is, although some friends that recently visited told me that according to a guide book it was 50,000) with wide streets and a lot of friendly folks. They have been repairing things in Singaraja over the past few years and it definitely has a clean, open feel to it. The main shopping area is on Jalan Diponegoro and Jalan A. Yani. There is not much here in the way of tourist goods (masks, paintings, jewelry) but you can buy supplies for your stay in the north here juice, boxed milk, diapers, toilet paper, cigarettes and beer much cheaper than if you buy them in the tourist area to the west. Singaraja has a good doctor for expats who charges rather high prices but if you're really sick and you want someone to speak English to then Dr. Gina is your woman. Friendly, good old-fashioned care. What is it that is unique about this place, or what is it that draws me to it? Maybe it's because Singaraja isn't really all that unique - just another friendly town in Indonesia where you can bop around, find some things that you need, meet some fine folks and live your life the way that you want without interference from people that are convinced that they know how you should live your life. The new government has given folks some hope and we all expect them to continue on with repairing the economy and staying out of people's daily activities. The Singaraja area is the home of Lovina Beach, of the well known, but as the new tourist literature proclaims, hidden treasures of Bali. In spite of the fact that my friend has this promotional material sitting in his restaurant, I happen to agree with it. That doesn't mean to come crowding up here. We wouldn't want Robert Redford to bring the Sundance here or to have Californians start building summer homes, but it is nice... Lovina Beach is actually a collection of villages that are lumped together under the general name of Lovina which actually is a village. Other villages in the Lovina area include Kalibukbuk, Anturan, and Tukadmungga. The farther you get from Lovina on the Singaraja side, the quieter things get. While Lovina is laid back compared to Kuta, Kalibukbuk, Anturan and Tukadmungga are positively restful. Of course, it can be a bit too quiet for some staying out in Anturan or Tukadmungga so they can just take a short bemo ride or a three K walk up to Lovina to sample some of the night life. While I have been going on about Lovina, I actually spend most of my time away from home over at Anturan or Tukadmungga. A n u m b e r o f homestays and small hotels have cropped up in the past few years in this area. The old popular hotel after years of being abandoned is now open under new management - it's called Villa Agung. Homestay Sri is still there after a number of years. Homestay Sri is also under new management. This Sri is also being run by foreigners. This is the big thing now in the area. The Westerners have moved in and either bought, built or leased hotels on the beach. There's getting to be less and less Balinese businesses these days. So if you want to actually relax on your vacation to Bali, you should try visiting northern Bali. Plan on spending a week or so to get to know the place. You won't be disappointed.

Legal ramifications Any confession by Armstrong could have legal or financial ramifications, particularly among big-name corporate sponsors such as Nike that had loyally stood by him even as doping allegations grew. Since the International Cycling Union effectively erased him from the record books, Britain's The Sunday Times has sued Armstrong for more than 1 million pounds ($1.52 million) over a libel payment made to him in 2006. It had paid Armstrong 300,000 pounds to settle a libel case after publishing a story suggesting he may have cheated, and now wants that money plus interest and legal costs repaid. On Sunday, the Sunday Times took out an ad in the Chicago Tribune newspaper setting out 10 questions that Winfrey, whose OWN media network is based in the Midwestern metropolis, should ask Armstrong. "Is it your intention to return the prize money you earned from September 1998 to July 2010?" read one question. "Did you sue the Sunday Times to shut us up?" went another. A Texas insurance company has also threatened legal action to recoup millions of dollars in bonuses it paid him for multiple Tour victories. Armstrong's years of dominance in the sport's greatest race raised cycling's profile in the US to new heights.

Gilbert quits as Cricket NSW CEO

David Gilbert has resigned as Cricket New South Wales chief executive, following recent criticism of his performance in the role by veteran paceman Brett Lee. Former Test fast bowler Gilbert, 52, says the time is right for him to step down and that his decision had not been influenced by the "recent commentary". " A f t e r 11 successful years, I am now at the point where I am ready to take on a new challenge," Gilbert said in a statement. "This is not a sudden decision - it is something I have been contemplating over the past 12 months. As far as recent commentary is concerned, it comes with the job and I've never shied away from it. "The simple truth is that I've been in the role for much longer than most sports administrators
could ever dream of." Gilbert will leave his position on January 31. Lee said last month that Cricket New South Wales had "seriously dropped the ball" and

Dad of fake collar bomb victim named ARU chief

Bill Pulver, the father of 2011 hoax collar bomb victim Madeleine, has been announced as the chief executive of the Australian Rugby Union.
Pulver, an experienced Sydney businessman and selfdeclared lover of rugby, succeeds John O'Neill, who stepped down in October. ARU chairman Michael Hawker, a former high school rugby team mate of Pulver, said the new appointee meets all the needs of the job. "We wanted someone with proven commercial success at CEO level, with international business experience and a love of rugby," Hawker said. "The board also set priorities around good communication skills and an understanding of the world of sports marketing and media. "Bill has all those attributes." Hawker highlighted Pulver's roles in sports marketing and media research, as well as his involvement in junior rugby. The 53-year-old began his business career with global marketing research team AC Nielsen. He held management roles with the group in Japan and London before spending six years in New York as president of the listed internet media and research company Net Ratings Inc. NetRatings was bought out by global information and measurement company Nielsen in 2007, for a reported $US820 million, and combined with BuzzMetrics to form Nielsen Online. It is believed Pulver's share options in NetRatings made him a multi-millionaire. Since 2010 he has been chief executive of Appen Butler Hill, a linguistic technology solutions company, where he will finish up at the end of January. Pulver became a nationally recognisable figure when his daughter had a fake collar bomb placed around her neck in August 2011. In November of last year, Paul Douglas Peters was of the collar bomb drama. "They are probably at home watching, licking their lips at what lies ahead. Rugby is a subject we will be happy to talk about." Pulver played with Hawker at Sydney's Shore school and went on to play the game for the University of New South Wales. He had been an administrator and coach at Mosman junior rugby club in Sydney and his son Angus was a member of last year's Australian Schoolboys team.

The following is a myth busting info page covering different songs or bands each week chosen by one of our many loyal readers, Please Enjoy

Little River Band or LRB is an Australian rock band, n formed in Melbourne in early 1975.
The band chose its name after passing a road sign leading to the Victorian township of Little River, near Geelong, on the way to a performance. Little River Band enjoyed sustained commercial success not only in Australia, but also in the United States. They have sold more than 25 million records and achieved 13 U.S. Top 40 hits, besides many music awards gained in Australia. The band's original members were: lead vocals Glenn Shorrock, acoustic guitar and vocals Graham Goble, rhythm guitar and vocals Beeb Birtles, lead guitar Ric Formosa, bass guitar Roger McLachlan, and drums Derek Pellicci. Goble was the only original member born in Australia. The music and lyrics for most of the group's compositions were primarily written by Goble and Shorrock, with contributions from Birtles, Briggs and Pellicci. In May 2001 the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA), as part of its 75th Anniversary celebrations, named "Cool Change", written by Shorrock, as one of the Top 30 Australian songs of all time. The classic line-up of Birtles, Goble, Pellicci, Shorrock, guitarist David Briggs, and bass guitarist George McArdle, were inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame at the 18th Annual ARIA Music Awards of 2004.

Little River Band

Throwing his support behind Deans

The new ARU chief said he will take a consultative approach in his role but already has some firm goals in place. Pulver said he wants to lead the ARU in some urgency in pursuit of world rugby's number one title. New Zealand currently has that title with Australia ranked number three in the world. Pulver backs his former Shore school mate Hawker in support of keeping Robbie Deans in the head coach role in 2013. "Robbie will be coaching the Wallabies right through 2013," Pulver declared. "And then at that point we will consider the coaching positions to take us to the Rugby World Cup in 2015." Pulver also talked about the need to enhance the entertainment appeal of rugby in the Australian market. In that respect he wants to lift the profile of Rugby Sevens and also boost women's rugby.

sce e , combined with his subsequent experience working in music management in Britain and the United States in the early 1970s, allowed him to help Little River Band become the first Australian group to enjoy consistent commercial and chart success in the United States. Fuelled by a very successful Australian hit single "Curiosity Killed the Cat", the band began making promotional visits to the US in September 1976, which resulted in a US hit single, "It's a Long Way There" (edited down from the album track, which ran over 8 minutes long). It broke into the US Top 30 and galvanized the commitment of the band members. It's a Long Way There
Hey everybody yeah, don't you feel that there's something? Feel it, feel it? Hey everybody yeah, don't you feel that there's something? People on their own are getting nowhere, I am on the road to see, If anything is anywhere and waiting, just for me. Everynight I walk around the city. Seems like I'll never know, That feeling of being together when I go. And it's a long way there, it's a long way to where I'm going, And it's a long way there, it's a long way to where I'm going. Hey everybody, don't you feel that there's something, but you know In a moment it is gone. I live for the day when I can hear people saying that they know and They care for everyone But I feel like I've been here for the whole of my life, never knowing Home. It's a long way. It's a long, long, long way there, I'm gonna keep on tryin', I'm gonna keep on tryin', yeah, I'm gonna keep on tryin', I'm gonna keep on tryin', ah! Been away from home for such a long time, And got to know this town, But I don't seem to matter much to anyone, who's around Is there anybody around? Everynight I walk around the city, Seems like I'll never know, The feeling of being together when I go. And it's a long way there, it's a long way to where I'm going, And it's a long way there, it's a long way to where I'm going. Everybody knows it's a long way there, Oh, everybody knows it's a long way there. Mmm, it's a long way Driving around's kind of getting me down and I know, and I know It's a long long way there It's such a long long way, long way Hey everybody yeah, Don't you feel that there's something? Feel it, feel it? Hey everybody yeah,

Early years 1970s

In Australian terms, the original lineup of Little River Band can be considered a super group. Glenn Shorrock had been the lead singer of leading Australian 1960s pop band The Twilights and highly regarded early 1970s country rock band Axiom, alongside Brian Cadd. Beeb Birtles had been the bassist in the popular 1960s band Zoot (which launched the career of singerguitarist Rick Springfield), and Goble had led Adelaide folk rock group Allison Gros before forming the harmony-country-rock band Mississippi (joined by Birtles and Pellici), which had enjoyed some chart success in Australia and built up a strong following on the concert and festival circuit; during 1971-72 the original members also recorded under the studio band pseudonym Drummond, scoring a national #1 hit with a novelty cover of the song "Daddy Cool". LRB found immediate success in Australia, but individual members had greater ambitions. Like other Australian groups of the period, both Axiom and Mississippi had tried to break into the UK record market without success. Axiom disbanded after moving to the UK, and Shorrock sang for a short period with the more progressive rock outfit Esperanto before meeting and joining forces with Birtles, Goble, and Pellicci in 1974. They agreed to meet back in their homeland by early 1975. Remembering the indifferent reaction they had received in the UK, they decided their new band would focus on establishing themselves in the United States. A key factor in their eventual success was a fellow Australian they had met while in England who became their manager, Glenn Wheatley. Wheatley had been the bassist in the highly-regarded Australian rock band The Masters Apprentices and his first-hand experiences of the rip-offs in the 1960s music

sentenced to 13 years and six months for the bomb hoax. When questioned about the impact of that incident at the ARU press conference Pulver did not directly refer to the 2011 drama but said it did not discourage him from returning to the public eye in this high-profile role. "I'm 53 years of age and I've finally decided what I want to do," Pulver said. "I feel this is a civic duty, my love of rugby is so deep." "I'm convinced rugby has an extraordinary future in Australia and I'm looking forward to being part of the team to make it a reality." Pulver added that his family had no reservations about him taking on a public role in the wake

Did Great White kill monster croc?

It could be a case of great white shark one, crocodile nil.
Two people walking along a South African beach were stunned to find the head of a large crocodile washed up on the shore. Neale and Brigitte Cary-Smith are in now doubt that the crocodile came off second best in a fight with a great white shark. Mr Smith quickly filmed the find, explaining in great detail that the crocodile came from a nearby river mouth out into the ocean where it met its match. Others believe the crocodile was killed by poachers. But Mr Smith, in his video, says wounds left by shark teeth can be clearly seen. In the vision, Mr Smith says:

Watson is aiming to return for the one-day series against West Indies starting on February 1, but selectors will face a quandary when they meet to pick the squad for the four-Test series against India starting later that month. With the Sydneysider conceding his body cannot cope with the rigours of medium-pace bowling, the panel must decide whether his record of 2481 Test runs at an average of 37.02 can justify his place in the top six. Mowen to stay Brumbies skipper

Ben Mowen will again lead the ACT Brumbies in this season's Super 15 series ahead of Wallabies David Pocock and Stephen Moore, head coach Jake White said on Thursday.
Pocock, who has captained the Wallabies, joined the Brumbies in the offseason from the Western Force, where he also led the Perth-based Super 15 side. White said number eight Mowen had proven himself to be a valuable leader of the Brumbies. "Ben's proven above and beyond that he is a quality leader and the right man to be captain of this team into the future," White said. There were numerous times through the (last) season that his leadership proved the difference for the Brumbies and it's a pleasure to have him back in the same position for 2013."

British man who threw bottle at Bolt found guilty

A mentally ill British man who shouted abuse at Usain Bolt and threw a beer bottle on the track at the start of the men's Olympic 100 meters final was found guilty of a public order offence.
Ashley Gill-Webb, 34, shouted "Usain I want you to lose, Usain you are bad, you are an arsehole" at the Jamaican sprinter in the minutes before the race on August 5 last year, a key moment of the London Games. A s 80,000 fans in the packed stadium fell silent and all eyes were fixed on the competitors in the starting blocks, GillWebb looked over each shoulder to check no one was looking at him, hid behind a group of spectators and lobbed the bottle at the track, video evidence showed. "I am sure that he was at that point acting rationally and wrongly and that he intended to cause harassment, alarm or distress to the competitors, and accordingly, he is guilty," said judge William Ashworth at Stratford Magistrates' Court in east London, a short distance from the Olympic Stadium. The court had heard that Gill-Webb, who suffers from bipolar disorder, was in the throes of a manic episode at the time. The crux of the legal case was whether, despite his condition, he acted with the intention to cause distress to others. Ashworth found Gill-Webb guilty of a charge of behaving in a threatening and disorderly way "with intent to cause the 100 meters finalists harassment, alarm or distress thereby causing spectators present at the Olympic Park harassment, alarm or distress". He will be sentenced at a later date. The maximum penalty he could face would be six months in jail and a fine. arrested. Bolt did not hear the abuse or see a green plastic beer bottle land behind the starting line, and went on to win the race in 9.63 seconds, the second-fastest time recorded. At the police station later, Gill-Webb handed officers a written statement which he signed "Alan Cumming", the name of a Scottish actor. G i l l - We b b ' s l a w y e r, Rhiannon Crimmins, told the court that he was not in a fit state at the time of these events to make rational decisions or consider the consequences of his actions. "He would not have acted in this way but for his illness," she said in her closing speech. She said that, in his manic frame of mind, he behaved the way he did because it was making him feel good and not because he wanted to cause alarm to those around him. From his perspective, she said, the tirade against Bolt was merely "about being a part of it, about taking the contrary view". Prosecutor Neil King had argued that while Gill-Webb's judgment may have been impaired, it was not absent. King argued that he must have known what he was doing was wrong if he took pains not to be noticed, as shown by the video evidence. But Crimmins said that it was impossible to analyse his behaviour as if he had been acting rationally because in fact he had not.

Gill-Webb did not have a ticket for the 100 meters final but had somehow made his way to an exclusive seating area where he mingled with members of the Dutch Olympic team in orange tracksuits. JUDOKA One of them was judoka Edith Bosch, an Olympic bronze medallist, who testified earlier in the case that Gill-Webb's behaviour was so disruptive that she missed the entire race. Bosch confronted GillWebb after he threw the bottle and blocked him from walking away. He was then restrained by Olympic volunteer workers and
