In the few articles that I have compiled on how to become a good speaker and from here personal experience,

below are the recurring things that a good speaker must have. I tried my best to nuance these things to advocacy speakers.

1. Matter: Know your subject, a good speaker must have thorough knowledge about the
following: a. Their advocacy b. Their Group c. Their Goals d. The Specific project that they are advocating e. Know your audience i. Their experiences ii. Their dispositions in life Must be prepared, this thing must not be taken lightly, if the speaker is properly prepared, half of the work is done. The speech is only a matter of delivery. What are you trying to accomplish? What impact do you want to have on your audience? Are you looking to inform? Inspire? Persuade? Knowing your ultimate purpose and desired outcome will help you stay focused through the preparation process. - OLIVER ADRIA 2. Manner: The way you say it: a. Make it simple and easy to understand b. Go direct to the point c. Be funny if you can, people hate boring speakers but they do love to laugh, be interesting. Humor keeps peoples attention d. Go emotional, appeal to emotion, tell people how your advocacy has direct impact to your audience lives. e. Make eye - contact, this makes a speaker more credible and more believable. f. Make the speech personal. Talk as if you are communicating to them individually. Tell personal Stories, Storytelling puts an audience at ease, humanizes you as a speaker, and makes your messages more memorable. It is the most powerful tool in a speakers toolkit - Susan Tardanico g. Dont be monotonous, if youre passionate, show it. It is important that you can communicate the urgency and importance of your advocacy. Be energetic. h. Be organized: you must have a mental out-line of what your speech. i. Be honest. 3. Confidence: This is not something that can be taught in a day. Practice is the key to achieving confidence and it is the function of the following: a. Preparedness b. Practice c. Passion for what you are doing d. Belief in ones self e.
