Data Table What is a Data Table?

We can define data table as a visual entity that organizes data in the form of rows and columns. The data and information are organized in the data table in such a way that the required information can be easily accessed, and manipulated. It also favors easy analysis of data. It is a most preferred device for information retrieval. Real Life Applications of Data Tables Data tables are widely used in many fields. Here are few of its applications: Data table is used as a tool in web designing. It plays a major role in financial analysis due to its proper organization in grid format, easy accessing facility, arranging data in required order etc. It plays a vital role in softwares related to tax calculation. This is because; using data table favors proper analysis of liabilities and deductions. Data table is an essential part of cost-benefit analysis. Data table is also extensively used in accounting, because change of one data in the data table will change all the related data automatically by applying relevant formula. Parts of a Data Table The different parts or sections of a data table are: The title of the data table. The unit with which the numeric data are measured. The independent variable that can be changed to conduct analysis. The dependent variable or formula that changes whenever the independent variable changes. How to Make a Data Table? We can make a data table in Microsoft Word, or Excel. It can also be created using any backend database systems like Oracle, SQL Server and many others. Here are few steps that have to be followed to create data tables: Every data table will have a unique title. Select an appropriate and specific title for your data table. Decide on the number of rows and columns needed in the data table. Then create the data table. If you are using Microsoft Word, then you have options to draw a data table of necessary size or you can insert a new table into the document by specifying the number of rows and columns. Label the rows and columns with the appropriate name. Fill the data table with the data. If any formula has to be applied on the data table (as in excel), then specify the formula. Types of Data Table

There are two basic types of data table. They are one variable data table and two variable data table. One variable data table is a data table in which the user is allowed to modify only one variable within the formula specified. The one variable data table is also termed as one way table. If you want to modify two different variables in a formula, then you have to use two variable data table.
