SUMMARY RY
Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation (GAIC) is the Nodal Agency for Government of Gujarat to promote agricultural activities at the ground level & foster the development of Agro & Food Processing industries in Gujarat. Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has appointed GAIC as the implementing agency for National Mission on Food Processing (N (NMFP) in the State of Gujarat. As a part of Vibrant Gujarat2013 summit a Knowledge Sharing Workshop on National summit, Knowledge Mission on Food Processing'' was organized by GAIC at The Fern Residency, Rajkot, Gujarat on 10th Jan'2013 in association with FICCI and Frontier Growth Advisors Advi Pvt. Ltd. Objectives The purpose of the conference was to propagate knowledge & understanding amongst the food & agro-processing industry on the NMFP policy guidelines. The processing workshop was for all the stakeholders in the food & agro processing industries to agro-processing be acquainted with the details of the financial assistance being made available under the NMFP scheme. The endeavor of GAIC is to promote investments in the potentially high growth sectors of Agro & Food Processing Sector in Gujarat. Gujarat The effort of GAIC was also to provide a birds eye view of the immense investment C is committed to provide a platform to facilitate such an inclusive development in the sector. Pre-Event Activities The clients applied for the Subsidy under National Mission on Food Processing, lients Processin Agro Industrial Policy & stakeholders involved in Food & Agro Industries were takeholders invited for the Workshop via email, advertisement in newspaper and phone calls. calls. Client Participation A total of 150 delegates attended the workshop. 70 Clients were invited via mail & ates lients phone calls, rest were invited through newspaper advertisement. Presence of the delegates was remarkable considering the short notice given to them to attend the event.

EVENT SESSIONS

All the delegates were registered at the entrance by filling a registration form which was offered free of cost to them. During registration, Stakeholders were provided conference kit containing a brochure on GAIC and a booklet in Gujarati literature on scheme of Technology upgradation, establishment and modernization of Food processing industry under NMFP. The delegates were served tea, coffee and snacks immediately after registration. 2. Inaugural session The session started immediately after arrival of Chief Guest, Shri Govindbhai Patel, Honble Minister of state-Agriculture. Shri N.K.Singh, MD, GAIC welcomed the Agriculture. chief guest. The chief guest inaugurated the workshop by lightening the lamp. The ugurated Chief Guest addressed the audience focusing the need of food processing in the Agri & food value chain and emphasized its importance for the state. Shri N K

1. Registration session

Singh addressed the audience after thanking the chief guest. All the guests were chief provided mementoes as a token of respect and honour. The session ended with vote of thanks given by Shri K. Srinivas, CEO, FGAPL. 3. Workshop session The session started with a detailed address by AGM, GAIC on the schemes of NMFP N and an interaction session with the stakeholders. The other guests Shri Samirbhai Shah, President, Rajkot Chamber of Commerce & Shri Rasikbhai Patel, CEO, Champion Agro addressed the audience as local representatives of the industry and entrepreneurs. The session ended with vote of thanks given by Mr. K. Srinivas. The delegates were served lunch after the session and the specific queries of the delegates were discussed during lunch.

ADDRESS BY THE HON. CHIEF GUEST The workshop was inaugurated by Shri Shr

Govindbhai Patel, Hon. Minister of State, Agriculture, Food & Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs and Forest & Environment, who gave very enriching speech and urged various stakeholders to join the Government efforts to enable development reaching the communities at the nities grassroots. While deliberating on the need for providing remunerative rates to the farmers he urged the entrepreneurs to take up project of processed perishables so as to avoid situation of glut. He laid stress that more Mango processing units are required in Saurashtra, so that units Mango growers are not forced to uproot the Mango trees because of lack of reasonable prices. Singh: MD, GAIC The Managing Director welcomed the Chief Guest and thanked him on behalf of GAIC to grace the occasion on a short notice He highlighted the achievement of the state in the field of Agriculture and Food processing and shown his commitment to take it forward with greater effort and enthusiasm He conveyed that GAIC, as a nodal agency of NMFP wants to achieve the d budgeted allocation of the fund for the year 2012-13 and will be eager to 2012 13 double the allocation for the year 2013 2013-14 He encouraged all the participants to take advantage of the schemes and feel free to reach GAIC for any query, suggestions and feedback ee

2. Mr. Sudhir Dave: AGM, GAIC Mr. Dave thanked MD, GAIC for his deep involvement and commitment to organize the event and his regular follow up on developments on NMFP in the state of Gujarat He described all four schemes of NMFP to the audience in minutest detail and highlighted the eligibility norms of the scheme He answered various queries of the audience and encouraged them to come up with the proposals under these schemes 3. Mr. Samirbhai Shah: President, Rajkot Chamber of Commerce Mr. Shah applauded the efforts of GAIC to organize this workshop on behalf of Rajkot Chamber of Commerce & Industry He appreciated that NMFP schemes will be truly beneficial for the entrepreneurs of Rajkot and Saurashtra and requested GAIC to organize such events on a regular basis 4. INTERACTION WITH STAKEHOLDERS

During the event, prolific discussions cropped up between stakeholders & speakers. speakers Various topics covered throughout the session are mentioned below with various opics suggestions: Reflection on Export of Local Products Production of horticultural crops with high unit value and income flexibility is growing rapidly. A highly integrated, demand led supply system, cold chain demand-led infrastructure, and technical support are necessary to realiz the potential benefits realize of horticultural production for export. The materialization of highly organized and integrated supply chain will open new opportunities in this sector. opp Gujarat is an Export based State; it exports various food products such as Guja Gujarati snacks viz; Khakhra / Thepla / Chakri, coconut chevda, dry chutney, mix dal, papad chavanu, sev mamra, moong dal, masala, dry bhel, chorafari, chana dal, dal mooth, dry garlic chutney, mix chivda, poha chivda. To make these products more reachable worldwide, better Sea route / transport systems must be developed by ldwide, government. Stipulation of Mobile Ripening Chambers Central Government provides subsidies for Ripening Chambers, Pre-cooling, Pre cooling, Grading, and Sorting Centers etc. In the same pattern, Government should also Government provide the subsidy for Mobile Ripening Chambers especially to boost small & marginal farmers. This was a big concern for majority of the Stakeholders present in the workshop.

Suggestion about Mobile ripening chambers was appreciated & Dignitaries from GAIC requested the stakeholders to approach them with such project proposal in future for the financial assistance under National Mission on Food Processing. Knowledge Sharing Routes for Agriculture Automation for Fa Farmers Diploma/ Degree courses should be formed in agriculture & food processing ploma/ f domain with lithe duration of weekly/quarterly/yearly classes in the state. Replacement of an Application from Central Government to State Government If an applicant has submitted the application to MOFPI (Central Government) & Page wants to move back to State Government Scheme, he can write to State Government to know the current status of an application but the application will be processed by Central Government only. State Government (GA will process the (GAIC) new application & applications received after April2012 & before Commercial Production of the unit. Suggestion for the Export Committee During the Workshop at Rajkot a new suggestion was given by one of the stakeholder to make a panel of experts to help the entrepreneurs to select the right projects in terms of design of the unit, equipments, etc. It will help them at various stages from harvesting to processing and will make the units ready to produce as per export standards.
