A Guide for Understanding the Library Program

Include the teacher-librarian in professional development initiatives Support a flexible schedule that allows for collaboration Encourage collaboration Include information about the library in the school newsletter Discuss with the teacher-librarian the goals and visions for the library Promote technology Promote reading and literacy Consider the library budget. Speak to the teacher-librarian about the needs of the library program. Flexible time for collaborative planning increases test scores. A properly staffed library with rich resources can make a measureable difference in student achievement. The library is best integrated into the school instructional program. One of the most important factors for seamless student access to school library services is the active support of the school principal.
Scores rise when teacher- librarians spend more time training teachers in information access.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Teacher-Librarian at Westerman
