elta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. A sisterhood of more than 200,000 predominately Black college educated women, the Sorority currently has over 900 chapters located in the United States, England, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas and the Republic of Korea. The major programs of the sorority are based upon the organizations Five Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development Educational Development International Awareness and Involvement Physical and Mental Health Political Awareness and Involvement The Sorority was founded in 1913 by 22 students at Howard University. These young women wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence; to provide scholarships; to provide support to the underserved; educate and stimulate participation in the establishment of positive public policy; and to highlight issues and provide solutions for problems in their communities. PROGRAMS Dining with the Divas


Dining with the Divas is an annual event held to support the cause of the American Cancer Society. Tickets are sold to students and the surrounding community to enjoy a meal prepared by Iota Pi members around the time of Thanksgiving. We fellowship with our peers, while discussing the importance of giving thanks. A portion of the proceeds are donated to the charity.

Iota Pi City-Wide Chapter


he Iota Pi City-Wide Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered on November 10, 1972 on the campuses of Barry University, Florida International University, Florida Metropolitan University, Johnson & Wales University and the University of Miami by 10 courageous women. GORDON LAYUNICE SWANSON ELOISE AVERY TAYLOR DELORES DERICA WEBSTER BARBARA ANN WOODEN PHYLLIS LEON YOUNG Today, Iota Pi is currently active on the campuses of Florida International University and Johnson & Wales University in Miami, Florida. There are 14 members active, approximately 86% of which are registered voters. Iota Pi contiunes to uphold the traditions and ideals of its founders and charter members, while excelling academically and uplifting the students of its campuses.

Being Open On Breast Issues, Education and Salvation This annual event is a forum held to inform individuals of the importance of regular doctor check-ups, how to check yourself for breast cancer, educational information about the severity of the disease and ways to help those effected by breast cancer.

Peppermint Social
This annual event is a formal forum held for new and returning students to come together and discuss pressing issues of our generation. This includes debates about politics and the government, opinions about campus activities, as well as a time to fellowship and meet new peers.

The Southern Region consists of the Bahamas, and the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
