2.14 Replacing the Surge Protector of the Satellite Antenna System

This describes how to replace the faulty surge protector of the BTS satellite antenna system. The surge protector of the satellite antenna system provides surge protection for GPS clock signals entering the BTS. If the faulty surge protector is replaced within a short period, GPS clock signals are disrupted for a moment, but services of the BTS are not affected.

Prerequisite
The following tools and materials are available: the ESD wrist strap or gloves, Phillips screwdriver, adjustable wrench, and the ESD box or bag.

Context
The surge protector can effectively discharge the ultra-high voltage and current in the GPS feeders caused by lightning. If any faulty surge protector is replaced within a short period, the GPS clock signals of the BTS are interrupted, but the services of the BTS are not interrupted.

Procedure
Step 1 Remove the faulty surge protector. 1. 2. 3. Label the cables that are connected to the ports of the surge protector, and then remove the cables. Unscrew the surge protector and then remove it. Place the removed surge protector in an ESD box/bag.

Step 2 Install a new surge protector. 1. 2. 3. Take the new surge protector out of the ESD box. Ensure that the new surge protector is not damaged and that the types of the new and the removed surge protectors are the same. Install the new surge protector in the position where the faulty surge protector is located. According to the labels, insert the cables into the ports of the new surge protector.

Step 3 Ensure that the new surge protector functions properly. Check whether the new surge protector functions properly through the following methods: l Run the DSP CBTSBRDSPECSTAT command to check whether more than four satellites are locked. l Alarms related to the satellite block are not generated on the Alarm Management System. ----End

Follow-up Procedure
After the replacement, do as follows: 1.
