JOHNSBURY ATHENAEUM ANNOUNCES SHARA MCCAFFREY AS LIBRARIAN St. Johnsbury, Vermont St. Johnsbury Athenaeum Executive Director, Matthew Powers and the Board of Trustees are pleased to announce Shara McCaffrey as full-time Librarian. McCaffrey joined the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum as Assistant Librarian in 2001. She has supported the implementation of several innovative library services including the introduction of the new VOKAL open-source integrated library circulation system. VOKAL (Vermont Organization of Koha Automated Libraries) brought together 30 libraries within the Green Mountain Library Consortium to provide patrons an expanded and web-based circulation accessible 24 hours a day via the internet. My years of prior service and devotion to the Athenaeum as well as my professional knowledge and skills can greatly benefit this great community resource, says McCaffrey. The Athenaeum is a treasured institution, revered for its beautiful architecture, unique history, renowned art collection and multifaceted collection. To this I offer my years of experience in team building and participation and providing both traditional and innovative library services. She holds a Certificate in Public Librarianship from the Vermont Department of Libraries. In addition to her work with the Athenaeum, she has shared her experience in research and archives with other community organizations including the St. Johnsbury History and Heritage Center. She was part of a team for a significant project to catalog the archives for the Athenaeum, St. Johnsbury Academy and the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium. She has also served as a Senior Capstone mentor for the Academy. Shara brings extensive experience from all departments of the Athenaeum. She has served on the library, building, and collections committee. As a long-time employee with the Athenaeum, she has played a role in many library and capital projects completed during the past decade. Her knowledge of the library in combination with her knowledge of the overall collection is very important, states Matthew Powers, Executive Director. I am looking forward to working with Shara and our new Library Services Team to enrich the Athenaeum experience for our patrons, donors, visitors and friends. In her new role as Librarian, McCaffrey will be responsible for working with a team to evaluate and enhance the programs and services in the library. This team brings skills and experience in providing traditional library services and working knowledge of current and emerging library media and technology.
