Abstract

This document shows the verification of the CTs and CVTs used at the 132 kV level in 132/33/11 kV AIS substations (New Erbil, Erbil West, Khabat and Faeda). CT calculations have been carried out under the conservative assumptions of a short circuit current Isc-3p h = 40 kA, Isc-phe = 26.7 kA (assumption X0/X1=2.5) at the 132 kV Khabat busbar and a Isc at zone1 equal to 15 kA. The maximum cable length from CT to control building is assumed to be 190 m (OH-line), 180 m (transformer bay) and 195 m bus coupler bay. Conclusions: 1 The chosen CT-cores fulfill the requirements for appropriate measurement and relay protection. 2 4 mm cables have to be used for all CT cores except 2 - OH-line bays core 2 for distance protection (REL670) where 10 mm has to be used. - Transformer bay core 2 for transformer differential protection (RET670)in New Erbil where 10 mm2 has to be used 2.5 mm cables have to be used for all CVT connections. In order to keep the voltage drop below 0.5%, the burden on each secondary CVT-feeder should be lower than 10 VA. The actual burden will be probably only a few VA. Recommended rating of MCB for CVTs is In = 3 A and Z-characteristic.

Introduction

This report documents the verification of CTs and CVTs for the 132 kV AIS switchgear in the Air Insulated Substations (AIS): New Erbil, Erbil West, Khabat and Faeda. The verifications in this report are based on an assumed short-circuit level at the busbar of 40kA and some conservative assumptions. The calculations are based on the load data from protection and metering equipment, were available, supplied under this contract. For each current transformer the worst case is selected i.e. the requirements from the equipment with the highest demands are used and the cable distance to the transformer furthest of the control room is used. Technical preconditions Short circuit currents

The 132 kV substation busbars is dimensioned for 40 kA, 1 second and it is effectively earthed. As no information is available of the actual short circuit current in the substation a conservative dimensioning is made by assuming Isc-3p h = 40 kA and Isc-p he = 26.7 kA at the 132 kV busbar (time constant Tp<=50 ms and Z 0net /Z 1net = 2.5). It is assumed that all overhead lines contribute equal to the short circuit current. The most conservative estimate for short circuit current just outside the substation will be for the substation with most overhead lines connected (i.e. Khabat S/S with 8 overhead lines). For Khabat the contribution of each line is thus assumed to be equal to 40 kA/8 = 5 kA. This means that for a 3 phase fault at one OH line just outside the breaker the substation contribute with Isc-3p h = 40 5 = 35 kA and for a single phase fault Isc-phe = 23.4 kA. The shortest 132 kV OH-line is assumed to have a line length of 10 km and Z1 = Z2 = 0.1 + j0.4 Ohm/km and Z 0line=3Z1line . For fault at 80% line length the substation contribute with fault currents Isc-3p h< 12.3 kA and Isc-p he < 8.2 kA. 3.2 CT-VT cable length

In the table below the length of the cables between CT and Relay/Control panels are listed. CT verification

The current transformers are designed according to IEC 60144-1. All cable burdens are calculated at Isn = 5A. All resistance values on transformer windings and cables are valid at 75 C. The calculations are carried out for the highest tap. 2 2 Dependent on the situation, cable types of either 4*4 mm or 4*10 mm will be used. 4.1 Incoming OHL bays

Core 1: Metering CT core type: 1200-600/5 A; 30 VA; class 0.5, Fs<5 The loads for metering will be almost zero. Thus the main CT burden will be the CT-cable (70 190 m cable 2 of type 4*4 mm ). This will result in a burden of 9.6 26.1 VA. 2 Conclusion: The CT fulfills the requirements for metering with CT-cable of type 4*4mm .
