(St.

Augustine Church, Barberton, OH) (January 27, 2013)

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jesus announces in Lukes gospel that he comes to proclaim liberty to captives and announce a year of favor for the Lord. Far too many families are held captive and victimized by domestic violence. One third of all women have experienced abuse. Families need not live in fear! There is help for victims and abusers. Break the silence and call for help. Living Faith in January: Luke 1:1-4; 4:14-21

Indeed, many Christians dedicate their lives with love to those who are lonely, marginalized or excluded, as to those who are the first with ta claim on our attention and the most important for us to support, because it is in them that the reflection of Christs own face is seen (PF 14)
320 Holy Hours were kept before the Blessed Sacrament this past week. Jesus chose this very special way to remain here with us. It was not just an empty promise when Jesus said, "I will be with you all days, even to the end of the world". He meant that! Jesus remains here with us today in the Mass as our Savior, in Holy Communion, as our spiritual food and in our tabernacle as our friend. Jesus died on the cross to give us this sacrament of His presence among us. This is the sacrament of Jesus' love for us. Can you give Jesus one hour a week? Please call Judy Soltis at 330-212-0926. (Insert Graphic 1401-0006.tif) My Dear Parishioners: Due to the extraordinary number of local requests to our St. Vincent de Paul Society this year, rather than a Lenten Alms giving for Heifer International, our Lenten Alms giving will go toward the support of our St. Vincent de Paul Society. One hundred percent of your donation will go toward the aid of the poor in the Barberton and Norton area. I am setting a goal of $5,000, the same amount as an Ark for Heifer International. I ask that you please be generous in helping us reach our goal for the benefit of St. Vincent de Paul and the poor of Barberton and Norton. We will begin our collection on Ash Wednesday, February 13. Christs Peace! Fr. David Majikas (Insert Graphic 2407-0088.tif) Sign-Ups for CYO VOLLEYBALL (grades 3-12) and TRACK (grades 3-8) will be today Sunday, January 27, from 9-10:30am in the school. The volleyball fee is $80.00 and the track fee is $50.00. If you did not play a CYO sport this year, you must have a physical dated after June 1, 2012. Registration forms are available outside the school office. If you are interested in coaching, please let us know at sign-up. Please call St. Augustine School at 330-753-6435 with any questions.

How does your faith community reveal the Spirit of the Lord to those who are outsiders? How do you live the teachings of Jesus to bring glad tidings to the poor? How are you and your faith community in solidarity with the entire Body of Christ around the world?

Your words, O Lord, are Spirit and life. (Ps 19)

FEBRUARY 27 LENT 2013 BUS TRIP: Our trip this year includes stops at St. Bridget of Kildare

The cost of $16 (!) includes the bus, driver's tip, snack, and stipends to the churches visited. NOTE: Lunch is not included in the cost. (Insert Graphic 2404-0207.tif) Lets take another spin on the Funeral Luncheon Program. Since putting the ad in the bulletin two weeks ago, there has not been one call regarding assistance with this very special/needed ministry at St. Augustine. Providing luncheons for grieving families is a loving work of mercy. Covered dishes can be as simple as a bag of salad and dressing, rolls, a can of green beans, macaroni and cheese or as complex as your favorite homemade recipe. When all the dishes come together, we, the parishioners of St. Augustine, have provided a beautiful, enjoyable meal for the grieving family to share. Please consider becoming a part of this special ministry. Without you, this cannot be accomplished. If you are interested, contact the rectory at 330-745-0011. Meals are provided on a rotating basis, depending on the number of funerals we have a week/month.
