ANSWER KEY I. If the statement is correct write TRUE. Otherwise, write FALSE. [1 pt. each] 1. FALSE 2. FALSE 3. TRUE 4. TRUE II. Do as indicated 1. Consider () = sin 2. a. Justify why Rolles Theorem applies to on [0, 2 ]. [2 pts.] is continuous on [0, 2 ].

is differentiable on (0, 2 ). (0) = ( ) = 0 2 Hence, Rolles Theorem can be applied!!!

b. Find in (0, 2 ) such that the tangent line to the graph of at = is horizontal. [2 pts.] Since Rolles Theorem can be applied, there exists (0, 2 ) such that () = 0. That is, () = 2 cos 2 () = 2 cos 2 = 0 =

( 1)2 ; < 3 2. Let () = { . 5 + 19; 3 i. Justify why has absolute extreme values in the interval [0,4]. [2 pts.] has absolute extreme values in the interval [0,4] because: - is continuous on [0,4]. Proof: The only possible point of discontinuity of the function is at = 3. (3) = 5(3) + 19 = 15 + 19 = 4 lim ( 1)2 = 4 lim 5 + 19 = 4 +
3 3

lim () = 4

(3) = lim () Therefore, is continuous at = 3. The function is continuous at all .

By the Extreme Value Theorem, which states that if is continuous on the closed interval [, ], then it has absolute maximum and minimum values.

ii. Find the absolute maximum and minimum values of in [0,4]. [4 pts.] ( 1)2 , < 3 () = { 5 + 19, 3 2( 1), < 3 () = { 5, > 3 C. N. : = 1,3 @ = 1 2, < 3 () = { 0, > 3 (1) =2>0 Therefore, = 1 is a relative minimum. @ = 3 (3) = lim 2( 1) = 2(3 1) = 4
+ (3) = lim 5 = 5 + (3) + (3) Therefore, (3) = d. n. e. 3 () + d.n.e I rm D Therefore, = 3 is a relative minimum. 3 3

Using the comparison method, (0) = 1 (1) = 0; rel. min. (3) = 4; rel. min; abs max. (4) = 1; abs. min. Therefore, has an absolute maximum at = and an absolute minimum at = . III. Given

Note that the change in the concavity of the curve must be smooth since (2) = 0.

IV. A farmer wishes to plot five different crops in a rectangular portion of his field. He estimates that he needs 3000 square yards to plant the crops. Aside from fencing the boundary of the rectangular plot, he wants to put four parallel divisions within the plot to separate each crop. What dimensions of the rectangular plot will allow the farmer to use the minimum amount of fencing material? [5 pts.] There are four solutions in this problem but I will just be using my solution. Magegets niyo naman na siguro kung ano yung isa eh. That is, if yung na ginamit niyo ay yung isang column lamang at hindi yung buo. And yung other two ay kung y naman ang hahanapin ninyo. As long as tama yung sagot, eh di keribels! Yung flow ng problem solving ditto ay yung tinuro sa amin ni Maam Evidente. It is very organized pero the flow of problem solving will still depend sa inyong discussion teacher.

Given: = 3000 square yards = = 2 + 6; We need to minimize this! 3000 18000 () = 2 + 6 ( ) = 2 + on (0, +) is continuous on the given interval.

() = 2 18000 =2 2

18000 ; equate to 0 2

= 3010 yards

() =

36000 3

(3010) > 0. rel. min.

\\The most crucial part is this one! *Since has a relative minimum at = 3010 on (0, +) and it is the only relative extrema on the interval, then has an absolute minimum at = 3010.

= 3010 yards = 1010 yards

*The dimensions of the rectangular plot that will allow the farmer to use the minimum amount of fencing material are = 3010 yards and = 1010 yards. V. Do as indicated. 1. Given a function (), the graph of its derivative () is drawn below. [1 pt. each] i. Find the value of at which has a relative minimum. 1 -1 0 1 2 () + 0 d.n.e. 0 + d.n.e. + () I M D n D m I n I has a relative minimum at = . ii. Find (3) () for (1, +). () for (1, +) is 3. () for (1, +) is 0. () for (1, +) is 0

2. Suppose [sin(())] < 0 and () (,

3 2

) for all . Show that is an

increasing function. [1 pt.] I am not really sure with my answer here and I doubted to answer this question already because medyo nahirapan talaga ako nung exam. But I just played with it and put everything necessary (pero feeling ko pa rin ay napaka-unnecessary) and fortunately, I was able to get a whole point point!!! Maybe, you should consult more math geeks here for greater enlightenment of this part pero of course naman, I got it right and so my answer should be right. Until the time na ineencode ko itong answer ko here, Im not really convinced with my answer yet. Haaaays!? Math, y u so hard!!!! Kung sino man ang nakakuha ng sagot dito, maaari po bang pakishare. =))) [sin(())] = cos [()] () < 0 () cos[()] cos[()] () + 3 2

cos[()] assumes negative values on (,

3 2

) and cos[()] () is less

than zero. For [sin(())] to be negative, () must be positive, as shown in the table of signs above. () () + I 3 2

* is an increasing function. Yey!

Additional Notes: One thing that is very irritating in this examination is that it is very, very long especially the proving parts and of course, the graphing part. You need to memorize a lot of theorems here and practice graphing. One hassle part also is the problem solving. Kaloka!? May proving na nga, may graphing pa at may problem solving pa. At dinagdagan pa ng true or false. Kaloka talaga itong exam na ito. Medyo nag-panic ako dito sa exam na ito and sobrang na-pressure kasi nga perfect ko iyong last two exams and ako yung taong madaling ma-disappoint especially if medyo hindi ko nakuha yung gusto ko. So, I learned na relax ka lamang na wala naman nakalagay sa instructions na you need to perfect the exam eh, sabi lamang naman ay answer them in an organized manner, so yun lamang gawin mo. So here, all you need again is just to practice and practice. It is quite hard kasi super daming lessons and applications and other stuff na aaralin and you do not know kung ano yung lalabas sa exam pero maswerte kayo that you already have a samplex like this one with answers and complete solution, encoded pa!? And dito rin kasi, nagka-laptop na ako and super naging BI siya sa akin. I remembered that time na hindi ako nag-review sa exam na ito. I was just surfing on the internet unlike yung last two exams na wala pa akong laptop so parang pastime ko yung mag-solve ng problems so bonggang-bongga ako every exam time na. Pero super naloka talaga ako the next day. May true or false, eh hindi ko pa naman din binasa yung module and hindi nga ako nag-review so wala talagang practice. Kaloka talaga!? So yun lesson learned, dapat mag-practice. This is Math. Kakaiba siya compared to other subjects na all you need is just to memorize and memorize. Dito, kailangan ng practice and deep understanding of the concepts para kahit pagbalibaliktarin pa yung question, masasagot ninyo. So yun, kaloka din ang score for the 3rd LE pero abangan niyo na lamang kung ano ang mangyayari sa 4th LE ko. So, thats it. Good luck sa inyong lahat and I hope that this will help you a lot and maging inspired sa aking weird pero super fun na Math53 story. =)
