Learning Outcomes
This unit will develop learners ability to stage a musical event or series of musical events (tour). By evaluating the process involved in staging a musical event and applying the required skills to an area of their own interest learners will develop strategies for event management and promotion in a variety of areas.

Scenario

One of the biggest remaining sectors in the music industry is the live performance arena. In this part of the industry the job market is booming for people with experience in events management. You will set up a production company within your group consisting of all the vital roles for effective management of a smallscale concert. First you must find the vital roles in events management and show a comprehensive understanding of each role including the tasks they may carry out and the hierarchy (task 1), then split into teams of two or three who will then take a role per group and work towards organising an event. Your production company has been given their first job; putting on the end of term concert for local music academy play something ltd. (task 2) To do this you must include detailed plans for your event from each team within your company. Everything from channel lists, lighting plans to promotion and financial structures/costing (task 3) Finally like any good business you must evaluate how successful the event was, talk about the ways in which you excelled and then reflect on what could have been improved in hindsight.
