FARM
Broad Spectrum test. Tests such as Delvotest SP NT or Delvotest T are capable of detecting all antibiotics in the milk in 2h30min to 3hours. Fast tests for -lactams. Tests such as Delvotest BLF are capable of detecting all antibiotics from the -lactam family in 5 minutes.

FARM
Farms will be fined if antibiotics are detected.

Tank sample is taken by the truck and sent to the lab

DAIRY

Laboratory >1,000 samples/day

Strong collaboration between Lab and Dairy. The Dairy organises and pays for the testing of the milk samples.

Good milk quality starts at the farm. Farmers are responsible for the delivery of good milk (price increases with quality).

Fast test and broad spectrum tests

The problem
Broad Spectrum test. Tests such as Delvotest SP NT or Delvotest T are capable of detecting all antibiotics in milk in 2h30min to 3hours.

STOP CONTROL

Based on Bacillus bacteria Sensitivity depends on the way antibiotics acts on the Bacillus.

STOP CONTROL

Fast tests for -lactams. Tests such as Delvotest BLF are capable of detecting all antibiotics from the -lactam family in 5 minutes.

Based on affinity of antibody or in general proteins with the antibiotic Sensitivity depends on the selectivity of the binding molecule to the antibiotics.

Those are different targets with different affinity for antibiotics different sensitivity profiles

Delvotest Step by Step

Read the test. POS or NEG depending on colors (POS=Not good milk, NEG=Good milk) Incubate: the bacteria in the agar gel will grow if no antibiotics in the milk Take representative sample Cut of or remove ampoules from tray (!DO NOT DAMAGE OTHER PLATES or AMPOULES FOIL, if damaged, will be false positive!) Make a hole (Not necessary to remove foil for ampoules) Pipette milk (the correct volume of milk is the one in the pipette tube, not its tank)

Add the milk to the test The antibiotics is any will diffuse in the agar gel

Principle of Delvotest

Penicillin 4 POSITIVE RESULT Antibiotic free Sulfadiazine 100

NEGATIVE RESULT Color Time

Control Time

Control time versus fix reading time

Penicillin 4 POSITIVE RESULT Antibiotic free Sulfadiazine 100

NEGATIVE RESULT Color Time Fix time Test less sensitive than at control time If incubation time increases, the test sensitivity decreases

Delvotest: Storage and Sampling

Good practice in storage/handling

The test is sensitive to LIGHT. Store in the DARK (in original packaging). The test is sensitive to TEMPERATURE. Store 4-8C (in original packaging). Place ampoules in fridge directly after cutting out the required number. Test should not freeze even partially. (creates milk runners and/or false positive, test can also become liquid) Up to 4 days, test can be transported at max 30C. The test is sensitive to AIR. Test where foil is removed can dry. (False positive / dried test) What if not stored correctly? Spores DIE (when freezing, agar gel looses structure) Test becomes slower and more sensitive False positives
