TO WHOM SHOULD I RECOMMEND INDIVIDUAL TANNING?
Basically, you can recommend
individual tanning to any customer
because the sunbed "identifies" how
much UV-Power the skin can tolerate
and always finds the right setting for
a perfect tan.
Whether newcomers, seasonal users
or regulars: each and every client
receives a tailored tan, geared to the
UV sensitivity of the individual's own
particular skin. From head to toe.
Naturally all sunbeds equipped with
individual tanning capability can be
configured at any time at the
customer’s wish to receive a normal
tan.
To do this, just leave the sensor in the
station and press the "Start" button
twice. The Voice Guide now tells the
user that the sunbed will provide
maximum tanning power for the
entire exposure duration. "Paying
extra" at the token box etc. also
means that tanning session can be
extended in the "normal mode".
Note: Children and young people
under 18 and customers who do
not tan well in natural sunlight,
should generally not use sunbeds.
This also applies to those customers
with skin type I.
If a person is taking medicines,
they should consult a doctor before
using the sunbed.

The selling point to use for all of
your customers, no matter whether
they are newcomers or regulars:
"Individual tanning is always the right
choice. Thanks to the "Intelligent
Power System" and the "Automatic

amazed."

HOW DOES INDIVIDUAL TANNING WORK?
➔ STEP ONE...
Step one: The first measurement to
control output in the facial zone is
performed on the forehead. An
acoustic signal confirms successful
measurement.
Step two: The second measurement
for controlling lamp output in the
body zone is carried out at the palest
part of the body to be included in the
tanning regime, e.g. the buttocks or

insides of the arms. The reason for
using the palest part is to prevent any
"overdosing" when the system
computes the tanning programme. It
is important for the areas measured
to be included in the tanning regime,
they must also be free from cosmetics
or lotion. All varieties of self-tanning
product can have an impact on the
measurement results. Persons with a
lot of body hair should always

measure a hair-free part of the body
to avoid incorrect measurements. The
Intelligent Power System or Automatic
Power System now just takes a few
seconds to compute a personalised
tanning programme from the
measurement readings. The sunbed
now starts automatically or after
pressing the "Start" button.
DIM THE POWER:
The individual UV dose is
determined by the Intelligent
Power System, which controls the
dimming of the UV lamps.
SWITCH THE POWER:
The Automatic Power System
achieves an individual UV dose by
switching off individual UV sources.
➔ MAINTENANCE
HOW DO YOU CLEAN AND MAINTAIN IQ SUNBEDS?
Sensor and base station:
After use, always disinfect with
Antifect® or another alcohol-free
disinfectant. Please make sure that
there is no lint or grease on the
sensor's measuring window or on the
locating surface in the base station.
Filter panels:
To clean the sensitive filter panels
ideally use a cloth soaked in clean
water.
Acrylic glass surfaces:
Do not rub them dry – this may cause
scratches. It is best to use the specially
developed, fast-acting disinfectant
cleaner Antifect®. Other cleaning
products are not to be used,
especially concentrated disinfectants
or solvents, e.g. Lysoform, ethyl
alcohol or other alcohol-based liquids.
Plastic surfaces:
These are best cleaned simply with
warm water and a window leather.
Never use aggressive, alcohol-based
cleaning products, such as Sagrotan.
When cleaning, expect to see black
marks on the window leather due to
the rubber seals. These are from the
rubber seals and unavoidable for
production reasons.
 HOW DO YOU SERVICE IQ SUNBEDS?
Plausibility check
The IQ-Sensor is a highly sensitive,
photoelectronic precision measuring
instrument that is capable of
analysing an individual's UV sensitivity
accurately and reliably. Proper
operation and measurement accuracy
are therefore automatically verified in
a so-called plausibility check that
takes place after each measurement
cycle. Each time the IQ-Sensor is
placed in the station, an automatic
balance takes place between sensor
and base station. As the IQ-Sensor is
highly sensitive, even slight amounts
of soiling may result in the Voice
Guide prompting you to clean the
system. The sensor window and the
base station should then be cleaned
again and replaced inside the station.
04 MAINTENANCE
Calibration
It is recommended to calibrate the
IQ-Sensor after it has been in use for
approx. 30 days. To do this, the
cleaned IQ-Sensor must be calibrated
on the reference surface provided in
the operating instructions (last page).
Please follow the operating
instructions given by the Voice Guide.
Note: After calibration, return the
sensor to the base station without
applying pressure (in the same way
as you would after taking a
reading) for the necessary
plausibility check to be performed.
Possible fault messages
E 120 – Sensor missing
There is either a fault in the
connection between sensor and base
station or the sensor has not been
activated through the service PC.
E 121 – Start calibration in preset
mode
After selecting function "30" in the
preset mode as described in the
operating instructions, follow the
prompting given by the Voice Guide
and press the IQ-Sensor on the
reference surface until you hear an
acknowledgement signal. Check that
calibration has taken place by
removing and returning the IQ-Sensor
to the station several times. If the
calibration was successful, you will
hear the IQ start message "You have
selected the automatic mode".
Unsuccessful calibration is shown by
the message: "Plausibility check
failed". Please re-clean the IQ-Sensor
and check it for damage. Re-initiate
calibration and/or inform Customer
Service.
E 122 – Calibration unsuccessful
It is possible that the sensor window is
dirty or damaged. Alternatively, an
unsuitable reference surface was used
or it is dirty or damaged. It is possible
that the sensor is faulty.
E 123 – Plausibility check failed
The sensor window and/or base
station may be soiled and/or faulty.
The sensor may have to be calibrated
or it is faulty.
Tip: It often helps to clean the
system several times or re-calibrate
it. The Voice Guide confirms a
successful plausibility check!
E 124 – Data communication
interference or data missing
in sensor
The base station and/or sensor may
not be properly connected. The sensor
may be faulty.

ANY MORE QUESTIONS?
What happens if a client measures
the darkest area twice (e.g. the
face), and reddening is caused on
the body?
Point out to your client that the first
measurement is responsible for
controlling the facial tanner output
and the second measurement
determines output from the low-
pressure lamps in the body zone.
Therefore, measurements must not be
confused or performed twice at the
same point as this will result in the
wrong dosage being calculated.
How does the sensor know it is in
the station?
The base station contains a magnet
that is recognised by the sensor.
A centring pin in the base station
ensures optimum positioning.
Does the sensor measure the skin
and then classify it as one of the 4
familiar skin types?
No, it measures an individual's own
particular skin sensitivity, which
means it is much more accurate.
Theoretically, it can identify an infinite
number of different skin types,
enabling it to calculate the level of
tanning power suitable for the
individual concerned.
What happens if I take the sensor
from the station while tanning is in
progress?
Nothing, because it doesn't work
while tanning is in progress.
Can the sensor also tell whether I
tanned yesterday?
The sensor identifies changes in the
skin and, if necessary, calculates a
lower dosage. Refer to "Can the
sensor recognise sunburn?".
Can the sensor recognise sunburn?
Yes and no. The sensor identifies UV
sensitivity of the skin, enabling it to
calculate an appropriate lower
dosage.
If a person has been sunbathing twice
within a 24-hour period (sunbed or
natural sun), he or she may receive a
lower dosage for the second tanning
session. This means the sensor has
identified skin "reddening" which
need not necessarily be visible.
What is the advantage of individual
tanning?
• Separate dosage calculation for face
and body as UV sensitivity of the
face usually differs from that of the
body.
• Any additional skin type analysis
(based on the classic criteria, such
as eye or hair colour, freckles etc.) is
not necessary.
• Current skin sensitivity is measured
before each tanning session, with
power output being defined
accordingly.
• The 10-20 minute preset gives the
client sufficient time to relax.
• No complicated calibration of
measuring station and sunbed.
• Measurement readings are taken
quickly.
 Does this system mean an end to
the need for advice and guidance
in the tanning salon?
No, because attention must be drawn
to the following criteria:
• Children and young people under 18
and those people with skin type I
should generally not use a sunbed
• Medication, as many non-
prescription medicines may already
be phototoxic in nature
• Sunburn
Is it possible to alter the way in
which shoulder and neck tanner
lamps shut down while tanning?
No. You can only deactivate or
reactivate the shoulder tanner while
tanning. However, only at the output
level calculated for the user
concerned.
Can the facial tanners be turned up
manually while tanning?
No. The facial tanner button can,

however, be used to reduce power or
switch the facial tanner off while
tanning. The facial tanners can only
ever be switched on or turned up as
far as the output level initially
calculated.
Is facial tanner output sometimes
reduced automatically while
tanning?
Yes, the sunbed starts at the highest
dosage determined on the basis of
the first measurement reading that is
taken on the face. Power output may
be reduced during the tanning
session. The Voice Guide informs the
user of any adjustment in advance.
Do individual low-pressure lamps
sometimes switch off automatically
while tanning?
Yes. After a warm-up period of about
2 minutes, during which all low-
pressure lamps are switched on, if
people have very pale skin or if the
tanning lamps are new, a row of
lamps may switch off automatically.
Do individual low-pressure lamps in
the shoulder or neck tanner
sometimes switch off automatically
while tanning?
Yes, the sunbed starts at the highest
dosage determined on the basis of
the second measurement (on the
body). Power output may be reduced
in the course of a tanning session.
The Voice Guide informs the user of
any adjustment in advance.
Does striping occur on the body
when only some of the low-
pressure lamps are switched off?
No, because lamp geometry and lamp
spacing from the body have been
selected in such a way that striping
will not occur.
Do the Automatic and Intelligent
Power System sunbeds feature a
chip card?
Yes, but note that the chip card needs
to be replaced after each time the
lamps are changed.
Why do the low-pressure lamps last
longer when fair-skinned clients
use the sunbed on a frequent
basis?
This is because for some users the
sunbed only activates every second
low-pressure lamp, halving the
number of lamp operating hours. The
other half of the low-pressure lamps is
then activated during the next tanning
session.
How does the sunbed control
tanning power from the low-
pressure lamps?
The Intelligent Power System makes
possible power adjustments in the
range 120 - 180 watts by means of

electronic ballast equipment. The
Automatic Power System controls the
power adjustment by individually
switching UV lamps on and off. The
power is adapted in this case by
adjusting the length of the tanning
time.
What happens when sensor
calibration is overdue?
The sunbed shows fault E121. It is not
ready for operation. Either calibrate
the sensor or, if calibration is not
possible for technical reasons, switch
the sunbed over to "normal
operation" in the preset mode (see
operating instructions). The sensor is
then non-functional.
What happens if the sensor is
stolen?
An alarm occurs.
Is it possible to repair individual
sensor or base station components?
No, individual parts of the measuring
system cannot be repaired for safety
reasons. The sensor or base station
must be completely replaced.
What is "Intelligent Climatronic"?
If some lamps turn off after the
warm-up phase for the low-pressure
lamps, "Intelligent Climatronic"
automatically raises the preset
temperature by 4°C. If room
temperature is below 20°C, the start
temperature is automatically raised by
2°C. Equipment types with Air
Condition can only be operated
manually.
Why is a fixed tanning period of
15 minutes preset for both the
Intelligent and Automatic modes?
Because this produces an optimum
tanning results for 93% of all
Europeans.
Is it possible to alter the fixed
15-minute tanning time in the
Intelligent mode?
Yes, this time setting can be altered
between 10 and 20 minutes in the
preset mode.
Can the guide time of 15 minutes
vary in the Automatic mode?
Yes, if people are particularly light-
skinned, the guide time may be a
few minutes shorter. Depending on
the age of the lamps, the guide time
can also be longer.
Can I also calibrate the sensor on
another surface (e.g. sheet of
paper)?
No, for safety reasons it is imperative
to use the calibration surface provided
in the operating instructions. This
must always be kept clean and free
of grease.
Does the sunbed sometimes switch
off automatically before tanning
time is over?
Yes, with very light-skinned persons,
even the smallest dosage would
sometimes be too high. In such cases,
the sunbed switches off automatically
before the tanning time elapses. The
Voice Guide draws this to the user's
attention after measurement
(shortened time mode) and before
tanning time elapses.
