~ COMPULSIONS ~

Compulsive disorders impose a destructive influence on family or intimate relationships. For example, consider the damage instigated by any of the following sexual compulsions: cyber sex, extramarital affairs, compulsive masturbation, exhibitionism, voyeurism. The partner propagating sexually compulsive behavior sufferswhile still perceiving a need to hold inappropriate urges secret. Compulsive patients experience shame and despair, which drains self esteem. A compulsive patients friends and loved ones simultaneously suffer. Within partner relationships, intimacy is lost and hurtful emotions emerge (jealousy, suspiciousness, humiliation), imposing threat to relationship continuance. Doctors and polygraph examiners at Neuroscience Consults are trained to counsel within and across an extended group of patients plus friend / family participantsas this optimizes treatment! Treatment recommendations will differ significantly since each compulsive client is unique. The doctor in charge of designing a distinct patients treatment weighs cost relative to patient benefit before recommending: (i) psychologist intervention sessions, (ii) social worker consults, (iii) intermittent polygraphs, or (iv) pastoral visits. Two alternate compulsions warrant mention; these are eating disorders and self- injury. The Neuroscience Consults team offers progressive therapy options to anorexic, bulimic or self injurious patients. Periodic polygraph testing is suggested, and patients with these compulsive disorders are encouraged to schedule frequent individual and family counseling sessions. Individual therapy is essential, to accord with the tenet that nobody knows you better than yourself. Honesty to self is mandatorywhich makes clear the rationale for polygraph tests.

~ OBSESSIONS ~
The therapists, counselors, and doctors from Neuroscience Consults guide patients through practices to ameliorate psychiatric obsession. In contemporary society, two obsession states are prevalent and have frequently damaged relationships. The first noteworthy obsession plays out as a person engages videogamesfor up to 16 hours a day! Alternatively, an obsessed client may incessantly view pornography. An obsessed clients choice to pursue gaming or porn over ALL other activity is pathological. At Neuroscience Consults, we implement an individually designed treatment plan, to remit pathologic behavior. Although prescription drug options shall not be excluded, behavior modification therapy is typically embraced first.
