Indian edible oil industry The Indian vegetable oil economy is the worlds fourth largest after the US, China and Brazil, harvesting about 25 million tons of oilseeds against the world. Since 1995, Indian share in world production of oilseeds has been around 10 per cent. Although, India is a major producer of oilseeds, per capita oil consumption in India is only 10.6 kg/annum which is low compared to 12.5 kg/annum in China, 20.8 kg/annum in Japan, 21.3 kg/annum in Brazil and 48.0 kg/annum in USA. Vegetable oil consumption has increased following a rise in household incomes And consumer demand. India imports half of its edible oil requirement, making it the worlds third-largest importer of edible oil. The country buys soya oil from Argentina & Brazil and palm oil from Malaysia & Indonesia. Currently, India accounts for 11.2 per cent of vegetable oil import and 9.3 per cent of edible oil consumption.

Types of Oils commonly in use in India India has a wide range of oilseeds crops grown in its different agro climatic zones. Groundnut, mustard/rapeseed, sesame, safflower, linseed, Niger seed / castor seed are the major traditionally cultivated oilseeds. Soya bean and sunflower have also assumed importance in recent years. Groundnut, soya bean and mustard together contribute about 85 per cent of the countrys oilseeds production. Coconut is most important amongst the plantation crops. Efforts are being made to grow oil palm in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu in addition to Kerala and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Among the nonconventional oils, rice bran oil and cottonseed oil are the most important. In addition, oilseeds of tree and forest origin, which grow mostly in tribal inhabited areas, are also a significant source of oils. Until 2002, the olive oil sector in India was predominantly unorganised. The olive oil industry in India is small and largely people use it more for cosmetic purposes than for cooking. Today Indians are moving to better cooking mediums like Olive oil for health and wellness reasons. Olive Oil has always been placed somewhere between food and medicine and the biggest challenge is to educate Indian consumers on the benefits of olive oil as a cooking medium. Today, the domestic olive oil consumption is seen rising 25% annually.

N K PROTEINS LTD (NKPL) was originally incorporated on 27.03.92 in the name of Maruti Proteins Ltd. The name of the company was changed to N K Proteins Ltd w.e.f 19-021993 which is an existing profit making Company, promoted by Shri Nimish K Patel & Shri Nilesh K Patel. Indias first edible oil company to get accreditation of Food Safety Quality Management Certification of ISO 22000:5000. NKPL is currently engaged in the business of Refining edible oils viz, Cotton Seed Oil, Palmoilen, Sunflower Oil, Groundnut Oil and Vegetable Oils including seed processing and solvent extraction and trading in edible / non edible oils. The promoters started this business in 1992 and have come a long way in establishing the fortune of the N K Group in the past 18 years. The promoters are successfully running the existing business which has a capacity of 450 M.T per day of refining.

Over the years we have invested all our efforts, time and the grey matter to get best possible edible oils that help in: Provide good amount of Unsaturated Fat Balancing fat metabolism in human body Lowering oil absorption during digestion process Enhancing skin and hair growth as oils are fortified with Vitamin E and other amino acids Lowering Blood Pressure Maintaining BMR and taking it to a better levels Along with high profile R&D team we also have adopted latest technology to support their Research Activity. We also have developed a world class state of art manufacturing facility, equipped with latest technology and is fully automated at each oil manufacturing process. We have extended our innovation and research endeavours from products to packaging. Our latest packaging innovation is now in the air, known as "No Chhalak" package that prevents gurgling and facilitates smooth flow of oils, reducing spoilage. Talking more about this latest member of our "innovation family" below are a few key features: It has ergonomically designed neck for smooth oil flow and special thumb-figure support for easy tilting and a firm grip while tilting It has empty space to handle excess air pressure while pouring This unique pack prevents even "single drop spoilage" of edible oil
