AFRICA INLAND MISSION

I N T E R N AT I O N A L

- ANNUAL PRAYER GUIDE 2013 CHRIST-CENTRED CHURCHES AMONG ALL AFRICAN PEOPLES

INTERNATIONAL OFFICE (BRISTOL) - DAY 1

elcome to our Pray for Africa guide for 2013. For many years our faithful supporters and friends have been praying for our missionaries and the ministries of AIM International. Thank you! Our sincere prayer is that we will raise a younger and new generation of prayer intercessors. These Christ Followers will also pray for those who engage in ministry in Africa and have a passion for gospel outreach among its many unreached peoples. We have identified other ministries and departments of AIM International for intentional prayer. We hope this is helpful in giving you the big picture of AIMs involvement in Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands. This edition of the prayer guide contains information on our Receiving Regions and profiles of a few unreached people groups. We trust the Lord that engagement in ministry outreach among these and other least reached peoples and under-discipled peoples will reap a harvest for His Kingdom. Please pray with us for Christ-Centred Churches to be established and encouraged among all African Peoples! Pray also for our missionaries and our partner churches in Africa as they work together in achieving this goal. In addition to our prayer guide, we also publish monthly Prayer Prompts with praise and prayer items from our missionaries. This is available on request from the AIM office. AFRICA BASED ORIENTATION (ABO) ABO presently takes place in Kenya during January/February, July/August and October each year. AIM has three stages of orientation. The first begins in the home country, the second stage African Based Orientation (ABO) is held in Kenya for three weeks. The final stage is in the country of service and spans an initial year or two, as people learn language, and adapt to their new culture and start working. ABO continues to prepare missionaries for cross cultural ministry to better understand and empathize with the people of Africa. It is a great blessing to see how God continues to call and equip new people to come into service with AIM in Africa. We believe that ABO makes our people more effective more quickly, by grasping the principles taught and applying them when they arrive on assignment. We could use more South Africans reaching Africa! RIFT VALLEY ACADEMY (RVA) Kijabe, Kenya RVA exists to provide quality education in a nurturing environment for children of missionaries serving in Africa. The families these children represent serve with 80 mission organizations in over 20 African countries. PRAY FOR: Spiritual and emotional strength for staff and students Participation in reaching the unreached

For many years Libya was politically cut off from the West and closed to the Gospel. Please join us in praying for God to bless this nation with His love and presence, that His light would shine in the hearts of men, women and children in this land, and that they would have opportunity to hear the Good News. HIV/AIDS
John Chaplin Aids Consultant There are indications that new infection rates among youth in many African countries is declining with abstinence and faithfulness as being two of the key reasons. Pray that the Churches will have effective programmes to teach this, especially to youth. The much wider use of antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) has resulted in significant drop in AIDS deaths but much more could be done if people were tested earlier and more infected expectant mothers were put on ARVs to reduce transmission to the baby.

SHORT TERM
Janice (UK) Short Term Program Director Our short-term personnel in all the regions can be effective in making disciples within placements that are an integral part of regional and unit strategy goals. Short-termers are a resource to contribute towards our vision of Christ-Centred Churches among all African Peoples. Pray that South Africans will make themselves available for short term assignments in Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands.

LANGUAGE ACQUISITION CONSULTANT

Carla Arensen Language Acquisition Consultant If your goal is to learn a language, youll probably fail.Thats what the language acquisition experts say. And yet, in AIM we encourage all members to learn a local language up to at least a basic conversation level, even if their ministry is in a language such as English, French or Portuguese. But if we also believe that the goal shouldnt be to learn language, then we have to ask what is the goal? As disciple-makers, we encourage our members to keep as their priority, to know and love people. And in order to know and love people amongst whom our members have come to live and work, we encourage them to honour and respect them by learning their language. This involves putting themselves in a posture of a learner, not someone with all of the answers. Top Row L-R: Tim Pienaar (Chairperson), Don Glass, Abie Joseph Bottom Row L-R: Ferdi Dyers, Joyce Scott, Cathy Masters, Ryk van Velden PRAY FOR: The work of the South Africa Mobilizing Council in terms of the implementation of AIMs purpose and mission, primarily through the procurement of prayer, personnel and resources The renewing and revitalizing of relationships with supporting churches Pray Matthew 9:37-38 The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.
