JOINT COMMITTEE:
Public Counsel Oversight
November 2,2011 Honorable Rick Scott Office of the Governor The Capitol, PL05 Tallahassee, FL 32399-000 Dear Governor Scott: The purpose of this coffespondence is to recommend Mr. Ryan Christopher Rodems for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Court vacancy created by the retirement of Circuit Judge Wayne Timmerman.
I have personally known Mr. Rodems for several years. During my tenure as a Hillsborough County Commissioner, he appeared before me several times on behalf of clients. Additionally, Mr. Rodems was and is my constituent. We had the opporlunity to meet at a community forum and I have always found Mr. Rodems to be well-informed, prepared, and professional.
Many constituents Mr. Rodems represented had complex issues with land use and zontng regulations, and he consistently showed good judgment in how he approached the Board of County Commissioners and presented his clients'perspectives. It was always apparent to me that he cared a great deal about our community, and I have since learned that most of his appearances before the Board of County Commissioners on behalf of his clients were pro bono.
In addition to practicing law, Mr. Rodems has co-authored legal treatises, taught Business Law at Hillsborough Community College, and has served on several not-for-profit public service organrzatron boards. In addition, I have learned that in the past Mr. Rodems has provided legal counsel to the Board of County Commissioners for Pinellas County, and the Pinellas County School Board. His broad experiences representing individuals, corporations, small business owners and government bodies should prepare him well to serve as a Circuit Judge. I believe that Mr. Rodems displays respect for the law and that he is conscientious of the role of the judicial branch in our government. I am confident that he would faithfully follow the law as written and uphold the dignity of the judiciary.
