THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

WELCOME SHARING OF THE PEACE Liturgist: Let us joyously greet one another with knowledge and understanding that Jesus Christ is Lord! The peace of Christ be with you. All: And also with you. (Share the sign of peace with each other.) INTROIT: Hallelu, Hallelu, Hallelu, Hallelujah! Hallelu, hallelu, hallelu, hallelujah; Praise ye the Lord! Hallelu, hallelu, hallelu, hallelujah; Praise ye the Lord! Praise ye the Lord! Hallelujah; Praise ye the Lord, Hallelujah, Praise ye the Lord, Hallelujah, Praise ye the Lord!

CALL TO WORSHIP Liturgist: The season of Lent sets us on a journey. People: The journey begins in the wilderness. Liturgist: We follow the way of Jesus, who faced trials, trouble, temptation, and testing. People: Like Jesus, we are not alone. The Holy Spirit is with us. Gods word is on our lips. Liturgist: Our call is to trust in God alone, and to do Gods will in all things.

ANNOUNCEMENTS and NEWS OF THE CHURCH PRAYER OF APPROACH (in unison) All: In the quiet of this moment, in the stillness of this place, draw near to us, O God, as we seek the shelter of your refuge, as we celebrate the bounty of your provision, listen to our need, Holy One. Transform this time and place into our land of milk and honey a land where you are among us, a land whereyour mighty hand and your outstretched arms protect us, a land where you alone are worthy of our worship and service. We ask this in the saving name of Jesus, our Lord. Amen. EPISTLE READING Romans 10:8b-13 *GLORIA

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen. MESSAGE FOR ALL AGES ANTHEM/SPECIAL MUSIC Shine, Jesus, Shine by Graham Kendrick

CALL TO CONFESSION Liturgist: God is faithful, leading us into freedom, but we are conditioned to the slavery of sin. Comfortable with the way things are, we lose sight of the way God intends them to be. We bring our confession before the One who is more powerful than Pharaoh in Egypt, mightier than the devil in the wilderness.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION All: O God, our refuge and fortress, forgive us when we fail to trust in you. We fall to temptation; we are swayed by false words; we speak false words of our own. We choose our ease and comfort over your demanding claims upon us and upon the world. In turning from you, we settle for less than the abundant generosity you intend. Forgive us, we pray. Do not let us be put to shame, O God. Hear us as we call to you and show us your salvation. In Christs name we pray. Amen.

WORDS OF ASSURANCE Liturgist: Scripture declares, the Lord is generous to all who call on Gods name. Friends, believe the good news: God does not turn away from us, but desires to bring us into the glorious freedom offered in Jesus Christ. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. All: Thanks be to God! * HYMN Lord Who Throughout These Forty Days #153 Pilgrim

It begins on Ash Wednesday and ends with the Easter service. The forty days do not include the Sundays. In the past, Lent was observed with very strict fasting, and the Sundays were considered mini-Easters or feast days and as such, they could not be included. In reality, the period of Lent includes forty weekdays and six Lords Days. This year, Easter comes early on March 31 st. ANNOUNCEMENTS Prayers The churches of the UCC Southwest Association are praying this week for Redeemer Lutheran Church in Shaftsbury.

Sanctuary Sound System If you have concerns about whether the microphones and/or sound system in the sanctuary is working please talk to Pastor Pat or Stu James. We have a number of things hooked up to our system and changing the dial settings changes the balance of tone and volume to the various items. All our dials are preset for hearing within the acoustics of this room and the use of our hearing devices. Please help us keep this preset balance to meet the needs of all our congregants. Thank you.
