ISDN Ordering & Switch Configuration - BRI

1. ISDN - Ordering Information (Basic Rate Service)

This document should include all the information your ISDN supplier will need to configure an ISDN service for your Tandberg Vision system. You should provide your telephone company with this information when ordering ISDN lines.

2. How many ISDN lines do you need?

Order the requisite number of ISDN Basic Rate Interface (BRI) lines to suit your equipment. Example: Vision 600 = 1 BRI Vision 800/2000/2500 = 3 BRI Vision 5000 = 4 BRI

3. What ISDN Services to request

Each line should provide a: 2B+D service S/T reference point1. Your Tandberg Vision system supports the following switch types and software for ISDN Basic Rate service (BRI): NTI DMS-100 AT&T 5ESS National ISDN-1, Protocol version 2 Custom, 5E8 and 5E9

The supported ISDN protocol types are: National ISDN-1 or AT&T 5ESS Custom ISDN

1 Telcos normaly terminate their BRI service with a U interface. An NT-1 is used to convert this to the S/T interface required by Tandbergs Vision systems. Tandberg can supply you with NT-1s.

4. Switch Type Configuration

Essentially each BRI line should be configured as follows: 2 Simultaneous Circuit Switched Data channels ( CSD) 1 Alternate Circuit Switched Voice channel (CSV)2 A more detailed description of the requisite parameters for the most commonly used switches is detailed below.

4.1. Northern Telecom DMS-100 - Switch Line Information

National ISDN -1 (NI-1) Load BCS-35 Line Code 2B1Q SPIDS TWO Directory Numbers (DN) TWO Provisioning B1 Set Circuit Switch to YES Set BEARER RESTRICTION to NOPMD MUST be set to 2 Functional Terminal Adapter Set TEI to DYNAMIC Set RING to YES Set EKTS to NO Set data option: PROVLLC CMDATA (lower layer compatibility) B2 Set Circuit Switch to YES Set BEARER RESTRICTION to NOPMD Functional Terminal Adapter Set TEI to DYNAMIC Set RING to YES Set EKTS to NO Set data option: PROVLLC CMDATA (lower layer compatibility)

2 The Alternate Circuit Switched Voice channel is only required if you want to make calls from your Vision system to regular telephones.

* Software releases prior to 5E6 (i.e., 5E5 and 5E4.2) supported only AMI line coding NI-1 was first supported in the 5E8 Software Release. Note: SPID's generally have one of the following formats 1. 01- Seven digit DN - and an optional digit (ex. 01-332-7834-1) 2. Any three digits (usually area code) - Seven digit DN - optional additional digits (ex 700-737-3290-01) Remember - this is a guideline, the telco can assign any SPIDs it wants.
