Teaching Strategies Set Induction Teacher can show students pictures of things that can be found on a beach. Real-objects can also be used. Examples of things that can be used are a beach ball, a float, and very fine sand (the types found on beaches). Teacher can ask questions like Where do you use a float? Where do you use a beach ball? Where can you find this type of sand? Steps 1. Teacher plays the lesson. Allow students to observe the things they can see on the beach. Component: Introduction 2. Students learn the name of things they see on the beach. Students learn that some things on the beach are alive and some are not. Component: Content 3. Students learn that things that are alive are called living things and, things that are not alive are called non-living things. Component: Content 4. Ask students to list 5 living things and 5 non-living things they can see in the picture in their exercise book. They may click on the things to find out the correct answer. Component: Activity 5. Students need to classify some photos given into living and non-living things. Ask a student to conduct this Activity on line. The students drag a photo of a living or nonliving thing and drop it into the correct column. Component: Evaluation 6. As an extension to the lesson, students can collect photos or pictures of living things and non-living things. They paste these photos or pictures in their scrapbook. Component: Extension Conclusion In closing, teacher asks the class to give examples of other living things and non-living things that they usually see at the seaside. Teacher reinforces that things that are alive are called living things and things that are not alive are called non-living things. Suggestions on how to use the components in this lesson: Generally, the teacher can teach the lesson according to the sequence shown in the lesson which is from the Introduction component, then proceeding to the Content, Activity / Evaluation / Enhancement or Extension components. For fast learners, the teacher can begin the lesson with the Activity / Enhancement or Extension component, whichever is more suitable.
