In xxx the dedicated PDTCH was configured as 2 in BCCH and 2 in Non BCCH.

It was observed that the non BCCH channel being allotted and a maximum of 4 time slots over the air being allocated. The data speed observed was around 225 Kbps with 4 TS and MCS9 when only one user was in the sector. When an additional call was made the TS allocated goes up to 6(Seems to be both uplink and down link included) and the data rate falls. On further analysing it was observed that the connecting speed of the dial up modem use for data transfer itself was 236.8Kbps. Verified the data transfer limitations in the HLR. It was informed that even though facility to restrict the maximum speed according to the plan is available in HLR, the 3g SIM issued for testing was having a maximum speed 1.6Mbps. On referring to EDGE and GPRS literature it was found out that one of the limitations for data speed over EGDE is the Mobile Class which gives the multi-slot capacity of the device. As the researches have proved efficient use of bandwidth is achieved when the downlink multi slot at 4 most of the commercial data devices have maximum downlink multi slot capacity of 4. The class of service of the data used for testing is 10 with multi slot capacity of 4 in downlink 2 in uplink and 5 in total. Another limitation on the air interface is the MCS and the maximum possible data rate in EDGE is with MCS9 and that is 59.2Kbps. In short the maximum data rate possible in EDGE is 4 x 59.2 = 236.8 Kbps which was the modem speed we observed and the actual data rate may be little less due to various delays and retransmission. And hence the data rate of around 220kbps seems to be optimum.

On arriving at the maximum data rate possible per user the study was extended to find the optimum configuration for multiuser environment. It was found that for a 4/4/4 configuration the maximum time slot available for DATA in the backhaul was 3x64Khz.(Huawei splits the 64 Kbps Abis time slots in to 8Kkz) .It was also understood that a 59.2Kbps channel over the air requires a 64Kbps Ts in Abis. Hence one more Abis was added at xxxx. It was observed that even though the data rate is around 180 kbps for 2 users, still the maximum possible time slots of 4 each were not allotted, even though the channels were free. ( It is learned that the Huawei system with built in TCU does not have dynamic PDCH option and all the TCH are basically dynamic PDCH) Various experiments with 4 dedicated TS on BCCH and various numbers of dedicated TS in non BCCH were made and no remarkable improvement was observed in the multi-user mode.

It is scheduled to do some experiments with OMCR parameters in the test BTS located in OMCR today.
