The red tinge to one side of Jay Zs face portrays that he has an evil side.

This works coherently with the controversial pull out quote, also in red.

The first noticeable aspect of this double page spread article is the huge letter J kicker. It is a hotspot and draws the attention of the reader to the article. It also emphasises that Jay-Z is the most exciting person in music as it livens up the page and makes it more exciting and vibrant. Also the kickers H and T kickers are used in order to guide the reader through the article so that they dont lose the order of text. Also it provides a hotspot for the reader and attracts their attention.

The colour scheme is predominantly white, black and red. The black text on a white background contrasts well which makes it easier to read. The red text makes the page look more exciting and vibrant, but at the same time keeps the page looking smart.

The fact that the pull quote is underlined/ bordered also captures the attention of the reader. Also the pull quote provides the starting point for the route of the eye.

A serif font is used which gives the text& the page more character and gives it a hip-hop vibe, which will appeal& work coherently with the genre of Jay-Z& his audience.

Also the pull quote provides the starting point for the route of the eye. This is a conventional position for the route of the eye to start as the magazine text starts here and ensures the reader correctly views the magazine.

The colour scheme is predominantly black, white and purple. The black text on a white background stands out well and catches the eye of the reader. The purple is used well to outline and draw attention to the pull quote; it also corresponds with the purple tinges in the photo of the White Lies. The photo is effective and uses a dark setting and clothing along with bright lights which creates a mysterious looking contrast and attracts the attention of the reader.

Picture bleeds over the page in order to make it seem like there is less writing& also it makes the page look more exciting.

A kicker 4 is used in order to introduce the first column of text; also it provides a hotspot for the reader and attracts their attention. This kicker also creates the route of eye for the reader, this is a conventional route of eye (top left of the page).

The colour scheme is predominantly black, white and orange. The black text on a white background stands out well on the page and makes it easy for the reader to read. Also the orange works well to brighten the page. It is used coherently in some of the main text to catch the eye of the reader and fit in with the colour of Petes pint& jumper. There is quite a lot of negative space on the right-hand page. This creates a cleaner look to the page and helps to make the heavily text filled page less clustered. I feel as though this double page spread page spread accomplishes a harmonic balance between a minimalistic& busy look. It manages to appear exciting and vibrant whilst maintaining a smart and clean appearance. I have found this analysis very useful and it has opened my eyes to another aspect of design I could include in my magazine.

In terms of the interview text; the questions are in bold, and answer in normal font. This clearly distinguishes the two types of text (Q&A) and makes it easy for the reader to read the interview. A Serif font is used which gives the article character and focuses less on the minimalistic look.

A picture of the Pete performing is displayed in order to break up the somewhat daunting chunk of text, and makes the page look more exciting.
