Hi dear Sunny Bees, I joined DQ a couple of months ago and I didnt know what to expect.

I had started quilting some time back but it was lying dormant till the last few months but now I look forward to these Bee Blocks and the challenges! It is fun to make them the blocks dont take much time and even though the colours are specified there is a great room to play within! This Bee is called the Sunny Bee and as the Sun energizes the world and all of us with its bright and happy glow and warmth so does the Rose spread happiness through all of our senses energizing us with the varied colours, perfume and its natural beauty. I thought it would be befitting the groups name! So here goes In my block of the Rose there are primarily two colours but within those two colours you have to take 7 different fabrics with gradations in colour and print. I would prefer if you choose prints over solids, preferably small prints. The fabric should be pure cotton and the cotton should be a little heavier in weight- neither flimsy like rubia nor heavy like canvas. Please do pre-wash all fabric! Having said this let us progress to the block itself. The Rose Final size 15 Some points to keep in mind : Please iron the seam towards the darker fabric after each joining.

There are 7 pages of templates (pic 1), please cut out all the 20 pieces from these templates (pic 2). The 7 template (pic 3) is a smaller version of the completed block. I have all the templates in black and white but the pieces are numbered and I have a chart of what fabric to use for which piece. If the templates have downloaded correctly and after cutting out the template pieces and laying them out in rose pattern the paper square should measure 15 . Also, if the template is correct then the vertical sides sizes on #2 piece should be 3.5 & 3-7/8

(pic 1) (pic 2) (pic 3) For the Rose flower you can choose any colour you wish [as in nature roses are found in all colours.,] but for the leaves (blocks 16 through 20) please stick only with shades of green or brown. I decided the colours I wanted to use and then put them together to visualize the completed block..(pic 4)

How to : After you have made the selection pin the paper pieces # 1 through # 20 (numbers showing on top) onto the respective fabrics you have chosen for them (on right side of the fabric) (pic 5). Please leave all around the piece (pic 6) for the seam margin and cut all 20 pieces. Now comes the fun and easy part. Follow the small template of the whole flower as your guide and start joining the pieces. Start with the center piece #1 (pic 7). 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Join piece # 1 to piece # 2, right sides together, then turn it around and iron out the seam towards the darker fabric and iron the front too. Join piece # 3 to the block of 1 & 2., then please follow the same process of ironing Join piece #4 to block at (1 & 3) and the whole process Join piece # 5 to block at (1 & 4) please ask me with a message or post if anything is not clear., and .. Join piece # 6 to block at (5, 1 & 2)please keep referring to the whole rose template

Join piece # 7 to block at (6 & 5) and . Join piece # 8 to block at (4 & 3) and iron yet again Join piece # 9 to block at (6, 2, 3, 8) and Join piece # 10 to block at (7, 5, 4, 8) and .. iron.. Join piece # 11 to block at (7, 6, 9).. Join piece # 12 to the block at (11 & 7) and iron , now do check that you are on the right track! Join piece # 13 to block at (11 & 9) Join piece # 14 to block at (10, 8, 9, 13).. # 15 at (12, 7, 10,14). # 16 at (15 & 12). # 17 at (12, 11, 13) and of course you still have to continue ironing :( # 18 at (13 & 14) # 19 at (15 & 14) # 20 at (15 & 19) Phew! All done!!

Finally! What a relief!! The Rose is complete and Thank You all for your diligence and patience. One last step before your mail it off. Iron out the final completed block, measure it to be 15 by 15 please cut out the excess to make it straight .

and stand back and admire your handiwork.
