INTRODUCTION

The website designed by us is a College website. It provides all the details and information regarding the college. The main purpose of creating this website is to facilitate the users, so that they can acquire all the required information from the website without any hindrance. This website provides information like contact details, courses provided in the college, infrastructure, various events and achievements, placements to well known and well recognized companies, minimum qualifications required and much more. All these details make it easier for the users to get information about the college and also save the time. With the help of this website, all the required information is readily available for the users to gather information that is of importance and relevance for particular users. This website also provides the details for contacting the management people via e-mails. It provides support to the students of the college as all the updates regarding any college activities are being given on the website and are easily accessible by the students without any troubles. This website has been designed in such a manner that it can be used by any user without facing problems. No complexed features are there that can make the use of website difficult for the newbie. Users can surf through the entire site without any difficulty and can access information required by them. Overall, this website makes it easier for all types of users to access the information requires as per their relevance and need, without encountering any problems and difficulties. Also it attempts to fulfill the requirements of all the users and thus satisfy the users visiting the website.

EXISTING SYSTEM

Before the website for the college was designed, all the functions were performed manually. People who wanted any information have to visit the college. All the updates of events, achievements were managed by the staff in their college records. The staff used to provide the required information to information seekers. The staff provided details about the courses offered, tenure of each course, fees structure, faculty of each course etc. All the information regarding changes in the activities of the college were to be collected from the college itself. Some of the disadvantages of the existing system are given below:

1. Time Consuming: The existing system i.e. the college may lead to time consumption
in the manner if the people or users who are seeking for information about the college have to come all the way to the college to gather various details required. If a website is not present then the users have to visit the college time and again for getting various information.

2. Costly: If people have to visit the college for every small and minor detail then it will be
very costly for them as it will involve costs like transportation that have to be incurred by the users to collect various details regarding the college and its activities.

3. Wastage of Efforts: Visiting the college for every information will lead to wastage of
efforts of people and will be tiring for the people. As a result people may not approach the college to save unnecessary wastage of efforts and to avoid hampering themselves and affecting their daily routine for accessing the details of the college.

4. Lack of complete information: There is a possibility that the users may not be able
to gather complete information about the college that they are seeking to collect. This can be due to lack of answers by the college helping staff as humans are always prone to not remembering each and every detail as they are not machines and cannot store all the details in their minds.

5. Biasness: Helping staff can be biased on the basis of caste, color, creed, religion etc. If
such biasness is present then the users may be deprived of the information that is relevant

for them and as a result of which people may not be able to take the decisions which they actually want to take and this will be having adverse consequences for the college too.

PROPOSED SYSTEM

As clear from the introduction, the proposed system here is the college website. After designing the college website the functions that were performed manually earlier are now being performed with the help of the website. Now all the details regarding the courses offered, time period of each course, fees structure etc., are now available on our website. The development of website makes it easier for both the staff as well as the users of the information, as it simplifies the work of both the parties involved and also saves time and efforts. Let us discuss some of the advantages of the proposed system: 1. Provides an instant visual presentation: Not every organization can afford television advertising, but our website provides a visualization element and is always available to anyone with Internet access. If the user has questions that can be better answered on a website than over the phone, this is a valuable asset.

2. A website can be found through search engines: Between 80-95 percent of all

website traffic usually comes from search engines. We can target visitors who are actively looking for our college, our service, or our information. This website is an extremely cost effective way to advertise to those who are already interested in what we have to offer.

3. A website is always available: No other medium for being available 24/7/365 even compares to a website. With the modest cost of developing a website and putting it online, there is nothing even close to being as cost effective. Printed materials are easily misplaced. TV and radio commercials air at preset times. A website can be visited at a time that is convenient for the visitor, and it is more engaging when designed correctly.

4. A website is interactive: Even just a few years ago, most websites were nothing more

than an electronic brochure. Their real potential was not being realized. That has now changed dramatically. Website visitors have the ability to control and interact with a well designed website. We can take a virtual tour; spin an object around to see all sides, provide direct feedback, and much more.

5. A website can target each visitor specifically: Every visitor's needs are met with an effective website design. With proper targeting, we have their attention because they are already interested. By strategically planning the website, we can customize each area to the type of website visitor who can benefit from it. It is even possible to customize web pages to individual users for added convenience.

6. A website is easily updated: Unlike printed materials, websites can be changed on a minute by minute basis if needed. The expensive production costs of video, and the editing time needed for a good advertisement, make websites even more attractive.

7. A website saves on printing and mailing costs: By making printed materials available on a website, it benefits both us and our website visitors. They have instant access so they do not have to wait for the mail to arrive, and we save on printing and mailing. The website can have even more impact because we can illustrate things such as movements and animation that printed materials alone cannot show.

8. A website improves visitor relations: Aside from the fact that when a visitor asks us for our website address, they expect us to have one, there are numerous benefits a website can offer to the visitor relations. These are only a few:

Visitors can make an informed decision. If they are deciding between us and a competitor, our website could mean the difference between who gets the business.

It also provides a way for visitors to benefit after a sale. If we provide information or support through a website that makes them happier about selecting our college, it strengthens our morale also.

By providing an opt-in mailing list, our visitors and website visitors will give us permission to contact them about special events or additional things they may be interested to know.

9. Add Value and Satisfaction: By offering convenience, a point of reference and that touch of individualized customer service in our website, we ultimately add value to the offering and the customers experience a higher level of satisfaction. Our website can add value in other ways too, by featuring tips, advice and general interest content we can entertain our customers. This will also help them remember us better.

HARDWARE & SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS;-

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS HTML:When you look at a web page in a web browser, you see, at the simplest level, words. These words usually have some style characteristics, such as different font sizes and colors. In most cases a page also displays images. Sometimes there is a form where you can enter (or search) for information, or customize the display of the page to your liking. Often a page contains animated content and content that changes while the rest of the page remains the same. Several technologies (such as CSS, JavaScript, Flash, AJAX, JSON) can be used to display the elements of a web page. However, at the very lowest level, a web page is displayed using HTML (HyperText Markup Language). Without HTML, there is no web page. This article provides an introduction to HTML. If you've ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes in your web browser, this article is the place to start learning. A brief history of HTML In the late 1980s, Tim Berners-Lee was working as a physicist at CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research). He devised a way for scientists to share documents over the internet. Prior to his invention, communication via the internet was limited to plain text, using technologies such as email, FTP (File Transfer Protocol), and Usenet-based discussion boards. The invention of HTML made use of a model of content stored on a central server that could be transferred and displayed on a local workstation via a browser. It simplified access to content and enabled the display of "rich" content (such as sophisticated text formatting and the display of images). What is HTML? HTML is a markup language. It tells the web browser how to display content. HTML separates "content" (words, images, audio, video, and so on) from "presentation" (the definition of the type of content and the instructions for how that type of content should be displayed). HTML uses a pre-defined set of elements to identify content types. Elements contain one or more "tags" that contain or express content. Tags are surrounded by angle brackets, and the "closing" tag (the one that indicates the end of the content) is prefixed by a forward slash.

Elements - the basic building blocks HTML consists of a set of elements. Elements define the semantic meaning of their content. Elements include everything between two matching element tags, including the tags themselves. For example, the "<p>" element indicates a paragraph; the "<img>" element indicates an image. See the HTML Elements page for a complete list. Some elements have very precise meaning, as in "this is an image," "this is a heading," or "this is an ordered list." Otheres are less specific, such as "this is a section on the page" or "this is part of the text." Yet others are used for technical reasons, such as "this is identifying information for the page that should not be displayed." Regardless, in one way or another all HTML elements have a semantic value. Tags HTML documents are written in plain text. They can be written in any text editor that allows content to be saved as plain text (although most HTML authors prefer to use a specialized editor that highlights syntax and shows the DOM. Tag names may be written in either upper or lower case. However, the W3C (the global consortium that maintains the HTML standard) recommends using lower case (and XHTML, the XML schema for HTML, requires lower case). Until the adoption of the HTML5 parsing rules, browsers didn't interpret invalid code in the same way and produced different results when facing invalid code. Browsers were forgiving to Web authors, but unfortunately not all in the same way, resulting in almost unpredictable results in case of invalid HTML. These days are over with the latest evolution of browsers, like Internet Explorer 10, Firefox 4, Opera 11.60, Chrome 18 or Safari 5, as they implement the now standard invalid-code-parsing rules. Invalid code results in the same DOM tree on all modern browsers.

Some elements do not contain any text content or any other elements. These are empty elements and need no closing tag. This is an example: <img src="smileyface.jpg"> Many people mark up empty elements using a trailing forward slash (which is mandatory in XHTML). <img src="smileyface.jpg" />

In HTML this slash has no technical functionality and using it is a pure stylistic choice. Attributes The start tag may contain additional information, as in the preceding example. Such information is called an attribute. Attributes usually consist of 2 parts:

An attribute name. An attribute value. A few attributes can only have one value. They are Boolean attributes and may be shortened by only specifying the attribute name or leaving the attribute value empty. Thus, the following 3 examples have the same meaning: <input required="required"> <input required=""> <input required> Attribute values that consist of a single word or number may be written as they are, but as soon as there are two or more strings of characters in the value, it must be written within quotation marks. Both single quotes (') and double quotes (") are allowed. Many developers prefer to always use quotes to make the code less ambiguous to the eye and to avoid mistakes. The following is such a mistake: 1 <p class=foo bar> (Beware, this probably does not mean what you think it means.)

In this example the value was supposed to be "foo bar" but since there were no quotes the code is interpreted as if it had been written like this: 1 <p class="foo" bar="">

Named character references Named character references (often casually called entities) are used to print characters that have a special meaning in HTML. For example, HTML interprets the less-than and greater-than symbols as tag delimiters. When you want to display a greater-than symbol in the text, you can use a named character reference. There are four common named character references one must know:

&gt; denotes the greater than sign (>) &lt; denotes the less than sign (<) &amp; denotes the ampersand (&) &quot; denotes double quote (") There are many more entities, but these four are the most important because they represent characters that have a special meaning in HTML. Doctype and comments In addition to tags, text content and entities, an HTML document must contain a doctype declaration as the first line. In modern HTML this is written like this: 1 <!DOCTYPE html>

The doctype has a long and intricate history, but for now all you need to know is that this doctype tells the browser to interpret the HTML and CSS code according toW3C standards and not try to pretend that it is Internet Explorer from the 90's. (See quirks mode.) HTML has a mechanism for embedding comments that are not displayed when the page is rendered in a browser. This is useful for explaining a section of markup, or leaving notes for other people who might work on the page, or for leaving reminders for yourself. HTML comments are enclosed in symbols as follows: 1 <!-- This is comment text -->

FUTURE SCOPE OF PROPOSED SYSTEM

Website makes it simple and easy to gather information when one is searching through the Internet he/she will find endless amounts of information, about everything, and all at the fingertips. The Internet is the largest source of knowledge in the world. All one needs is a website and a resource generous web hosting company.

(1) Online fee payment:-We are planning to add some other benefits to simplify the
work for the college staff as well as for the users. We are deciding to provide the facility of online fees payment i.e. the users can make payment via internet using their debit and credit cards, without coming all the way to the college. This will be time saving and less complexed as the work will be computerized and there are fewer chances of errors.

(2) Feedback form:-We can also add a feedback form, wherein the users can give
their feedback regarding the college and also the website. If there is any scope of improvement then it can be implemented effectively by knowing the views and thoughts of the users, taking help of ideas will also lead to creativity which in turn will also be beneficial for both the parties involved i.e. the college staff and the users.

(3) Discussion forum:- Other facilities that can be added are discussion forums
where students can also interact with their respective teachers and can discuss subject related topics amongst the students and such discussions can be very productive for the students aspiring for successful careers. It will be a good platform to exchange the views and get some relevant and important information that can boost the careers of the students.

(4) Mingle box:-A kind of mingle box can be designed which can contain details
regarding the entrance tests, previous years question papers, study materials and also some ways to prepare and appear for the examinations. This will also increase the self confidence of the students and will lead to better development of the overall personality of the students.
