My Amusing Life!
The dawn broke on the morning of Tuesday 12th February, revealing the secrets of what promised to be another beautiful, sunny day in Tobago. It was the last day of our vacation. We had visited the islands Argyle Waterfalls, trekking over narrow pathways and sharp rocks. We hiked up rolling hills to overlook the vast, blue ocean at Fort Bennet, Fort Milford and Fort George. We had walked through pathways that led to hidden coves and private beaches. And yet, I would be the one who would sprain my ankle on the very calm and serene Pigeon Point beach, playing Frisbee, just hours before our departure flight. However, the throbbing of my swollen ankle became nothing in comparison to the throbbing of my head when I realised that I could not locate my Drivers Licence, which was the only form of identification that I had travelled with. After a tedious search, we left for the Police Station in order to obtain a travel document. As I entered the car of my teacher and respected Maulana, along with his wife and family, I can safely say that I had experience no tranquillity and peace throughout my entire vacation as I did at that moment. None of the amazing views we had witnessed in the scenic isle of Tobago, not the serene beaches, not the aquamarine and turquoise waters against the white, coral sands, not the green hills and mountains, overlooking the great ocean of shimmering blue, where we awaited the sunset, day after day, could compare an iota to the soothing voice of Maulana as he recited the duas of one afflicted with a calamity. In the most tranquil of voices, he drove calmly to the Police Station, reciting these duas throughout the drive.

At the Police Station I received a travel document with much ease, and with minutes to spare for check-in, we all entered the waiting area to board our return flight home. As we were sitting there almost ready to board our flight, an Airport Security came up to us and informed us that my Drivers Licence was in their possession and he went out and returned with it. It had apparently fallen on the plane when I arrived in Tobago five days ago. I need not describe my astonishment and relief at retrieving it. Maulana looked at me and said, When a believer does his morning and evening duas, Allah protects his property and safeguards him and his family. This is the result of doing your duas. He advised me to give some charity as a form of gratitude to my Most Merciful Creator and to also pray two rakats Salatul Shukr (prayer of thanks). Subhanallah! His statement has changed my outlook on the duas to be recited on mornings and evenings. It was not that I was unaware of this fact, but the reality of the situation had an impact on me. I felt as though I had witnessed a miracle. And the tranquillity which I experienced at that moment of grief is something I shall never forget. As one of my friends later said, Trust in yuh Lord, girl! Oh! My vacation didnt just end with my return home. No! Not me! I got an extension to my holiday! I ended up at the Outpatient Clinic, had an x-ray done on my ankle and returned home all bandaged up with the doctors orders of five days rest! Just another incident from My Amusing Life!

One of the Morning Duas: Bismillahi ala nafsi wa deeni Bismillahi ala ahli wa maali wa waladi I begin with the name of Allah upon myself and my religion I begin with the name of Allah upon my family and my wealth (possessions) and my children.

Reflection!

Amidst all this drama, the sprained ankle, the lost Drivers Licence, there was still much to be thankful for. It was from the mercy of Allah that I did not discover my document as lost until the very last moment! Had I realised earlier that it was missing; I certainly would not have enjoyed my vacation as thoroughly as I did. In every situation, no matter how dark, how sad, how morbid, there is always a silver lining; there is always the Helping Hand of Allah!

Surah Al- Inshirah (94) Verse 6 Inna ma al usri yusraa Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.
